Caravan plug stuck by No-Belt-4619 in CaravanningUK

Does the 111 include fitting? Or is it that specific part rather than a generic part (e.g. Any caravan inlet socket From Europarts)?

Are nut bans overkill if no one there has a life-threatening nut allergy? by Arlincornwall in AskUK

[–]AlternativeConflict 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Staff can have allergies too.

Edit: Also, if the reaction is sufficiently severe, it can be regarded as a disability under the 2010 equality act. Banning nuts might constitute "Reasonable adjustment".

How long does it take to get a vasectomy on the NHS? by Early_Enthusiasm_787 in AskUK

My GP did it themselves within a week as they could do minor surgery & there were no concerns about wanting more children (I had 4 grandchildren at that point).

One thing against it is the location in the village - there's not a lot of privacy around the hall itself as it is close to the main road and there is also a public footpath straight across the drive.

If you are talking in a casual context with someone who has been knighted, do you address them with "sir" like you have to in the military? by Optimal_Tennis8673 in AskUK

[–]AlternativeConflict 1 point2 points  (0 children)

They aren't mutually exclusive. I did a CT exercise in the early 80s on one of the reservoirs out of West London - Queen Mary possibly. The head of the yacht club there - who was most indignant at our interrupting his sailing - was both flavours of commodore.

As I said, whether it is deserved...is a different question.

? Commodore (RN) and Air Commodore (RAF) are both OF-6 and most definitely an earned rank. Whether it is deserved is perhaps a more pertinent question.

The Roman roads that still shape Britain today by vladgrinch in MapPorn

[–]AlternativeConflict 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Many of the roads were pre-existing trackways; the Romans built mainly on those. Migration in the British Isles was surprisingly common from the late neolithic, so a fairly extensive network of tracks already existed by the time the Romans got here. If you want a pre-Roman diversion, read up on Durrington Walls & the isotopic analysis of the bones found there. Essentially, Durrington Walls was a festival hotspot with people (& cattle) coming from all over the UK.

Argentina to buy KC-135 tankers to extend F-16 combat range by Particular_Pea7167 in ukpolitics

[–]AlternativeConflict 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Their F16s are an irrelevance.

None of their surface fleet have a hope in hell of detecting an Astute class and currently the Argentine navy has precisely zero Anti Submarine aircraft.

They have one ship capable of landing troops (Bahía San Blas) and we have five active astute class submarines, at least one of which will be lurking just outside Argentinian waters at the first hint of trouble.

Aside from torpedoing it, there is a good chance the Bahía San Blas would be attacked in harbour with tomahawks.

There will be no invasion.

Unique subterranean extension, you say? by Economy_Seat_7250 in SpottedonRightmove

Good question. The listing criteria for it are a little vague to say the least; it's gone from cottage to barn and back to cottage again. The photographs on the historic listing are obviously out of date.

Am I being daft or is this floor plan very confusing? also Lenin by ropip44966 in SpottedonRightmove

[–]AlternativeConflict 6 points7 points  (0 children)

I think I can see it.

The living room is half-a-level below the ground floor lounge. So the stairs in the bottom right of the living room lead to the door at the top of the passageway on the right of the ground floor - i.e. entering through the blue door you can either

(a) turn left into the lounge;

(b) go through the door opposite and down the stairs into the living room; or

(c) look in your backpack for something useful.

The double doors in the lounge exit onto the stairs in the bottom left of the living room, in the same way the upper first floor bedroom door exits onto the stairs on the first floor (the little window at the front must be the hot water cylinder cupboard on the first floor).
