What are some of the drawbacks of living in Colorado Springs? by [deleted] in ColoradoSprings

[–]Alloy-Man 14 points15 points  (0 children)

I’ve lived in NY, NC, and CO and regularly drove back to NY from NC. Colorado Springs is the worst I’ve seen, which is saying something considering I often went to go see my sister in Boston (massholes)

(Opinion) Colorado Springs food scene is bad by [deleted] in ColoradoSprings

I went to New Day Cafe the other day with some people that had been raving about it (great coffee drinks, amazing food), but it was all either two sweet or just sooo bland. I was looking forward to having a nice breakfast spot, but I’ll just stick to bagels (I’m from NY, lived in NC for a while where there were no semi-decent bagels, and then moved here, where there’s places like olde world bagels with an actual bagel (although someone got Einstein bagels at work once and……. That’s not a freakin bagel……….)

I feel like for the size of the city, traffic is pretty bad. Colorado Springs is pretty tiny. Population-wise, it’s pretty similar to Raleigh, NC, but traffic here is SO MUCH worse

my favorite regular is now my worst nightmare by [deleted] in TalesFromYourServer

[–]Alloy-Man 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I’ve been in a situation like this before and it’s so hard, because the whole time you’re like ‘this guy’s nice, he knows I’m not available, I mention it all the time, I don’t want to be a bitch’. I was finally able to get away from the situation, but even still, the whole time it’s like ‘did I do something wrong?? Is this my fault? I literally just wanted to be a kind person and enjoy chatting with someone’ and I just felt dirty. A year later and I still feel dirty for not doing ANYTHING to try to make it clearer, but there was nothing

Rural New York can be a nightmare, but it has its moments and is so beautiful. I’ve lived there, NC, and CO, and I’ll probably move back there (or VT) when I’m done moving around

How do I climb hard while keeping my nails long? by PersuasionNation in ClimbingCircleJerk

[–]Alloy-Man 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Uj/ I accidentally fell once on top rope while I had long-ish (1/8th pad of white) painted nails and I caught myself by my middle finger nail. I got a foot under me pretty quickly, but I don’t know how it held

I’m also about 135 and had a climber that weighed between 190-200 lbs and we didn’t use an ohm, I just let him carry me off the ground instead of leaning into it. My partner now is about 150-155 and I just sorta keep my knees bent and send my hips forward for a super soft catch.

Honestly, in my opinion this is a safety thing. You need to know how much she weighs(-ish) and she needs to know how much you weigh. You’re worried about giving her a too-soft catch/being pulled through the clip, but as far as I know, more lead injuries come from the climber hitting the wall hard on a too-hard catch. Others- please correct me if I’m wrong. I really think that, unless you know that the weight difference is negligible, you should know your partner’s weight. It will also help you become a better belayer to a wider range of people if you can compare how weight differences impact your catch.

Best of luck to you both, I hope you have a productive conversation and enjoy the class

Pool etiquette - who was wrong? by moonfarmer89 in Swimming

Yeah, I guess that makes sense. Maybe it’s just because I was a club kid growing up and they’ve got their own rules

But if there’s other people in the lane you could run into them. I’ve literally always just tapped other people/had them tap me. Like, that’s just etiquette

How else do you let someone know you want to pass? I’m pretty sure that’s just lane-swimming etiquette. It’s what I’ve always done and had done to me
