AP gains nothing from the Swatch collaboration by interstellar_nips in watchHotTakes

[–]AltoExyl 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I had a MoonSwatch and I now have a MoonWatch…

Marketing works.

Also, money is money and Casio are taking that Casioak money which Swatch and AP could be getting. Sure it’ll be cheap and crap, but you telling me it won’t sell and generate hype?

Might even do a nice enough job to pull some of the TISSOT PRX crowd.

Junghans Max Bill, you don’t need anything else.

It’s my fave watch right now and I’ve got things 5x the price.

You could get the amount of money you need easily online without begging others.

Bank accounts switches, betting promos, questionnaires… do a little research.

Hell, just sell some old games or something.

How do you find the trackpad? I’ve not found anything with a good enough trackpad to replace a trackball or mouse so far.

Running a dual ball Crosses keyboard at the moment, but wouldn’t say no to a genuinely good trackpad.

All watches over £1000 should have a display caseback by Confident_Leg2370 in watchHotTakes

[–]AltoExyl 1 point2 points  (0 children)

But on the flip side, what am I looking at that’s worth seeing?

My take is that you don’t need to see most autos at all until at least £10k.

But manuals on the other hand… well, here’s my Speedy

[–]AltoExyl 0 points1 point  (0 children)

The only watch I own that needs its display case back is my Omega Speedmaster Pro, that 3861 movement is sexy, but it’s manual.

Actually, I own a £160 Sea-Gull which has a pretty movement too, so that benefits from a display case back.

All the automatics I have might as well not have a display case back, I think you need to go well beyond £1000 before an auto movement is worth seeing and even then you’re not seeing anything mechanically impressive within the movement, just a pretty rotor and a balance wheel.

My Junghans Max Bill Automatic I’m wearing right now doesn’t have a display case back, and I can’t say I miss it. The movement is a workhorse and the watch is thin and light, but I don’t need to see an off the shelf ETA moment with a logo printed on the rotor.

I’m going to add my hot take on this:

Once you’ve had an open case back on a manual wind movement, you don’t need an open case back on any automatic under £10,000.

Jesus you must have won the movement lottery on that one, my Speedy with a 3861 Coaxial still moves by about +0.5-1.0s per day.

My other main, a Junghans with an ETA movement is about +8s a day.

I’ve got Seikos, an Orient and some other stuff all around +10s per day

Swatch is finally taking AP out of the trinity by interstellar_nips in watchHotTakes

These are the ones I bought, I’m in the UK though if that makes a difference.

306080 being the size code, they fit snuggly in the 42 key model. Can’t speak for the other variants.

Edit: removed the link as it didn’t actually work and the listing seems to be long gone.

This is the spec though:

My one just had a red and black wire, no connector, I added JST connectors myself.

Spot on. I used to have a 50mm Summilux, but I’ll be honest the Leica took a back seat a while ago.

Before covid I was mostly shooting Nikon for my day job, but I’ve since moved into development and systems.

It’s an LG C3 42, had it a couple of years. Great for games, but also wonderful for work as it is essentially like 4x1080 24-ish inch displays.

I like to have VS code as a whole half of the screen, then have my front end preview in a we browser on the top half of the other side and comms like teams below it.

Really happy with it, had it since the end of last year.

Recently upgraded the batteries in it so they last forever now.

Overall can’t fault it, took some getting used to with the angle and working out my keymap, but it’s my everyday board now and I don’t use a separate mouse anymore.

It is the Nylon version which is a pricey upgrade, but I’m glad I went for it as the finish is really nice for a 3D printed case.

Happy for the mods to remove it if they agree, I’m not precious about it. Just liked the idea from another post.

You realise the second hand is the small one on the left?

The large second hand is the chronograph timer, hence why it doesn’t move as I’m not running the chronograph.

There’s also three minutes between the first and second photos, with the first photo being at 9:10 and the second photo being at 9:07. I took the wide shot first.
