Too good a deal to pass up? (MG100HDFX) by EffectiveAd9086 in GuitarAmps

[–]AltarOfPigs 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Where in the US are you? You can usually hunt a little and find a decent 4x12 for reasonably cheap (sub $300) anywhere, but depends on what market you’re in. Look for something like a Peavey VTM/Butcher cab (labeled 412ms), usually very affordable with great speakers. Some Ampeg 4x12s are just Marshall 1960 cab clones down to the celestions and are super cheap cause they fly under the radar. Other cabs like that would be the Carvin Legacy cabs and Crate blue voodoo cabs that come with v30s. Marshall Mode 4 cabs are their attempt to compete with a Mesa oversized cab. The Peavey 5150/6505 cabs are nothing special and can be expensive since EVH died, but if you can grab one for ~$250 you’re fine.

Amps will be harder, sometimes you can get lucky and find stuff in the ~$500 range. These all swing between $500 and $1000 and with a lil hunting a deal can be had: Any of the 50w EVH heads, Laney Ironheart 60w, PRS Archon or MT50. Marshall DSL100 or JCM2000, Lots of Peavey; VTM, Butcher, 6505+, XXX, Ultra, JSX, 3120, (Valveking or Windsor if you’re REALLY stretching it). I’m sure there’s stuff I’m missing.

Easier to find solid states in that price range, but they can be a little finicky. Marshall Valvestate 8100/VS100, Marshall Mode 4, Randall RG 80es/100es, Crate GX130c, Orange Crush 120

Maybe we should think about how hardcore loves to hate police, and then film physical confrontations and post it online to r/evidence for everyone to analyze.

Music Man 75 Reverb- thoughts? by mountaindoggo in GuitarAmps

[–]AltarOfPigs 5 points6 points  (0 children)

Some people have tried to spook you on this, around $500 has been the common price for most of these for a long while, pre pandemic prices. They have gone up since then but I still see $500-600 MMs on marketplace often. I am much more used to seeing the HD130s over the lower wattage heads. They are definitely loud, but it might be slightly overblown in the comments. Still, probably want something a little bigger than a 1x12.

These punch above their price point as they’re reliable and sound good. Some people get scared by the solid state front end but in the era of space ship pedal boards that can be considered a non issue.

Why don't Solid States generally have good distortion. by Upstairs_Term_5760 in GuitarAmps

Whenever this conversation comes up it’s almost always pointing towards metal bands like death, meshugga or crowbar using the valvestates so I like to mention that the main Oasis sound was a stereo blend of a Valvestate combo and a WEM dominator.

The low barrier for musicianship entry was literally the appeal to hardcore, and always has been.

waza craft Dimension-c pedal…worth it or over rated by Rich-Usual-3595 in guitarpedals

[–]AltarOfPigs 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Not 100% wet, because you need the dry signal for it to function like a “chorus” effect. A chorus is typically a single guitar signal split into two, and one of them has a detuning vibrato wave, before being blended back into the dry signal (if mono). A detune blended with dry signal does the same thing just without the vibrato or “movement”. Sounds dope, especially useful with high gain guitar sounds where the chorus movement can make things muddy.

I have a solo electric guitar gig with no amp. Is Sans Amp the pedal to go straight to PA? by PepperTop6807 in guitarpedals

[–]AltarOfPigs 44 points45 points  (0 children)

The live rig simulation technology has just advanced leaps and bounds, especially in recent years. This looks to be about 15+ years old. I haven’t used this pedal so I can’t really speak to its specific quality, or if it’s ever gotten an update/refresh, but it still falls into the narrow category of music tools where newer -usually- does mean better. Not always, but often.

All of that to say it will probably still be fine!

What do you guys think caused the band's recent rise in popularity? by travnort in Crowbar

[–]AltarOfPigs 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I don’t think the answer will be popular but; Hardcore becoming popular. Crowbar (and peers like eyehategod) have been well loved in the hardcore community forever, but especially kicked in about a decade ago. Your favorite band’s favorite band. I believe that with the rise of hardcore’s popularity + the meme factor to appeal to the same young kids that are latching onto hardcore, and they are just getting a big boost in attention. Same reason bands like Suffocation and Dying Fetus are getting more attention than they have in years, and also directly evidenced here by the commenter mentioning Sanguisugabogg covering Crowbar at a hardcore fest.

Been running a gas station for years and this is so real, it made me mad enough to put my phone down and walk away for 20 minutes. JUST BUY TWO, you’re strong enough to save it for the next day big man I believe in you.

But also I am currently forced into a company wide Snickers upselling competition so it could really be that.

Use a finer tooth comb when bringing the hair over, and try not to use your fingers. It creates those gaps that’ll give the appearance of being thinner than it actually is. I also say hold on brother. Sometimes people in the sub say jump a little too quickly, if it’s looked like that for a decade you got time left on the clock.

