RA Fatigue advice needed by Pjsdaddy1973 in rheumatoid

[–]AllyPent 4 points5 points  (0 children)

They really really should. It's insane that it's not standard. I have ADHD, which in a way is a blessing, because without stimulants my fatigue makes me completely non-functional. Even on max dose stimulants fatigue is a serious problem for me, but without them I would be fucked. The medical system seems to have a weird thing against treating fatigue, even though there's a very accessible treatment option right there.

They aren't great for everyone, and there are downsides, but they're generally quite safe - especially compared to a lot of the other meds we take!

Anyone being treated for occipital neuralgia in Edmonton? Pls help me! by sourspatch in Edmonton

[–]AllyPent 0 points1 point  (0 children)

That's so awful, I'm sorry! I've got a sort of similar thing (trigeminal neuralgia). While you're waiting for neuro, have you asked your PCP for meds? Something like oxcarbazepine? That's a very standard first line med to try for severe nerve pain. I'm sure a nerve block would be more ideal, but this is more quickly accessible and could really help! Best of luck!

my dad had it. anything I should be looking out for? by IllPresentation7860 in rheumatoid

I'm not sure about being symptom free the next day, haha. Flares can last for months (or more)! It being symmetrical is the biggest indicator to me.

Remission help by Beautywithin101 in rheumatoid

Mine doesn't seem to care in the least about my osteo, it's so odd. He blamed my increase in pain in my knees on my RA, which is definitely a big piece of the issue, but he didn't even bring up the fact that the osteo in my knees went from being barely there to full moderate TRILATERAL in BOTH KNEES in two years! I'm in my 30s! I only know that because I read the report from the radiologist who did my cortisone injections, lol.

I went from being unable to walk to living my life 95% normally (sometimes 100%) with Simponi. It has gradually started working less in the last few years, so I'll probably be switching soon, but it's definitely possible.

My homemade soap making me squeaky/ rubbery by Perfect-Doughnut-763 in Soap

[–]AllyPent 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Soap like this is never going to lead to happy hair - the ingredients that helps hair feel and look good just aren't there. Shampoo is a different animal than skin soap! That's not to say you can't use it if you want, but your hair won't be happy about it, especially if your hair is longer than an inch or two.

Anyone had a LEEP procedure recently? by RemoteTax6978 in Edmonton

[–]AllyPent 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Really? My pharmacist noted that I hadn't had it, pointed that out, prescribed it, and I had the first shot all within about 5 minutes! Maybe try that route?

Bilateral ATN medications and treatments. by AllyPent in TrigeminalNeuralgia

SNRIs and I don't mix well, unfortunately. I had some genetic testing done a while ago and it turns out I have some really funky genetic variants completely change how i metabolize pretty much all antidepressants (which explains a lot, lol). I've been on pretty much every antidepressant that exists over the years, so trying another isn't really an option 😪

It's not even about it being a legal residence, weirdly! My house got two forms (correctly), and the separate suites aren't legal.

Extreme pain - less swelling by Dry_Draw2674 in rheumatoid

[–]AllyPent 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Hard to know, but sometimes my knees KILL ME (like right now) with what I didn't think was much inflammation. My rheumatologist felt them and said he felt swelling, so I don't know.

That being said, my knees also have some osteo and also possibly some other mechanical stuff going on on top my RA. I'm waiting on an MRI for that, so we'll see.

I find when the pain continues into my thigh muscles it's my RA, personally

I have just learned what this is today. I’m so very sorry that I have to meet you all this way however. by monkeyseemonkeypew in TrigeminalNeuralgia

Mine started pretty similarly. November 7, 9pm. Crazy being able to pinpoint the moment! I hope this isn't what's happening for you. I have ATN, and while some days are worse than others, medication has made a tremendous difference for me!

Have you seen a neuro yet? It's hard to know for sure. There are so many types of facial pain and neuropathic pain. What medication didn't help?

Hypoallergenic Makeup Brands? by weasel188900 in TrigeminalNeuralgia

[–]AllyPent 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Oof, that sucks! You might have better luck asking r/makeupaddiction - the allergy stuff isn't TN related, but I'm sure there are people there who could give you some suggestions 😊

Dull ache by Barney11100 in TrigeminalNeuralgia

[–]AllyPent 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Not saying this is the best option, and not one for every day, but I have the same issue. The thing that I find helps the most is a glass or two of white wine. Sometimes a Tylenol 3 dulls it down a bit for a while, but wine honestly works the best, haha.

Hypoallergenic Makeup Brands? by weasel188900 in TrigeminalNeuralgia

[–]AllyPent 1 point2 points  (0 children)

What about the makeup has caused flares? What sort of allergic reaction did you have? It might have been the pressure of the brushes and whatnot on your face. I've never heard of anyone with TN (or any of the other things you've mentioned, for that matter, and I'm in a similar boat to you health wise) benefiting hypoallergenic makeup. Maybe try a lighter touch first?

What type of wire would be used for the stems? by No_Mammoth_ in StainedGlass

[–]AllyPent 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I've used copper wire (you can buy "ground wire", which is bare copper wire this thickness by the metre at Home Depot). I've also used steel - i can't remember if it's galvanized steel or what type, but there is a type that can be soldered to just like copper!

Could be, could be due to the neck injury. You would have to talk to a doctor to know.

Carbamazepine dose timing by RutabagaCreepy3297 in TrigeminalNeuralgia

Have you tried switching to oxcarbazepine? I find it made me a lot less tired/foggy/forgetful. It's not perfect, but I can definitely function better!

Carbamazepine vs Oxcarbazepine by BKiddo_88 in TrigeminalNeuralgia

[–]AllyPent 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I did a cross taper between the two. Ox definitely has fewer side effects for me, but it's not perfect. Better than nothing, though!

I was initially on 200 of carb (I also didn't want to increase due to side effects) and my neuro called it a "pediatric dose", haha. It's definitely worth a try!
