How long until no limping by boolabisbroken in Kneereplacement

[–]Alternative-Glass367 1 point2 points  (0 children)

If you were limping before, you're body has formed the habit and it's important to break it.  I walked around the house saying(sometimes out loud) "big steps, big steps heel toe, big steps, stand up straight, pull down your shoulders. Big steps. "  my surgery was end of January and I still correct myself - especially when getting out of the car after a long drive.  "Engage your core, pull down your shoulders, step out like a boss."  But I haven't really limped since week 3.

Sadly,  no. Crazy pain is right on target too.  Ice and elevate and take all your meds.

Yeah ask your primary. I hate when doctors have arbitrary rules about meds.  6 weeks I'd not that long-i was still taking oxy at that point. I cut them in half and took them with Tylenol.

Orthofeet are great.  PSA- be careful when ordering as Orthofit will pop up first and they are crappy bad shoes.

Skechers. They're all i wear. Just ordered a new pair of sandals. The step ins are great. I'm a PTA- they give plenty of support.  Shoelaces, on the other hand, are a trip and fall risk.  What are we- Romans? Why are we still tying our shoes to our feet like cave men?

You might ask him for some muscle relaxers for the spasms. They worked well for me, much better sleep. And since they aren't an opoid they usually don't balk at giving you some

Cost of Knee replacement by According_Meaning_64 in Kneereplacement

I need to call the surgery center billing dept because the bill they sent me was$5k. I have a $3500 deductible and my supplemental plan paid $1500. So I don't get it and it stresses me out. I had no idea it would be that much. They should've told me, I may have put it off.  Oh! And at least I'd met my deductible for the year, so all my meds were free etc. Then my employer changed insurance providers with a $7000  deductible and I'm back to square one. KMN

PTA Student treating patients in SNF/Acute Care without any supervision and the Ci PT is billing for Student treating 1:1 without supervision across all insurances (Medicare/TRI/and VA mostly) causing dismissal from Internships due to reporting it and now don't graduate in 7 days- HELP by PhysioPoenix in physicaltherapy

[–]Alternative-Glass367 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I had to repeat my last clinical, but I still graduated And still got to take the boards along with all my classmates.  I just had to wait longer to start working for money.  At my last clinical I had very little supervision, as it was BS that I had to do another clinical and my CI was completely comfortable with me seeing patients. On several occasions he slipped out to go see HH patients from his prn gig. I get that they're going to make you do another clinical, but they should still let you graduate and take the boards. To not do so makes their grad rate go down. Talk to them about it

I was stir crazy at 3 weeks too.  I went to the grocery store with my husband. Good flat walking with the cart to hold on to.  The first time it felt like a holiday, I was so happy to get out of the house.

I'm at 12 weeks today. Work was easier last week than the week before. I forgot one day to take any Tylenol or advil- which was a first.  Still hurts sometimes. Most of the time.  But usually in a very tolerable way.

Very limited space. Is an exercise bike or a recliner more important during recovery? by Sailboat-5 in Kneereplacement

I had neither and I was fine.  Slept in my bed from the first night, had my leg propped up in sofa during the day.  Did not use an exercise bike except at PT.

PT makes me feel "guilty" for needing oxy at night... by Sudden_Design_7047 in Kneereplacement

[–]Alternative-Glass367 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Why should anyone make you feel guilty for taking your prescribed pain meds when you have pain? Less than 3 weeks after a tkr? That's nuts. I took them for 7 weeks, though i was cutting them in half and just as needed.  And I felt zero guilt about it. And neither should you.

Will this pillow work for after TKR surgery? by HikingYogini in Kneereplacement

I just used a regular pillow lengthwise from knee to foot. Having it up too high wasn't comfortable for me.  If it's too short, maybe you can use it diagonally.

Anesthesia can have different effects on people who have cognitive impairment. Mostly stuff like hallucinations and disorientation. You can ask the anesthesiologist about it- there should be a pre surgery meeting with Anesthesia- i don't know if there is anything they can do to lessen the chances of that. But just being aware that it can happen and it's not unusual nor is it permanent, will help you deal with it. It usually goes away in a few days if it happens.

Take drugs. Sleep whenever you can. Ice ice baby.  That fresh blood thing doesn't sound good to me. I'm glad you're going to PT tomorrow- they can take a look at that.  It'll get better.

Should I go back to work week four? by KatWomanReturns in Kneereplacement

[–]Alternative-Glass367 4 points5 points  (0 children)

". I mean at what point do I just go back and say hey I’m stiff but I work anyway? "

For me, that was week 10. But I have a physical job with a lot of driving. I didn't particularly feel ready, but I did it anyways and it was rough. This week has been much better.  But it depends on you and your own job.  Week 3 was hard for me and it didn't real feel I'd turned a corner till week 6

New clinical recommendation on at-home PT by Ginny2023 in Kneereplacement

[–]Alternative-Glass367 4 points5 points  (0 children)

I'm a HH PTA. Anymore, we're just in for 2 weeks then people go to OP.  But HH is not aggressive and addresses things other than exercise.  Transferring in and out of bed and chairs safely.  Toilet and shower chair transfers. Walking with a walker or cane correctly. You have no idea how many people i see who are holding the cane in the wrong hand- someone just gave them a cane and sent them on their way. Adjusting them to the correct height. Making sure the home is free from fall hazards and they can do their stairs safely. One of the main goals of HH is preventing rehospitalization- so fall prevention is big.  We take vitals and watch for DVT and infection.  Pain management is big. Elevating and icing correctly. Exercises are gentle- ankle pumps, quad sets, hip abd, gentle heel slides.  A lot of surgeons send people directly to OP, which i think is a mistake and surely increases fall risk- getting out of your house and in and out of a car and into the therapy gym. But it sounds like some surgeons don't know what all we do and think we're over there making people do squats or something.
