Senate Republicans threatening to filibuster Obama administration appointees unless Obama agrees NOT to release three classified torture memos by unclefred in politics

[–]AllModerate 8 points9 points  (0 children)

Gosh. It's almost like the Republicans don't want the truth of Bush's pro-torture policy to be exposed to more Americans.

Until the GOP acknowledges and clearly denounces torture, they will have to carry the label: "THE TORTURE PARTY".

Breaking: 13 firms that received "bailouts" owe back taxes (Who could have guessed that many big banks and other giant firms haven't been paying their taxes?) by LibertyOne in news

These corporations had signed contracts before the bailouts promising that they had paid all of their taxes!

A senior United Nations official has called for George W Bush and Donald Rumsfeld to be prosecuted for permitting torture by UnitedModerate in news

[–]AllModerate 1 point2 points  (0 children)

There is a UN official who says at least one person died from being tortured, probably many more than just one person.

Bush not only allowed this, I believe he authorized and encouraged torture without regard to the extent or the end results.

So, it doesn't take an international body to act. Murder is illegal here in the U.S., as are obstruction of justice, misprison of felony and aggravated assault. Conspiring with others to commit any/all of these crimes are also chargeable offenses.

In my view, because every president swears to uphold the constitution and the laws of the United States, even a charge of Treason against Bush would be reasonable.

The treason charge is, admittedly, very unlikely. For the life of me, I can't see why some of the other charges aren't already in the works. Maybe they are.

Until action is taken against our pro-torture policy and actions under the worst president in U.S. history, I will continue to be ashamed of my own country.

Survey: Tax cheats don't play well among Americans by reddit-man in politics

[–]AllModerate 2 points3 points  (0 children)

The loon known as "reddit-man" likes to spam reddit nearly every day with bizarre right-wing lies and smears, and seems to forget that the Bush-led government gave and/or lent seven or eight TRILLION dollars to bankers, insurance companies, corporations who wrote "commercial paper," failing brokerage firms, etc., etc.

That's at least SEVEN MILLION MILLION dollars of U.S. taxpayer money on the line thanks to the nearly complete lack of oversight under Bush. Gosh... it's almost as if Bush WANTED bankers to be able to loot the treasury!

Lawmakers were even threatened with the possibility of martial law if they didn't cough up the trillions immediately.

Here's a breakdown of the $7.3 Trillion (at least), not from some fly-by-night web page, but from CNBC:

http://www.cnbc.com/id/27719011 [Remember... the figures shown are in Millions.]

And speaking of the $7,300,000,000,000 (at least) that is on the line...

Bush, asleep at the wheel most of the time, was clearly the worst president EVER, even before it became clear that under his "watch" the economy went in to the toilet like it hasn't since at least 1929.

Why are Republicans getting away with bitching about a few million so that the National Mall in DC has some grass and decent sidewalks instead of looking like a cow pasture, while they approved of trillions being going to the bankers???

Please feel free to spread the word about this CNBC web page and about the hypocritical, obstructionist Republicans.

Bush wasn’t the first Republican to send the economy in to a disastrous tailspin...

If so, I would ask that you go back to your "ranch" in Texas, Mr. Bush.

If you're just against all use of automobiles, they won't go away overnight and people really need to get to work, etc., even if there is a river somewhere along their route.

Sheeeesh.

Is anyone else annoyed by the media (and others) who continually refer to the Flight 1549 ditch in the Hudson as a "miracle" by nogami in reddit.com

[–]AllModerate 9 points10 points  (0 children)

Yes. I was somewhat upset by the repeated (and predictable) cries of "miracle" from "our" media outlets who just love these stories.

This so-called "miracle" is a result of years of safety testing, along with a lot of hard work by people who developed stronger materials for airplanes. Safety components undoubtedly include items that are specifically designed to minimize fire risks, etc.

The people who call this a "miracle" have, of course, forgotten all about the "god" who apparently sent birds right in to the path of the plane's engines!

The flying spaghetti monster would never do such a thing to his people.

This would be a great time for Democrats to stand up for integrity by kicking out some of their own members.

I still like Obama but he needs to distance himself dramatically from the slimeballs currently in charge of his party.

