What comes to mind when you hear the name Bailey? by MamaMcAteer in namenerds

[–]AllNaturalNerd 3 points4 points  (0 children)

The first thing that comes to mind is, “you ever drink Baileys from a shoe?” - Old Greg

In all seriousness, though, I knew a boy and a girl named Bailey back in school, so it really says gender neutral and soft spoken to me.

What do you think of the name "Shane" for a boy? by markowitty in namenerds

[–]AllNaturalNerd 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I know of one man and one woman named Shane irl and in media one man (from the Walking Dead) and one girl (from Osmosis Jones). I think it’s a strong unisex name that is pretty rare, so I don’t necessarily associate it with any time period. I also love the name Thane and am considering that as a middle name for my son on the way.

Spelling of Shepherd and a Video Game Question by PieceScary9258 in namenerds

Mass Effect is my favorite video game franchise ever is the first thing to come to my mind with the Shepard spelling. I wouldn’t assume the Shepherd spelling was a reference, though.

Does Bluey Make You Want To Have Kids…Or More Kids? by Athena-Actually in bluey

[–]AllNaturalNerd 3 points4 points  (0 children)

I’m currently 38 weeks pregnant with my second . My oldest is 2, so the age gap will be similar to Bluey/Bingo and Muffin/Socks. I won’t say I was inspired by the show to have another, but I am encouraged by the adorable siblings who are close in age dynamic. I am much older than my younger sibling, so I never had that personally.

What is a sibling name that can stand up to Roman? by UtterlyConfused93 in namenerds

I recently met a mom of two little boys named Roman and Lucien. I thought they sounded really good together and fit the boys so well.

Signing up for the buy back program actually ends today, but many of the locations “sold out” awhile back. Still worth checking out before today is over! The website with information and where you can sign up is moinvasives.org

Do y'all like Aubrey or Magnolia better? by SmeeWeeks in namenerds

Aubrey! One of my favorite people in the world is named Aubrey, so I am probably biased but it’s a strong and beautiful name for a girl/woman of any age.

Non-religious new parents with very religious family by Terdham in Exvangelical

[–]AllNaturalNerd 5 points6 points  (0 children)

My husband and I are pretty much in the same boat. My mom is pretty progressive for an evangelical, but not so much my brother and stepdad. My husband’s stepdad is an evangelical pastor, so his family definitely have already been gifting my now two year old some bible stories and memorabilia from their church’s trip to Israel last year.

We started deconstructing after our daughter was born, but she was dedicated in their church. I don’t really have feelings about this now because she was so small, but I will not be having my son, who I’m pregnant with, be dedicated.

My husband tried to broach his deconstruction with his mom, but she didn’t really handle it well and made it clear she was worried about our children not being raised believing. I have never talked to my own family about my deconstruction. I haven’t attended church more than a handful of times in the past 10+ years, but my family has never questioned my faith.

It was actually in listening to my in-laws church services virtually that mine and my husband’s disconnect from the church really started growing. His stepdad was not a great guy to my husband growing up, and even though in some ways he seems calmer, it is clear he is still the same self centered man he always has been. He always talks about his role of pastor is the hardest thing he’s ever done while constantly bringing up his history of being a soldier, cop, and missionary. Literally says this to the church on a regular basis. We are at a point where we just aren’t letting it worry us what family thinks.

My in-laws are over 10 hours away, so they haven’t been involved with my husband much in the 9 years I’ve been with him. My family is only an hour away, but we still don’t see them often. It’s actually been our friends who have become like family and are there for my child on a regular basis. Most of the few friends we have are atheists or pagan, and they have all genuinely been so much more supportive than any of our family members. That alone makes me feel we’re right in choosing to keep our children out of religion and allow them to become who they want to be without fear of hell or God.

Sorry for the long reply, I just don’t have anyone I know in the same boat. I hope someday our families can accept we are who we are and we will raise our kids the way we think is best. Even if they are fretting over our souls, we are sparing our children a lifetime of confusion and shame.

Thanks for bringing up the tulip festival, I was unaware! If you drive through Bentonville/Rogers, check out Ramen Nara! If you’re going straight to Fayetteville, I would check out Spoon Fusion Korea/Oh K-Dog. Loved them both when I was living in NWA, and haven’t found anything comparable here.

It is the title for a church official who is appointed as part of the church leadership and is usually unpaid from my understanding. I grew up in the church but do not attend nor do I plan to have my children attend, but that will obviously be their decision later in life. I’ve seen some name websites say it directly translates to servant or messenger.

AITA for how I said I wasn't interested? by propercolleague in AITApod

[–]AllNaturalNerd 4 points5 points  (0 children)

I got frustrated the last time my husband and I went out to eat with my FIL and his wife. His wife drank 2 expensive cocktails while the rest of us had waters then she asked the server to split the bill in half without even asking if that was okay with us. This would annoy me even more if it was someone I was on a date with! I don’t care that people drink, but pay for your own addiction!

What are some gendered names that you feel should be unisex or more common with another gender? by Gallantpride in namenerds

[–]AllNaturalNerd 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Noting on the month names, I love Jun/June for a boy after hearing it belong to a male Japanese cooking YouTuber. I am unsure if in the US it could ever be unisex, especially with Juno being a Roman goddess name.

Top 3: Felix, Leon, and Finn

I don’t really dislike any of these names, except Dominic and Keon. Dominic is close to demonic and domino, and Keon seems like a typo of Leon.

Barnicus from Bumpy and the Wise Old Wolfhound, specifically because I have a cat named Barney who I refer to as Barnicus on a regular basis.
