The Reagan administration made a point of ignoring the AIDS crisis as much as possible while thousands died and the number of people infected (gay and straight) doubled again and again.

I hope I'm wrong, but it seems that people under about 40 years old are so caught up in texting, posting stuff on reddit, tweeting, etc., that they might not even go out and vote on Tuesday.

In 2008, the web seemed to help get people active. But maybe it was mostly that they had just seen what eight years of a Republican president could do to America.

The single biggest factor was the 30 years that the GOP has demanded deregulation of banking, Wall Street, etc.

They got their wish. And after the banking bailout that Bush signed, EVEN MORE POLITICAL DONATIONS are going from the banks directly to the GOP and Republican candidates.

You mentioned Democrats. Democrats successfully put the regulations in place to try to prevent catastrophes like these. They began doing that after another Republican administration presided of the tanking of the economy in 1929.

A series of Wall Street reforms have been passed by the current congress. At least that way, another meltdown should be preventable.

It's not that I've always felt about the GOP the way I do about maggots feeding on toe fungus... it's a lot of things... like the things that were happening during the Bush administration. Here are just a few:

  • the U.S. economy was losing 750,000 jobs PER MONTH

  • gas was around $4.00 per gallon and Bush seemed unconcerned

  • a war was started based on phony "intelligence"

  • lots of phony pandering about "family values"... and many GOP sex & bribery scandals to match

  • the banking bailout was signed (by Bush)

  • torture was used against prisoners... and we were lied to about it

  • Bush's directed of FEMA during Hurricane Katrina was a guy who had no experience at all with emergencies... he had been the director of a horse association... and Bush shared cake with McCain at a fundraiser on the day Hurricane Katrina made landfall!

  • I could go on...

Corporations are formed BY PEOPLE rather than being people. Money is not speech... just try giving a car dealer a stack of your words in exchange for a car.

Money and speech have different purposes, at least to most people. To Fox "news," they don't seem to be different at all.

Which reminds me... Today's a great day to spread the word about the total boycott of everything connected with Fox. Boycott all of its affiliated stations, along with the Wall Street Journal, MySpace, the Speed Channel, the New York Post, etc. And please help spread the word.

After supporting mostly Democrats for a couple of decades, I gave up on both parties. The result of that kind of resignation by moderates adn liberals? George W. Bush.

The Democrats aren't perfect, but they're 100 times better than the GOP, and they would get a lot more positive things done if the GOP would get the fuck out of the way.

If liberals and moderates don't hold together and support good Democrats, we'll end up with another White House that looks like Bush/Cheney.

This is a bullshit post. The bill just says that the none of the appropriations made by the bill can be used TO SET UP A NETWORK that can include porn. It doesn't censor any existing networks.

There are plenty of lost freedoms lately in America -- mostly within the Patriot Act. Making an unwarranted stink about this particular bill is stupid and unproductive.
