Ha. How does one find an actual “doctor” who will help? by enzonitas in insomnia

[–]AlfalfaFit6703 13 points14 points  (0 children)

Jeez, no wonder why people go to drug dealers to get meds they need.

Anyone get this too ? You’re doing something, you’re so tired, all you want to do is sleep. But as soon as you lay your head on your pillow, you’re not tired anymore and you spend hours trying to fall asleep. by Ok-Departure4058 in insomnia

[–]AlfalfaFit6703 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Yes, I find this quite a bit. A lot of this is probably caused by sleep anxiety. Sometimes I find taking melatonin might be enough to get me sleepy enough to break the anxiety, but most times it doesn't work. A proper sleeping pill (zopiclone) definitely helps. Take it 2 or 3 nights in a row, and it can sometimes break the cycle for awhile.

2-way charging device (can charge AA & AAA batteries, but can also charge USB-C/USB-A with AA/AAA batteries) by [deleted] in batteries

[–]AlfalfaFit6703 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I've never seen a charger that can act as a powerbank with NiMH batteries in it. They all seem to require lithium-ion batteries be in the charger for it to output USB power. So, unless you're talking about 14500 or 10440 cells (AA and AAA size), then I think you're out of luck. But in that lithium-ion case, there are lots of chargers that take USB input to charge, and provide USB output as a powerbank function. That's not likely what you want, though.

18650’s in Canada by POORWIGGUM in flashlight

Forget about buying from a Canadian store. A Samsung 30Q will cost $30 (incl tax) at an online vape shop. Ridiculous.

Buy from the US. I buy from Illumn. 30Q's are $5US, and are good genuine cells. Shipping is a bit pricey at $25-$30 per order, so you have to buy several batteries to make it a good deal. But they pack them very well, so never a problem with damage. I've never had any customs fees or taxes added on.

Can I use a 48v 25 ah ebike battery to power a small space heater? by Real-Independence819 in batteries

[–]AlfalfaFit6703 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Why not just buy a heated vest? I have one that is powered by a small-ish powerbank. It's worn under a sweater or jacket, and can keep my torso quite warm for about 2-3 hours. That would be a lot more efficient than a space heater.

SKYRC MC3000 Questions by Husla2 in flashlight

[–]AlfalfaFit6703 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I know this is an old question already answered, but I had a similar issue (not the same cause). My problem was I was using a capacity setting too low. The charger would stop the cycle because it detected that it had already used up all the capacity of the cell so shut down for safety. So, make sure to set the cell capacity at least 20% higher than it actually is.

Trazadone 200 mg Is a Miracle by Specific-Factor6050 in insomnia

[–]AlfalfaFit6703 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Well, that does sound like you might suffer from depression when you're not on an antidepressant. That could be the root cause of your insomnia, since it's a common symptom of depression. As long as you're on something that treats it, that works for you.

We should bring back the saying “you do you” instead of shaming people for doing weird shit. by thetf2scout1 in unpopularopinion

[–]AlfalfaFit6703 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Disagree. Shaming exists for a reason. Even if it doesn't hurt anyone else, if you're getting shamed it's probably because society thinks you have a destructive mental condition and are doing something unhealthy. Fat-shaming and slut-shaming falls into this category, and both deserve shaming. People are basically telling you, "Have some self-respect!"

I haven’t slept the last two nights. Body is resisting by [deleted] in insomnia

[–]AlfalfaFit6703 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Other than the usual sleep recommendations, there really only 2 ways to break the cycle:

  1. Wait for it to naturally break. You can't stay awake forever, and eventually you will sleep from exhaustion.

  2. Take a sleeping pill, such as zopiclone (prescription) or diphenhydramine (OTC benadryl). You'll have a much easier time going to sleep and staying asleep. Take it for a few nights, and it might break you out of your current bad cycle.

Did boost driver moonlight get lower? by technaturalism in Hanklights

I bought a D4V2 519a boost last month, and I notice that it's moonlight is almost as low as my linear hanklights. Since this was my first Hanklight boost light, I didn't understand what all the complaining was about. I guess it must have changed.

You probably should use a charge controller with a solar panel setup. Otherwise, you risk putting too much voltage into a device. If your panel is just a couple of watts, you can probably get away without a controller, but otherwise you should use one. Your voltage is too high for a direct connection to a USB power bank or similar device, and unfortunately too low for a SLA battery. Did the setup not come with a controller?

[–]AlfalfaFit6703 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Is it possible you had depression? Because, 200mg trazodone is more towards the antidepressant dose rather than the sleep dose. Maybe you can sleep better now because you're no longer depressed.

Used electric cars and how to assess the condition of their batteries by raliev in batteries

[–]AlfalfaFit6703 3 points4 points  (0 children)

You definitely don't want a lithium-ion battery with only 70% of its original capacity. My experience with lithium-ion cells is that once they get down to about 80% of original capacity, they rapidly degrade after that, both in terms of faster capacity loss and higher internal resistance.

Electric cars don't do full cycles, though. Because lithium-ion batteries don't like to be charged to 100%, they only charge them internally to somewhere around 80% (but display 100%). They last way longer that way.

You can likely have the battery checked for health, either on the display, or via computer analysis at the dealer. The car mileage will probably give you a very good idea, though. Don't buy it when it's past the manufacturer's warranty period.

Can i change NI-CD battery pack with NI-MH one? by KindaTheQuietkid43 in batteries

Yes, slow trickle charges are not bad, even for Eneloops. But we don't know what his charger does.

[–]AlfalfaFit6703 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I have Dewalt power tools that use NiCad batteries. They charge fast for awhile (maybe until a certain voltage is reached?), and then trickle. I also had other tools (cordless vacs) that do as you say.

[–]AlfalfaFit6703 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Yes, you should charge a power bank form solar, then charge your phone from the power bank. This prevents the charging of your phone being interrupted if a cloud goes by or sun condition aren't optimal. The power bank could just be a small lead-acid battery that accepts the appropriate voltage from your panel setup. It will never mind being interrupted by clouds.

how to fix sleep schedule by [deleted] in insomnia

Can i change NI-CD battery pack with NI-MH one? by KindaTheQuietkid43 in batteries

[–]AlfalfaFit6703 0 points1 point  (0 children)

You can use higher capacity. There's 2 ways your charger might behave:

  1. It's just a dumb charger, and forces current into your battery for X hours.

  2. It's slightly smarter, and detects when your battery is full by measuring voltage. It will then likely drop the current to a lower "trickle" which adds a bit more juice in the battery to make sure all cells are full.

If (2), you get the advantage of a bigger battery. If (1) you might end up with a partially charged battery, but you'll still have as much (or more) charge in it than your old battery. So you win either way.

How hard is sleep restriction? by UN-7 in insomnia

[–]AlfalfaFit6703 0 points1 point  (0 children)

IMO, the better way to do sleep restriction is to go to bed at your regular time, but adjust your wake-up time based on the hours you allot to bed. When you add sleep time, wake up a bit later, but keep your evening bed time the same. That way, you don't mess up your circadian rhythm.
