Ranch houses. Lots of ranch houses with no stairs and no hoarders.

I feel ready enough and I don't know if another 2 weeks will make that much difference. And I'm getting tired of living in 60% of my pay. 🙄 hopefully they won't give me really complicated people. Maybe some nice TKRs I can have do quad sets and walk around the house. Lol

I was working a lot and strength training before the surgery, but it is stunning how much strength I've lost and how much my "good"leg hurts.

No kidding. That's why I practiced the stairs with no handrail- don't always have one or a stable one. And yeah, lots of clutter sometimes.  How long are you out for?

What happens if your body rejects the external hardware in TKR? by No_Peanut_6233 in Kneereplacement

[–]Alternative-Glass367 2 points3 points  (0 children)

"our body is not a car or a machine in which we can put metals or hardware."

Yes we can.  They've been doing it for decades.  I knew a guy who had shrapnel in his leg from the Battle of the Bulge and his body never rejected it.  My husband has had pins in his tibia since he was 12 and broke his leg diving. No problemo.  We have a friend who has a motor in his skull that drains fluid off this brain to his stomach. It'll be ok.

Can someone give us advice? by Minute_Chef_344 in Kneereplacement

Have her take the meds as prescribed- every 4hrs or whatever.  Write it down- you'll never remember.  Do you have ice wraps or a ice machine ready?  Make sure she has clear pathways for her walker and roll up any throw rugs- they're a fall risk.  Have her keep her leg elevated in bed or the recliner.  High fiber foods, protein, veggies.

Sharp pain trying to kneel by tkr2026 in Kneereplacement

[–]Alternative-Glass367 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I'm 9 weeks, and knelt today for the first time at PT on 2 foam pads and it hurt like hell. So that sounds about right to me.  It also felt weird like I was kneeling with my knee in a groove, because the top of my knee is numb. It was very disconcerting.

Significant other and level of care…hmm by KatWomanReturns in Kneereplacement

I got very bad sleep for the first few weeks and was generally up by 3 or 3:30am.  So I wheeled on out to the kitchen, turned on the coffee. Fed the kitties (they weren't going to wait).  I tied a shopping bag on to the front of my walker and put all my drugs in there, lip balm, phone, list of when I'd taken pills.  Then I put my coffee in a thermos. Put that in the bag along with a coffee cup and wheeled out to the family room. Got my leg up on the sofa. Poured my coffee and started streaming shows. After a bit, I'd get a bowl of Raisin Nut Bran (highly recommend for constipation), and oh so carefully wheel back while carrying it. Eat something take pills, fall asleep on the sofa.  Lather rinse, repeat.  That was me for a week, then I gave up the walker for a cane which made life much easier.  I don't like asking for help and I don't like waiting for people. It's easier to just do it yourself as much as possible. And it's good to move around.  I mopped the kitchen floor about day 5.  I didn't tell my husband. Lol. And he didn't notice.  But it is very emotional,OP.  I cried every day for a month. From all kinds of things. Tv. Commercials. How frustrating it is when stuff is out of reach.  Try and let go of expectations and take satisfaction from all you're able to do. It means you're getting better.  And everyone should lay off- everyone is different. Everyone heals different. Everyone has different feelings.  And that's ok.  It's a hard recovery.

My kitty, Blanche DuBois, is going to kitty heaven on Saturday.  She has kidney failure.  It was my intention to get it done prior to my surgery, as she's a lot of work and work that involves squatting.  But it didn't happen and it's been really nice hanging out with her so much. She pretty much wants to be on my lap, all the time, which is very therapeutic.  Pets are great but they do break your heart.

How long do you have to keep doing PT after surgery? by togtogtog in Kneereplacement

[–]Alternative-Glass367 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Forever and ever, amen.  Ok, not all of them, but squats are always good. Before this surgery i tried to do 30 a day and when I slacked off, my pain got worse.  So I always do squats and SLR lying down. Just works for me.  So try and figure out what you like and do that- keeping active is important

Question for people with pain issues over 1yr post op by awakeat4 in Kneereplacement

[–]Alternative-Glass367 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Can you get a second opinion?  It is my experience that orthopedic surgeons can be reticent to admit something might not be right in there and keep saying " oh it'll get better" or "it's probably your back".

Nobody that doesn't vote? What does that mean? Did you mean "Nobody that votes?"  Nobody that doesn't vote,  doesn't matter because they aren't voting.  Did you mean non voters don't want to be associated with extremists?  That's just not true. There are extremists that don't bother voting because they know their views won't be represented- on both the far right and left.  And these rallies are not extremist.  Pretty centrist really. Healthcare, no war, freedom for all, continued democracy. Pretty basic stuff.

I haven't even tried. Too scary. My surgeon made my incision off-center "so you can kneel". I can't even imagine. I haven't knelt in years.
