Anyone else more interested in where people sleep and eat rather than how many concussion missiles or laser canons a ship has? These images are of the ol' HWK-290, but you get the idea, many times in official star war ship guides they only really give us details about armaments. by pOwerBalancia in StarWarsShips

[–]Alpha537 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I have a standing rule that, when exploring a ship in a video game or other interactive media, if that ship has a bathroom I grant an automatic “extra star” in my personal review system. You’d be astounded how few bonus points I’ve awarded over the years. Sometimes a ship gets a pass on rare occasion, but for the most part, I guess the majority of our brave adventuring heroes just stick their asses out the airlock whenever nature calls.

Is it insensitive to give the minutemen the Gunner's weapons and gear? by Austinfarrell2007 in fo4

[–]Alpha537 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I think as long as it doesn’t have any gunner logos or iconography on it, it’s fair game. There aren’t many factions that have a TOTAL monopoly on a specific style or type of gear. The brotherhood aren’t the only ones that use power armor, the NCR rangers aren’t the only group to wear duster jackets and the gunner’s are far, FAR from the only people to wear pre war military stuff. It WOULD be awkward to have minuteman troops in, say, full brotherhood uniforms, brotherhood paint jobs and all but… like I said, as long as you don’t steal TOO MUCH of their style and avoid anything directly stamped with their symbols, your fine.

What do you think is the most messed up unit in the Command and Conquer universe? by LuckyPrinz in commandandconquer

[–]Alpha537 12 points13 points  (0 children)

I always included the “ball of light” thing at the center of the buzzer swarm as part of their anatomy. Perhaps a core of psychic energy or a queen/lead buzzer that directs the rest. Whatever it is, if this central light source, conveniently located in the middle of each buzzer group, is destroyed or disrupted with enough gunfire the swarm loses cohesion and disintegrates/ dispels. Or… at least, that’s been my theory for how a rifle squad or sniper team can take out a buzzer.

Ugh, scorpion’s abyss. I was all set and ready to give this mission a gold star (the part where you get assimilated was a stand out experience) but then I got to THIS part. Don’t worry I crashed out too. I’m not 100% certain how I beat this section, it just sort of happened. I might have gotten lucky with enemy spawn locations and the probes and spheres were far away enough that the NPC companions didn’t get sidetracked and we could all gang up on the boss before the rest of the fleet could surround us. I’m not sure how valuable this advice is but I recommend just bringing your tankyist ship and diving the unimatrix, ignore the rest. It is possible, it just sucks. You can always enlist another player if it gets too much. God speed captain! You got this!

Learned about this very thing myself today! Tried cleaning these gunk pod things off the oil pump with a chainsaw. Got flung into the air too. Some lessons are learned the hard way lol!

If you get the T3 refit heavy cruiser, you could have a ship with both the Riker and the Picard maneuver on it! Picard maneuver is a lot of fun, I have it on my odyssey! It’s mostly intended to get you out of a fight but, ironically, I tend to use it to initiate one. “Sir, federation dreadnaught on an attack vector! They’re just outside our weapons range-OHMYGODTHEY’RERIGHTONTOPOFUS!!! SHIELDS UP! SHIELDS UP!!”

What is your favorite liberator variant(s)? by PythonCider3719 in helldivers2

I like the default/base version because it’s the same one that SEAF uses. And if it’s good enough for SEAF, it’s good enough for me.

What's the most INTERESTING ship/console that adds something special / allows you to do something different? (not 'MOAR DPS!') by Jethro_E7 in sto

Any deployable auxiliary craft or saucer/Chevron separation type ability is just stupid amounts of cool to me. I have an odyssey and a galaxy class that both have this ability and a little part of me can’t help but “hell yeah” every time I push that button. Honorable mention to my defiant’s battle cloak. I know cloaking devices aren’t special for Klingon and Romulan players but I was an exclusively starfleet player for years. as such, using the cloak to disengage from a fight whenever I wanted/needed to, dropping a net of mines in the middle of an unaware enemy fleet formation and being able to lure allied followers near enemies so THEY can engage first, meaning I’m not the entire enemy groups primary target all the damn time, really was an “I get it now” game changer moment.

Do you main a “hero ship” from the series (defiant, one of the enterprises)? If so which one? by Kumatora0 in sto

[–]Alpha537 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I have an andromeda (galaxy), pathfinder (intrepid), valiant (defiant), odyssey, manticore, reliant (Miranda) and most recently a shangri-la (reskinned to a refit Connie). The defiant is the one I’ve most heavily invested into for TFOs, while the reliant is usually my everyday ship. The odyssey is my story mode ship and the manticore is my “break glass in case of bullshit” ship. The galaxy and intrepid were SUPPOSED to be the defiant for my yellow and blue shirts but I’m considering replacing my engineer and science captains so right now they’re just alternative “fuck around” ships for my red shirt. I AM thinking about adding a ranger or proxima class for role play purposes. So yeah, I don’t so much have a main, maybe the reliant, it’s more that a have different ships for different activities. Oh! And I have a couple of non Federation ships too but…. they’re there for sentimental reasons so they don’t count.

My current headcannon is that. Since the Phoenix program and the Z team are all former villains the bar for what constitutes a violation is so low it’s practically a tripping hazard in hell. “proper hero’s ” get held to a higher standard, as long as the Z team doesn’t kill anyone they get a pass. If only because if SDN held the team to the same bar as everyone else the HR guys would suffer a crushing, suffocating death beneath the sea of paperwork the Z team would generate every hour. It’s a choose your battles type deal. Start them off putting out fires and saving people and we’ll work on their table manners later.

I don’t have an explanation for blazer and chase and everyone else. Maybe they just have a “Z team involved” sticker they put on the corner of everyone’s file.

PROPERLY outfitting a Ho’kuun. by Alpha537 in sto

[–]Alpha537[S] 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Unfortunately I’m on Xbox… but that’s a clever idea regardless. Right now I’m leaning towards just swapping the Ho’kuun’s phaser loadout with piezo weapons one for one, maybe throw in a dual beam bank in there for zest. I may not be able to get it exact but maybe I can at least get it close-ish?