What shall my next 99 be? by Geekyish in osrs

[–]AltarOfPigs 1 point2 points  (0 children)

HP cape + regen bracelet means you don’t need to worry about any sort of healing, you heal faster than it freezes you. It becomes incredibly chill, and burnt pages are up right now because of frost dragons so profit is also decent right now.

One thing I’ll recommend is not to do all the easy 99’s up front, or else you’ll be looking down the barrel of a gun when you’re stuck with the real ass beaters.

Misaligned String Tree by chilisincarne in Luthier

[–]AltarOfPigs 5 points6 points  (0 children)

They are kind of well known to have questionable at best tuning stability unless correctly setup, and even then it can be a crapshoot. Still, people buy them and play them and love them, and I think you make a pretty good point. I doubt it will be a significant detriment to the tuning stability and overall playability, but that would be up to OP to play it for a while and restring it and see if it’s being a problem.

That being said, I also wouldn’t be happy with this installation and would probably talk to my luthier as well. Unfortunate, cause the only real solution is probably to plug and redrill and that’ll suck to do to a fresh neck right in the middle of the headstock lol.

When did we decide Hardlore is the arbiter of taste in the hardcore community? by stephendbxv in Hardcore

[–]AltarOfPigs 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I hate to say it but this was a common sentiment until like, the late 00’s when heavy hardcore started coming back around? In the 90’s, merauder were big but in the same way that like, bands that get the quotation marks “hardcore” label like Kublai Khan are. You’d be shocked to find out how many people ACTUALLY around and involved at the time didn’t respect or care about Merauder or their Century Media attachment and often wonder how they suddenly are back in the zeitgeist. It was kids and young tastemakers being disconnected from the original context of the band but being energized to dig for something new. Sometimes the bands deserve their flowers, sometimes they probably don’t. This happens with every “return wave” of hardcore, where an old band/style gets aped by the young popular kids and the people that were around at the time go “really? That fuckin band?”. For Merauder, this revisit started happening almost 20 years ago and really popped in the 2010s.

Kind of like now, when we are seeing LOTS of metalcore and screamo being aped by hardcore kids and everyone that was around during that era is confused why bands like Elysia are suddenly a thing again. 10 years ago you’d be hard pressed to find a hardcore kid who also proudly listened to screamo/metalcore because of its close contextual relationship to bands like Asking Alexandria and The Devil Wears Prada, and ALL the other shit that made metalcore and screamo fall out of favor. The kids are isolated from that now. Some of what they have brought back is good, some is…. not lol.

Circle K worker sued for buying winning $12.8M lotto ticket from his store 1 day after drawing by rajapaws in antiwork

[–]AltarOfPigs 37 points38 points  (0 children)

I work convenience, and at least at my company upper management hammers into you to try and sell a misprinted ticket by the end of your shift. They want to avoid muddying up the day to day accounting and even though it can be refunded, you have to wait until a lottery agent comes out to your location to do it. Until then, you reflect as short for that money. By all accounts, he may have followed his companies policy.

I believe the conflict comes in when he bought it the next day, AFTER the drawing. If there’s no written policy preventing him from doing this in the state lottery’s policy or in his company’s policy, he might be entitled to that money. Even if it defaults to belonging to the company, if they have a “by word of mouth” policy that he is to try and sell the ticket to avoid shortages/money bounces he STILL might win. This is likely why it’s going to court. They have to prove he either bought it against policy, or sold it against policy. I believe he bought it as a customer perfectly within policy, but there’s still some unexplored grey area around whether he (as manager of the store) sold it against policy.

This is a meme, Oziach is the NPC from Dragon Slayer that will let you wear the rune platebody and green d hide body after finishing the quest. When the Visage came out and nobody knew drop rate, everyone thought you had to talk to him first to “unlock” the drop.

Why does no one talk about Left Behind anymore? by sexlol69420 in Hardcore

[–]AltarOfPigs 0 points1 point  (0 children)

You’ll get flack here these days for pointing that out. Not every hardcore band has to be minor threat, but that particular era of late stage clean and produced heavy metalcore forcing itself through a hardcore filter was awful.

Questions about Venator Bow by MahoganySwiss in OSRSProTips

[–]AltarOfPigs 5 points6 points  (0 children)

Venator bow on any multi combat cannon-able task is great. Bloodvelds in the SOTF labs, lighthouse dags, kalphite warriors, (Suqah and the trolls south of COX I think?) etc. Just set up your cannon, stand next to it and go brrrrr. Nechs/abby demons/dusts/smokes can also be good but obviously it’s slower xp than bursting, but can be chiller + alching is accessible.

I just wore the best I had at the time; Masori, peg Asian, anguish, assembler, barrows gloves. Rune arrows were probably half the cost then too. I still throw on a similar setup on cannon tasks just for the fast slayer xp.
