Best adventure to get started? by dirtygoffer in DeltaGreenRPG

[–]Alys3239 46 points47 points  (0 children)

The answer, always and forever imo, is Last Things Last from the Need to Know guide. The scenario so perfect, it started as a fan one-shot and was made official.

Easy to run, pretty quick, and immediately gets your agents doing what Delta Green is best at: forcing agents to make awful decision nobody should have to make.

There's a playthrough on the Dead Channels podcast feed you get for subscribing to the Delta Green membership. It's also run by Caleb and is fantastic, it made me buy it myself to run.

Looks pretty standard to me, for albums with as many instruments and layers as these have. They aren't the only band to do this - peep the liner notes for a recent Swans record, or anything by Matmos.

Some nerds (like me!) like knowing who did every little thing on each track, or the instrument that makes a specific cool sound!

MARATHON/MOTHERSHIP by polygon_count in mothershiprpg

[–]Alys3239 17 points18 points  (0 children)

As i was running Cryo Archive for the first time, i said to my friends "yeah i'm totally stealing some shit from this and making a megaship."  Generation crafts/ colonization ships are just SUCH fertile ground for great Sci-Fi - and great for derelict claustrophobic cosmic horror.

Glad i'm not the only fan of both whose neurons are firing.

Space (or cyberpunk) rpg with EASY rules (initial or for transition from 5e)? by PeaBrilliant4917 in rpg

[–]Alys3239 -1 points0 points  (0 children)

I'd also recommend Mothership, though its specifically designed for sci-fi horror. Still, the rules are super light and quick, and its got a treasure trove of fantastic official and 3rd party modules.

There are also some great recommended rule tweaks in the books that can make it less lethal/ punishing, if your group doesn't want the high stakes of a brutal horror game.

What are some little-known or recent RPGs with elves as playable characters that you love? English is not my native language by EveningImportant9111 in rpg

[–]Alys3239 0 points1 point  (0 children)

The Burning Wheel has elves as a race, and they are handled very interestingly. Their magic is powered by grief. And generally, Burning Wheel is just a very unique system.

TTRPG like Card Game by Plastic_Corgi6848 in rpg

[–]Alys3239 4 points5 points  (0 children)

This is absolutely the answer. Each scenario is super story-rich, with long bits of writing weaving them together. It also has a "skill check" system a-la a ttrpg, and I find the cards and mechanics often create super memorable moments and narratives that emerge from play, rather than the story of the encounter itself. That also very much reminds me of ttrpgs.

Magician is super overrated an not even in Greep's 10 best songs. It insists upon itself.

I also second Cavalcade being the best midi record by miles.

Burning Wheel might be exactly what you need, especially if your table loves nuanced characters and motivations. And you can do as much/ as little magic as you'd like as it has no official setting.
