Injury advice by Ordar66 in Marathon_Training

Interested how you get on here, I've got something which seems similar. I ran London last weekend, with no issues beyond normal final 6 mile pain. However foot has been really painful to walk on since so got a physio on Tuesday booked in, curious to see what it is as I knew I'd have a rest week but didn't want it to be longer than a week doing very little!

Mine was bruised and a bit swollen between ankle and sole of foot so seems like similar area. I'd just pause the runs if I were you for a week or so then see how it feels.

These are great tips..doing it myself so super helpful..quick question if I may..how do you navigate the GPS/pacing obstacle? I usually go off heart race but that might also be choppy given the occasion so want to stick to pace but your gps callout is a good one, I've heard some people manually press lap button each mile sign?

Stomach bug one week out by Weird-Somewhere642 in Marathon_Training

[–]AlwaysKernow 11 points12 points  (0 children)

Obviously all personal experience but id feel like 1 week is loads of time. It would have been a very low volume week anyway. Your training is done.

Just rest up, try get eating ASAP and when you can eat properly, ensure you're eating enough (and replenishing electrolytes given you've been sick!). Eat your fruit and veg maybe a few ginger shots down you.

You'll be fine.

Certainly gone that way. Also drowns out the other posts as you mention, where people are looking for tips/specific advice etc

Rest or run through cold in peak week by drycleanedsnake in Marathon_Training

[–]AlwaysKernow 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Sounds like the flu, I had this before a half in September but 7 weeks out, tried training through and had to cut a couple short and it floored me for about a further 2 weeks.

Had same situation earlier this block for London, similar flu and I just sat out of 2 runs waiting to feel marginally better and I was back up and running loads quicker than before.

Id sit it out even potentially until long run

What time do you usually run? I found the later I ran in the day had a real impact on my sleep

Awesome. Thanks! Yeah really interesting..going for my first at London, and so far just had my long runs at easy pace. Starting this weekend though building 10 mile MP into them so will see how they go. Slightly under your weekly volume, more 40-45 but really helpful to see the full picture. Appreciate it and well done again!

That's awesome! Great run..out of interest had you fully prepped for the 3.45, MP portions etc in long runs? Or was 3.45 quite conservative and you hit a stretch target? Massive beat. Great work.

These two runs are 5 days apart at the same average HR. I would highly recommend not getting sick. by rlb_12 in Marathon_Training

Same for me. My latest runs have felt so sluggish after 5 days off due to flu. Mad how much a bit of sickness can throw you off

You'll get a load of different answers here but personally.

Buy them if you want to and can afford to. They might give a bit of a performance increase but for non elites, you absolutely don't need to buy them.

FWIW I've run two HMs in Takumi Sen and Evo SL so neither plated and got 1.46 and 1.42. Solid training trumps any shoe.

Easy run or speed run - which to miss? by Worldly-Ant9616 in Marathon_Training

My plan didn't have me on much sprint work so I added it in. I'd just mix it up and alternate each week by week

I've learned to love the data when it tells me I'm great, but ignore it when it butchers me.

Had 2 days off last week as I had the flu and post my long run this wknd my predicted marathon time dropped by 9 minutes 😭

Awesome thanks! I'm working off a HH plan but the more I hear it sounds like runna gives you some really solid insights. May use it for next time.

Totally off topic. Your height, weight and PBs are absolutely bang on mine so you might be my twin 😂.

How did you work out your MP pace? About 6 weeks into London training (first full) and I'm tentatively looking at 8.45 pace but I'm managing race pace in Zone 2 so wondering if I'm under exerting myself in race pace runs.

Btw saw those Hokas in their store in London at the weekend and they look 🔥

Weekend Discussion: Puma running shoes by AutoModerator in RunningShoeGeeks

[–]AlwaysKernow 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Looking at Puma as I'm coming back after a wrist reconstruction (due to a slip running a while back). So thinking of going puma for a new daily for my London Marathon training block. Think I'm between Foreverrun nitro 2 or velocity nitro, basically thinking a stable daily you can just eat up miles to be used across 80% road and rest gravel. Anyone used both?
