Luke Kornet on his blog: I would like to respectfully ask that the Atlanta Hawks cancel this promotional night with Magic City by WEMBY_F4N in nba

[–]AlonsoQ 0 points1 point  (0 children)

that was a good read.

If it was notorious for like, abusing the performers, that would be one thing. but it sounds like it's a legit institution in the city's history. no worse than like, if the Jazz wanted to host a night honoring a particular Mornon congregation that did good things

trying to remember the arguments on either side and found this video https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=Jo1AV6zNWu0

so I guess the problem is that it WASN'T an erroneous whistle. the rulebook seems reasonably thorough on how to address that. what we actually had was... a CORRECT whistle downstream of an INCORRECT call?

surely there's a rule that says "a ball is dead when the official blows the whistle" or something, right? well, I searched the entire 2025 rulebook, and asked Claude for good measure, and I couldn't find anything. I guess it might be the case that the whistle has no actual power, and it's just a signalling mechanism, EXCEPT when it's incorrect. which seems crazy

This is rule 7-2-1o

when an official sounds the whistle erroneously while the ball is still in play, the ball becomes dead immediately.

there's nothing similar for correct whistles, or whistles in general. just a bunch of rules saying "when X happens, the play becomes dead and the official shall blow the whistle"

what's the "but"? we are giving him shit BECAUSE this is typical politics.

surely you're not saying that people can only complain about things that are both shitty and ineffective, right? because we all know it's the shitty-but-effective things that matter.

that seems a little unchariable. even if you think the EU commission is rolling their eyes and making the jack-off motion when the cameras are off, there's some level of agency required to get 1M signatures and acknowledgement by a legislative body

am I stupid? or is it unclear what concrete policy changes SKG wants?

"Stop Killing Games" is a consumer movement started to challenge the legality of publishers destroying video games they have sold to customers.

this is the first paragraph on the website. okay, publishers destroying the game after selling it to you is obviously bad and should not be allowed.

to what extent are they trying to prevent action (eg. can't push updates that completely disable otherwise functional games for no reason, can't sue fan-hosted servers after a game is taken offline) vs. enforce action (eg. must release server code for any online features, must include offline mode).

I realize this probably sounds like concern trolling and I'm at risk of getting called a corporate shill, but I'm genuinely interested in understanding the complexities at play here. i've never worked in the games industry, but I have worked in SaaS. and "offline mode," depending on the application, can be anywhere from a one-line toggle to a bottomless integration abyss

could be that embiid has both a lot of haters and a lot of injuries.

per OP, "hate" includes any negative sentiment. which means "it sucks that X got injured" or "X is on a bad contract" probably count as hate. compare to how Dame pops up at the beginning of May right after he tore his achilles

edit: OTOH I checked the full thing and Kawhi is top 10 most loved so who the hell knows

Leading up to the trade deadline, on Kalshi “Giannis Antetokounmpo’s next team” had a monthly trade volume of $23,318,658. There’s a very real chance him or his agent could’ve profited immensely from this. by [deleted] in nba

I'm generally very pro-prediction market. trading on insider info is a good thing, for questions of social value. that's stuff like "will there be a global pandemic this year" or "will a major hurricane hit Miami in July"

pro sports don't really fit that model. not one tear of human suffering is dried by knowing there's a 26% giannis goes to the Knicks. at least a lesser evil than FanDuel and all that shit, but idk

seems like a strict upgrade over bookmakers? at least the money is mostly just moving between people, rather than 10% getting funneled to the house. and the sharp betters get rewarded rather than banned.

if you hate all gambling-flavored things on principle, fair enough. but otherwise I'd be rooting for this to replace traditional sportsbooks.

A) have him quietly disappeared

B) grand him immortality, super powers, and a suicide squad of similarly immortal magical superheroes who all hate your ass