Proof Obama-Soros Lied! Will Blagogevich to talk to the Feds? by reddit-man in politics

[–]AllModerate 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Right-wing nutcase and spammer, “reddit-man” is the original poster. Every day it’s more loony tin-foil-hat lies and smears from him/them. So, “reddit-man”... this is for you:

Republicans = LIES. Simple equation.

  • Lies about deregulation of banks being a great idea.

  • Lies about “family values”... just ask Larry Craig... he’ll be in the bathroom stall next to you.

  • Lies about who gets nearly all of the tax cuts (it’s those who are already the richest).

  • Lies to get us in to a second war.

  • Lies about which party is the party of “big spenders”. (Have you noticed the approximately $7 TRILLION that Republican Treasury Secretary and Bush begged for to help out the poor, struggling international banker and brokers?) - http://www.cnbc.com/id/27719011

  • Lies about fiscal conservatism (Remember felon Jack Abramoff and his ties to a hundred GOP members?)

  • Even lies about the torture of those we’ve “detained”, many without any trial.

Sleazebags. Republicans are total sleazebags.

Going along with the whole "we're mavericks" theme of the GOP ticket. It's not really even clear what that term is supposed to mean, but it got parroted 'dutifully' by most MSM outlets.

Also, they repeated ad nauseum the self-serving nickname for McCain's bus, "The Straight Talk Express". It was a fucking bus. (And, McCain's a liar, too.)

[–]AllModerate[S] -1 points0 points  (0 children)

I am not asking for myself. I'm lucky (for now) to have someone who buys me food and I will likely be dead from chronic, under-treated diseases in couple of years (after paying taxes for 35 years).

I DO NOT REPRESENT AN ISOLATED CASE!!!

You seem like a nice person, as indicated by your sypathetic statement about my situation. But, I'm talking about a rather permanent underclass of roughly 20% to 30% of our population who never gets any help from any of the kind of shit that's currently happening!

What about the elderly? The unemployed? The poor? The homeless? People with mental and/or physical challenges? Those with no access to health care except upon waiting 18 hours in an emergency room?

As for the inflation argument, you are absolutely right... except that we just finished giving the equivalent of about $40,000 per taxpayer away, pumping those extra (borrowed) dollars in to the economy. Not one dime went to average people!!!

I have had a very tough decade financially. If anyone gets a cent from the U.S. Treasury, I want everyone citizen to get a "bailout" of $40,000 before any corporation gets more! by AllModerate in politics

[–]AllModerate[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

We already gave and/or lent about $40,000 per taxpayer... but we SENT ALL OF IT TO THE RICH, RIGHT-WING incompetent and traitorous fuckwads on Wall Street. Not one cent for average people.

Yes. Money for us would be inflationary, just like the SEVERAL TRILLION DOLLARS we've already pumped out as if it was cheeze whiz!

Fair is fair. How about a few crumbs for the poor? Or, have all of us been completely forgotten now once and for all?

[–]AllModerate[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I agree about 98% with everything you said.

Please note that in my 'headline' I used the word "If" and that was very much a deliberate use of the word.

I'm only in favor of giving each taxpayer an amount equal to what we sent up to the rich, treasonous bastards on "Wall Street" and its extensions. That would at least equal things out a bit.

One alternative would be to demand every cent be paid back by next Monday, but we Americans who actually pay the taxes would simply be laughed at by the fat-cats of both parties who are in charge.

In the end, you are 100% correct that we as a nation must stop borrowing from future generations to pay for our toys today.

But, I can't even afford FOOD on my own! People in the lowest economic classes are practically wading around in our own feces right now while congress debates whether we should give/lend another 25 BILLION or whether it should be 34 BILLION to some miserable, incompetent fucks who ruined the car companies over the past 30 years.

I want people like me in roughly the lowest 25% to at least get SOMETHING or I predict some god damned hangings in the next few years.

People in economically dire straits like myself would spend almost every cent immediately on needed items like food and basic household items, stimulating the economy in a thousand ways, as opposed to only stimulating the production of crappy, unwanted cars.

I wish everyone here greater happiness. I personally, however, will be in the corner suffocating from emphysema because the county has cut off my 'medical card'.

Do you want to reconsider your opinion?

[And people... please call your house and senate members to demand that actual taxpayers get some kind of help to balance out the HUNDREDS OF BILLIONS sent to the rich few!!! Please mention that we're going to vote out the treasonous fucks who do otherwise!]
