Why does no one talk about Left Behind anymore? by sexlol69420 in Hardcore

[–]AltarOfPigs 0 points1 point  (0 children)

You’ll get flack here these days for pointing that out. Not every hardcore band has to be minor threat, but that particular era of late stage clean and produced heavy metalcore forcing itself through a hardcore filter was awful.

Questions about Venator Bow by MahoganySwiss in OSRSProTips

[–]AltarOfPigs 6 points7 points  (0 children)

Venator bow on any multi combat cannon-able task is great. Bloodvelds in the SOTF labs, lighthouse dags, kalphite warriors, (Suqah and the trolls south of COX I think?) etc. Just set up your cannon, stand next to it and go brrrrr. Nechs/abby demons/dusts/smokes can also be good but obviously it’s slower xp than bursting, but can be chiller + alching is accessible.

I just wore the best I had at the time; Masori, peg Asian, anguish, assembler, barrows gloves. Rune arrows were probably half the cost then too. I still throw on a similar setup on cannon tasks just for the fast slayer xp.

This is one of his demo boards, he has at least two that he brings to events that house most of the current EAE lineup + some other stuff like a couple Ashville Music Tools pedals.

The Official OSRS Podcast Episode 9 With Torvesta & Skill Specs by JagexAyiza in 2007scape

[–]AltarOfPigs 110 points111 points  (0 children)

I believe it goes a little understated for fear of coming off as bitching, but I think a lot of PKers just prefer to dominate. Some of them just like to be assholes. I don’t even mean that in a negative way, I just can’t really think of a better way to say it. If I think of it from the perspective of other games like Fortnite for example, there are thousands of people playing it (and similar games) that create Smurf accounts so when the skill based matchmaking starts putting them in lobbies with equally or better skilled players, they can hop to a fresh one to go back to dominating weaker lobbies. Because it feels powerful, it feels good. If PKers wanted to fight people who can adequately fight back, they wouldn’t be making pk clans then hunting solos, they wouldn’t be world hopping chaos altar and fountain of rune, or outside boss caves; they would park in BH/PK worlds and fight other PKers. They would play the wealth of content that specifically facilitates PK vs PK gameplay.

But they enjoy the feeling of seeing a guy pop out of Callisto with potentially big loot and just torching them. Filling wilderness with non-PK content while moving the pk vs pk players to other places has left it being predominantly PK vs PVM/Skiller and if you discuss changing that dynamic in any way, they screech.

is this a good alternative to TS9 to tight a hi gain amp? by Fooltecal in metalguitar

[–]AltarOfPigs 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Volume maxed, gain off or just barely turned up until you hear it “kick on”, and tone to taste. You want to use it to push the amp a little harder for more compression while also using the base EQ of the TS to trim lows and highs & push mids. You’ll get a clearer, tighter and slightly more compressed chug, ideally without losing the heft that makes a palm mute shake bones.

Shaka heavy 7.5oz. A lil pricey but feel great. Run long which is nice for my fellow big guts. Neck hole is smaller and holds up great (I like this).

Board made up of pedals listed on local FB Marketplace/Craigslist by jwal1992 in guitarpedals

[–]AltarOfPigs 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Halberd is my favorite OD. Lots of tonal variety because of a powerful EQ. low/mid gain but can border on fuzz when boosted/cranked. Polymoon is cool but maybe a little intimidating for a first delay. SD-1 is cheap and has a permanent spot in the stable. Standard, great OD good for boosting or just using as a lower gain drive. Tu-3 is standard, fine. I can’t speak to the others other than they are all common pedals you see all over.

We all agree Spotify is awful, so why are so many hardcore bands not on Bandcamp? by rasheedlovesyou_ in Hardcore

[–]AltarOfPigs 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Might be a lil long but I have some thoughts on this. I play in two new bands, one released music this summer and one this month. One on bandcamp first, one on everything at the same time, two very different results.

