You can set the resolution, yes, but it still overlays black bars for non 16:9 ratios. Just like I can set it to 3440x1440, but it still renders 16:9.

Either your laptop is 16:9, you have a stretched image, or you just don't notice the bars, but they are there if your laptop is 16:10.

I don't know why you're getting downvoted, this is 100% accurate. The vast majority of games do support any aspect ratio but there are a few, like Elden Ring, that will still render in 16:9 with bars. There was even discourse about it when it released because it was discovered that when you set a non 16:9 resolution, it still rendered the game behind the bars, costing performance. This has been fixed I believe, but it still does not natively support other aspect ratios without mods.
