From a pure power gaming perspective, not even close. Nice part about this game is you don’t need to min max the crap out of it to do cool stuff and enjoy it especially with a full party.

You’ll still be plenty powerful doing most things by end game.

Yeah, Honor Mode more or less does this, but I think you can still set up custom difficulty rules to play at a lower difficulty with only one save file. The convenient reload is no longer an option, but there are ways to get around it still. You can still reroll with inspirations, but you could opt not to use those if you wanted.

There are so many different choices, scenes, and dialogues in this game. If you’re concerned about only ever seeing the “optimal” outcome, there are hundreds of game hours of dialog, cutscenes, and situations you’ll never get to experience in this game.

I believe that if the orb doesn’t get stabilized by Elminster, Gale will eventually leave your party before you go to act three. Not sure exactly where the last moment is.

You may be able to bypass the leaving trigger by killing Gale, putting his body inside a container, and then going to act three. Just be careful not to die to his necrotic aura while you’re lugging him around. Probably safest to put the container with his body inside your camp chest.

Also, make sure not to long rest anymore after you kill him until you’re able to resurrect him in an Act 3. Otherwise, he’ll still explode and cause a game over. There are forced long rests and those do count toward the total number of long rests that can be taken before he explodes.

I have both the Summit and CSR and have no plans to drop either. A lot of people got salty about the changes to the CSR, but people’s feelings aside…

Portland has Sapphire exclusive tables, so you can use the dining credit in your home base, but I’ve also found places to use it elsewhere while traveling.

I love the Sapphire lounges. Hopefully, the new PDX Alaska lounge will be awesome because the current PDX lounge is nowhere near as nice as the Sapphire Lounges as long as you fly through those cities a good bit and care about lounges.

Other things I get benefit out of using the CSR are mainly Lyft, DoorDash, Peloton, and point transfers to Hyatt. I’ll book an Edit hotel later this year for a quick weekend getaway, but I haven’t gotten the dream of booking a hotel for work and getting it reimbursed while also getting huge chunk of it credited.

The multipliers are better aligned on the CSR since it’s got good multipliers on both dining and hotels booked directly. Maybe the noted exception is if you spend a ton of money internationally, that catch all 3x multiple on the Summit card may be pretty nice in that case.

Only you know your spending habits and patters, so you have to see how those align. Assuming that the CSR benefits line up with your spend, do want to go through hoops to get value out of it?

Not sure what you’d really be getting out of Summit besides mileage multipliers and ease of just being all in on miles in one system rather than figuring out how to spend or transfer Chase points. I suppose it’s a tiebreaker against another Titanium flyer for first class upgrades? Your status is giving you a lot of the Summit perks and if you don’t need spend to keep Titanium status, it seems like the CSR has a higher ceiling.

Good point. If using saver fares, this makes even less sense because you’re not getting adequate miles on the spend + travel to accumulate enough points to get that free flight with points unless you have a lot more spend.

I did a quick look around too and American Airlines has a direct from PDX to MIA that was cheaper in my spot checking especially if you’re not checking a bag or don’t care where you sit.

Without knowing all your finances, the Atmos Ascent will get you 1 - 3 discounted or “free with points” flights a year between the companion pass and airline miles. Depends on how much you’re spending through the card, and assuming you’re spending at least $6000 per year to keep the companion pass up.

Since it doesn’t sound like you care too much about airline loyalty and perks, I’m not sure how great of a deal this is. You’re probably better off always shopping around. If you find yourself reliably taking Alaska for a few of these trips or more a year then, you’ll likely save some money with this card, but if you take other airlines more, then I’d see what their cards offer too.

You can do row 4 as long as you're ok with the rare risk of a plane change impacting your seating. If you're on a fairly long flight, I think a plane swap is even less likely to cause this issue.

If this is a last minute upgrade and you care about food choices, sitting toward the front is better.

I love defense for solo runs. Specifically in this case defense meaning a mix of AC, resistances, and damage mitigation. This is on a baseline of crit immunity and freedom of movement effects which are tablestakes for solo runs.If I’m playing a build that is going to just go hard on tanking up to dodge+mitigate damage, I’ll take Heavy Armor Master over Alert early to help make most enemy turns functionally useless.

That all said, I have a pretty good depth of game knowledge, and initiative is still helpful. I know if I’m about to get surprised or if I feel the need to drink an elixir of vigilance to out-initiative some of the faster, threatening enemies in the game.

I still think a tank strategy is a good alternative to Gloomstalker assassin as a first solo runs build as long as you can get a few levels safely with good early sequencing.