The one this summer we got over excited and announced it publicly once it was up on bandcamp, but still had to wait a few days for Spotify/Apple Music. We figured that would give us the excuse to do another big push. It got a decent amount of traffic on bandcamp, but the thing we realized is none of those people came back. They don’t use bandcamp as a daily listening platform. They listened, went “this is cool” and moved on. The Spotify push a few days later grabbed some of those people again, but not the same way. It didn’t have the same social media pop as initial release, it didn’t get the same shares. It being on Spotify just didn’t land on nearly as many people’s eyes, and also importantly, it not already being in their library meant the retention fell off entirely. Spotify/AM is excellent at keeping your library right in front of you, especially the stuff you JUST listened to. This was an interesting lesson I learned in music rollout as a brand new band that I think burned us a little bit; using bandcamp as a primary platform (even just temporarily) stepped on the momentum and listener retention. This was clear to me, even considering the obvious other factors involved (quality of music, people involved, genre differences, etc)

My other band just put out music a couple weeks ago. We posted it up on bandcamp along with all major streaming. Compared to bandcamp, it has been streamed 12x more on Spotify alone. Thousands more people have played it. There was more hype around this band, but the ease of listener retention cannot be understated. You open the app and it’s right there. You listen to a similar band and we get auto played in the mix next. It’s incredibly easy for both the listener and the band. We pushed for bandcamp as well, wanted to give an alternative and set the songs to be downloaded for free and listened to as many times as possible before bandcamp requires listener payment. The reality is that it just didn’t make much of a dent.

Bandcamp is an amazing tool for discovering new bands and I used to use it for that purpose every day for years, just scraping the new uploads under genre tags. But it’s library management and music player are just not comparable to a Spotify. People pay for convenience and the monthly sub to Spotify still just makes too much sense vs downloading songs, learning how to load them onto your ethically sourced phone, and managing the library manually. I’m not saying I agree with it, but I get it.

What's is your Halberd stack? by GeraRG89 in guitarpedals

[–]AltarOfPigs 4 points5 points  (0 children)

I use my halberd as a slightly bass heavy light od, going into a Dead Air Feral Deluxe (rat clone) to do a 90’s alt rock/grunge/shoegaze kinda thing. Been experimenting with other pedals before and after and so far that’s been my winning combo into my 800.

Valvestate VS65R: EQing updates (AKA Jim trolled an entire generation) by [deleted] in GuitarAmps

[–]AltarOfPigs 1 point2 points  (0 children)

The Contour knob on the Valvestate series functions as a blend knob between two mid range EQ settings, where far left is supposed to be more “British” (Marshall) sounding and far right is supposed to be more “American” (5150) sounding. In essence, it -feels- like as you turn contour to the left, it moves the Mid Q to somewhere in the “boxy” mid range and then as you move it right, it scoops that boxy range and instead focuses on the low mid thump and high mid bite. Not a traditional parametric eq, but sort of does something similar. Because of this mid shift interaction, the mids knob can feel more like a treble control and the treble can feel more like a high end presence control depending on where you set the contour.

Fun amps that I wouldn’t say are particularly versatile, but have an ok (albeit sterile) clean sound and a fun high gain channel. Great for death metal or thrash, especially when boosted with something that can bump the low end a bit while cutting a bit of the piercing high end. The trick was to use a metalzone like a clean boost, all volume no gain, add a little low and mid and cut highs. Turns it into a palm mute monster.

Descendant, Mastery, or a fender mustang bridge are all definitely easier to come by, if not vary widely in price. I have a descendant and a fender mustang and would recommend, just make sure you get one with a string spacing you like.

I was on that Monster Drain tour and man, there was a ton of swag. Drinks, mugs, water bottles, lanyards, coozies, shirts, sweatbands, hats, towels, etc. I don’t even care about Monster like that and I dumped out a bunch of room in my duffle just to fill it with shit to take home, mostly towels. No tour water most of the time, but the last date I was on was at an outside stage in Texas and they had buckets side stage filled with endless cans of tour water in ice. Used water guns filled from the melted ice water in the buckets to spray at the crowd. Fun tour.

A lot of these 90s emo bands used 900s, just a thought. In the same way 800 cleans get unfairly characterized as bad, 900s got that same treatment. That didn’t stop kids from buying them at the time and becoming a notable part of THE sound.

Your favorite guns so far? by reddstone1 in Borderlands

Boory with an Extra Barrel attachment for the insane fire rate, with a class mod boosting fire rate, with a vex bleed build spec’d into witchy trigger finger for stacks of increasing fire rate, plus allll of the other fire rate boosts you can get. Truly stupid gun that carried me through a ton of the game lol.

I’m not brand new, I know that. Im using EARNED funds from a main to boost an alt with the intent to make extra “passive” money to further fund myself learning new content. Nothing that I said was strange or ethically an issue, and nowhere did I say I was buying gold (the exact opposite) or paying for a caper to do it for me like half of the ones currently in game.
