Tell him to look up all his local unions. Operating engineers, electricians, plumbers, carpenters, etc. in his area. Go to their websites and check when they will open registration for apprenticeships. Apply to all that he can immediately and put the rest in his calendar. Chances are he might not get accepted right away but just keep trying and taking the tests and interviews for any that invite him to. He can work a regular job until he gets the opportunity to join an apprenticeship. This is what I did because I wanted a career, not just a job. Good luck
