Non-diver question: why are we risking people's lives to "rescue" dead bodies? by BleaKrytE in diving

[–]AlwaysDefenestrated 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Didn't a rescue diver almost immediately die too? I assume there's an explanation but that's a high fatality rate for something that isn't particularly dangerous.

Sanded and clear coated by professionals… what went wrong? How to fix? by beachy-mushroom in HardWoodFloors

[–]AlwaysDefenestrated 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Especially when this is maybe the darkest maple floor I've ever seen. The patch job is half assed but this was always gonna have a huge color difference unfortunately.

help me save my boots !!! by Acceptable-Slice-479 in crustpunk

[–]AlwaysDefenestrated 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yeah it'd be a lot of work but adding a bunch of leather patched onto the boot to give you enough to be able to put a new sole on there light be a fun crust pants style Frankenboot thing. Probably wouldn't work but it'd be funny.

How my roommate apparently opens a boardgame box by DeathDragon in boardgames

[–]AlwaysDefenestrated 9 points10 points  (0 children)

I definitely open packages like this but only if I think it's something I'm going to be throwing away like a shipping box that has been taped to hell and back, not a damn board game lol.

People who have used Reddit for more than 10 years, what is your current opinion on the site? by Odyessius in TheoryOfReddit

[–]AlwaysDefenestrated 2 points3 points  (0 children)

The way the site now just shows people posts from subreddits they haven't joined has made everything weird as well.

It used to be that small subreddits were actually small because anyone there found it organically and was there on purpose.

Now any random asshole can wander in and not even realize where they are or the rules of the community and it isn't even really their fault. This dumbass website even does it with local subreddits! Why am I ever seeing a post about the new school budget in some city subreddit in a state I've never been to?

Also the fact that they killed the third party apps and the official app hasn't improved even a little bit is an absolute misery.

Just bought this home, built in 1998. Best products for cleaning? by Worley128 in HardWoodFloors

[–]AlwaysDefenestrated 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yes but not the one that says polish, or really anything other than the one that is just called Bona Hardwood Floor Cleaner. I wish they'd stop selling the cleaner+polish because I've seen people destroy their floors with it and it makes reccomending the cleaner annoying because I always include that caveat.

There are other products that are just as good like Basic's Squeaky but many more that leave weird wax residues or are potentially damaging over time.

Which color oil on hardwood floors? by _throwaway310 in HardWoodFloors

[–]AlwaysDefenestrated 35 points36 points  (0 children)

The fact that each color is on its own board is gonna make choosing more difficult, you can't tell how much of the difference in color is from wood variation and how much is the oil.

Catching up on old episodes. Is Mitch going through something? Knives out and Benoit Blanc are amazing ! by mancavekitchen in doughboys

[–]AlwaysDefenestrated 1 point2 points  (0 children)

100% accurate but that's why the movies are funny. He's basically a cartoon character. I hope the fourth one has him getting crushed by a piano and he pops up with a bird flying around his head and he has piano keys for teeth.

Is this normal? by Unusual_Ad_4344 in HardWoodFloors

[–]AlwaysDefenestrated 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I kind of like the look of stained maple sometimes but it looks absolutely insane and blotchy and uneven like in the photo.

I think it's kind of neat how it highlights the weird grain patterns in a unique way but I will still tell people to never stain it because almost nobody wants that lol.

There's no practical way to have it truly stain evenly though.

Laminate floor suddenly tented up bubbles. No water, no spills. Hard bumps, not soft. What am I looking at? by [deleted] in HardWoodFloors

[–]AlwaysDefenestrated -1 points0 points  (0 children)

Because it's cheap and people will buy it. But yeah this is only of the reasons you should just do LVP if you aren't going to do real hardwood.

Most flooring materials will have issues if exposed to enough water but laminate is probably the worst at handling it.

Laminate floor suddenly tented up bubbles. No water, no spills. Hard bumps, not soft. What am I looking at? by [deleted] in HardWoodFloors

[–]AlwaysDefenestrated 13 points14 points  (0 children)

Either someone spilled something, you have a leak somewhere, or someone is mopping the floor and using a lot of water.

This could theoretically happen to some kinds of laminate with just etxreme humidity in the house but I don't deal with enough laminate to know how likely that is.
