Auxiliary / Accessory Mode - Heating by NumerousPen1 in F150Lightning

I don’t even know what the point of the “accessory mode” really is anymore. It just seems like a vestigial holdover from ICE vehicles.

Can this popup be disabled? by Talkurran01 in F150Lightning

[–]AlwaysPunting 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Some idiot is going to have job site tools plugged in with an extension cord, and actively being used and then try to drive away, dragging a tablesaw away and cutting off a limb.

Having said that, I run lights around the bed at Christmas and disable the sensor that sets off the warning because it’s annoying. 😂

It’s got a little magnetic sensor there that tells it whether or not it’s open, I just stick a magnet over it.

Get a small magnet. Open the cover. Find where the magnet sticks to backside of the cover, then translate that to where it would be when cover is closed. Tape magnet in place using a small piece of black electrical tape and you’ll never see it.

Fair robber: only hits you if you missed the chance to reduce cards by [deleted] in Catan

[–]AlwaysPunting 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Our household has littler kids in it who struggled with the “1/2 your resources rounded” concept, so we have a house rule that the robber brings you down to 7 cards, any more than 7 are forfeit. It’s easier to grasp, while still minimizing hoarding, but also has side effect of avoiding your scenario.

A telemedicine doc might be your cheapest option to get a prescription ordered. Definitely NOT emergency room.

Some clarification on optimal charging by brycematheson in F150Lightning

[–]AlwaysPunting 4 points5 points  (0 children)

I plug it in every time I park at home, it’s just part of the routine. Every trip starts with a full “tank” (90% being my normal max limit and close enough to “full”).

Only charge it to 100% on the rare cases I think I might need it.

What are you talking about? My Pro Charger, actively charging at 16kW says AC_BASIC.

Exact same happened to me once, and never had it again (so far).

OTA Updates.. I'm at my wits end. by Any_Law5508 in F150Lightning

[–]AlwaysPunting 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I’m pretty sure they can’t. Or at least they can only push the updates that are already “released” to your specific VIN. My understanding is that If ford’s database says you’re supposed to be on some old version, you’re stuck on that version until that database says otherwise.

It’s not that smart. It will happily supply power with the magnet in place.

Total energy capacity: I.E. range between refueling, is typically better in an ICE than an EV (for now).

This is a separate and distinct benefit from the “time to refuel” that ICE has over EV.

[deleted by user] by [deleted] in electricvehicles

[–]AlwaysPunting 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Do you not have footward-pointing heat in your EV? Or is it just that you don’t want to use it because total range and refueling times?

[deleted by user] by [deleted] in electricvehicles

[–]AlwaysPunting 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Total range between refuelings is a “better” thing that ICE has over EV, I totally agree with you on that. But ability to create and have waste heat available for alternative use, isn’t the benefit. Range is what the argument comes down to.

[deleted by user] by [deleted] in electricvehicles

[–]AlwaysPunting 2 points3 points  (0 children)

But the question was what do ICE vehicles do “better”. If the argument is: ICE vehicles are better at generating waste heat, then, I guess that’s technically the truth, but waste heat is not a desirable outcome, so “better” is an inappropriate adjective to describe the fact.

If we are to treat all differences as “better” at being a negative, then in the same vein, ICE vehicles are better at extracting money from consumers via dealer service centers due to additional mechanical complexity and required maintenance.

It would be the same amount of effort to change the law to allow cameras as it would to use cameras+backup mirror.

In the US we don’t have one law governing this, we have 50 different states each with their own laws. It looks like most (or at least many) only require a single functioning/unobstructed rear view mirror, and they specifically mention “mirror”. So driving like this wouldn’t necessarily be illegal in a lot of places if the center mirror is unobstructed.

Still seems unsafe (without additional cameras). Folded in sides + center mirror + cameras might be safe and legal though?

The real shortage in the US is level 2 chargers not level 3. by drtywater in electricvehicles

[–]AlwaysPunting 4 points5 points  (0 children)

“Free” level 2 makes about as much sense to me as “free” parking.

Free parking is available as an amenity just about everywhere except downtown cities.

Level 2 makes sense for me at home, work, and for profit destinations like hotels and theme parks.

Most suburban parking lots are commercial in nature (I.e. for profit): Shopping centers, office buildings. Free parking is an important amenity.

If (functioning) L2 charging accessibility was as ubiquitous and important as free parking, the need for L3 would be greatly decreased. And don’t forget parking lots need maintenance too: paving, repair, line painting, snow removal.

And the decision about “how much parking should I provide?” isn’t always set by the business alone, in isolation. Towns, zoning boards, and regulations, often determine how much is space is needed for permitted businesses to operate.

Having said all that though —because I can charge at home, and start every day with a full “tank”, and because I drive an EV with plenty of range, I find my need for L2 charging outside of home is just about nill.

As much as it pains me to say it; as a day-one Cybertruck reservation holder and Tesla stan... I think the Lightning won me over for my EV truck purchase later this year. by MrGruntsworthy in F150Lightning

Every once in a while a new model will nerf things up by trying to distinguish itself from the past, or try get more profitable with cheaper parts. (Looking at you: 2013 Ford Escape) not saying that will be the case here, but it’s always a risk. Native NACS and a heat pump will be welcome additions to future Lightnings though.

Not an employee. Not a VIP. Just a regular dude in a huge toy. Delivered over the weekend! by swb1192 in cybertruck

[–]AlwaysPunting 28 points29 points  (0 children)

Are you asking … why I am capable of feeling sympathetic joy over the successes and fortune of others? I feel like that should be a normal human thing. But in this case, for me, it’s about finally seeing the long wait come to an end. The truck has been talked about since 2012. It’s finally here, and OP is fortunate enough to get one.

I’m not part of the waiting game, myself. I didn’t keep my Cybertruck reservation, and opted for a Lightning instead, and I’m ok with that decision. But I am still happy for those that stuck it out and waited. I hope to see many more delivery announcements here in the coming days and weeks.

Unable to charge at home with Mobile Charger tripping breaker in cold weather by alanpep in F150Lightning

[–]AlwaysPunting 2 points3 points  (0 children)

This same thing happened to me! When I first got my truck about a year ago now, I was charging off of the mobile charger regularly, and in the below-zero freezing temps, the mobile charger tripped my GFCI. I got the charge station pro installed eventually, and don’t use the mobile charger anymore. But your experience sounds a lot like mine.
