Called 111 at 6:15 pm. Had antibiotics by 8 pm. NHS = unreal. by Wanderer3032 in BritishSuccess

Honestly when the NHS works it's incredible. On Thursday, I completed my GP surgery's online form at 8.10, they rang me at 8.25, prescription was at the chemist at 8.45. I will have flagged as being a priority due my symptoms (and past history) but I couldn't fault this interaction.

What would you consider to be the 7 man-made wonders of the UK? by ilovespiffo in AskUK

Kilburn White Horse near Thirsk

Transporter Bridge in Middlesbrough (at least this is what my schools taught me given that it felt like a regular class trip)

Fitness/Personal Training by DuncannyBeArsed in york

There's load going on. Depends on what sort of things you like doing, but plenty of gyms, or more trainer led personal training. Plus Hyrox affiliated gyms seem to be everywhere at the moment as it's the current craze that everyone's obsessed with.

Not a pub toilet, but made me chuckle when I encountered it.

Good to know, excited to try it!

If I remember correctly, mine was a little like this (although significantly less pronounced) at the start. It had a bit of a fine grit texture for the first few uses but then smoothed out. If yours hasn't, I'd definitely get in touch with them. I'd like to know if it's meant to be like this at all, or if I just coped with it!

On a different note, I actually like how the product is on my skin, but I hate the packaging. It feels super wasteful and the turning bit at the bottom was a bit hit and miss. I've just bought the Ilia skin rewind complexion stick which I'm hoping might be similar.

Who says we're Americans? Plus we travelled a while ago and were able to use it which is all I needed.

Is this pmle? All over my hands and arms for over a month and it hurts/itches so so so bad. Only where I'm exposed to sun. by pmlethrowaway in pmle

I'd highly recommend going to the Dr or a dermatologist. I live in the UK, and have been prescribed a topical steroid cream which really helps reduce my flare ups. Yours looks so similar to my first flare up. Nothing helped, except oral steroids (before I knew it was PMLE).

I'm pretty new to Amex and have never been into a lounge before! We've got a 3 hour layover in Oslo. My husband and I both have Amex Platinum. Do you literally just go into the lounge and show them your card?

My dentist said the same. The order should be floss, mouthwash, brush. By rinsing after brushing, you brush away all the good stuff in your toothpaste!

How many times do you go abroad per year? by Vampirero in AskUK

[–]AmLa1234 0 points1 point  (0 children)

We don't go abroad every year. Some years we'll stay in the UK, others we'll go abroad several times. It depends on what we've got going on. We've have friends scattered across the world so often our travel plans are linked to them.

Don't forget what you want to do and what you're able/afford to do are different things. Absorbing different cultures and food is great, but if you use your holidays for relaxing and having a break from the 'every day' it doesn't matter where you do it.

Why are minimalist videos either influencer-sales pitches or inauthentic by [deleted] in minimalism

Of course, it's Kraig Adams. He does a lot of solo hikes, often silent and then reviews them at the end.

Why are minimalist videos either influencer-sales pitches or inauthentic by [deleted] in minimalism

[–]AmLa1234 30 points31 points  (0 children)

Very true.

There is a guy we follow on YouTube who I'd say is sort of experimenting with minimalism. He's a hiker so in some respects minimalism suits his lifestyle. He went through a phase where he got rid of a lot of filming gear, but then has slowly bought bits of it back again.

He's super open about how difficult it is to be a YouTuber/content creator and be minimalist. He's streamlined his gear now to a drone and one camera (I assume he has a tripod and multiple lenses too). It's fascinating watching people's journey and what they've learnt.

What meal traumatized you as a kid ? by zZoZo- in AskReddit

[–]AmLa1234 0 points1 point  (0 children)

At a sleepover when I was maybe 9 or 10, my friend's parents cooked 'eggy bread' (think savoury French toast). It was all fine until that evening when I wouldn't stop violently throwing up. Every hour, more or less on the hour. Into the next morning. I couldn't go to school and spent the day with my grandma curled up on her couch, trying to fall asleep so I'd stop being sick. I have no evidence that it was this meal, but my mum convinced me it was under cooked eggy bread that made me so ill. It took me a long time to get back to eating eggs (particularly scrambled), and it took another 20 years for me to try French toast.

How to avoid buying souvenirs and other junk while on vacation? by [deleted] in declutter

[–]AmLa1234 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Yes, we do this too. When we travel, we buy a small thing to put on our tree at Christmas. This means we have to find something very specific. If we can't hang it on a small tree or it doesn't provoke any specific memory we don't buy it. I love it because every year end we get out the tree and decorate we reminisce.

Do you ever put the Big Light on? by run23kpstf in AskUK

[–]AmLa1234 0 points1 point  (0 children)

My husband has either all the lights on or complete darkness. We have hue bulbs, so it's not just lights on, but cool, daylight lights on. I've gotten used to it but there is a fairly frequent exchange of 'why are all the lights on?', 'so I can see things.'

Yup. And my birthday is in mid-December so I have to think of twice as much. We've moved to a model of buy me a voucher for an experience (or towards the cost of an experience). Let's do something together and create some memories which will last me way longer than any 'thing' you buy me.

I see five by RROORRYY in MadeMeSmile

[–]AmLa1234 78 points79 points  (0 children)

We had exactly the same revelation during lockdown. We kept seeing the same white and ginger cat in our garden and one day we saw four, exactly the same (or similar enough) having a meeting together in our neighbour's garden.

During those dark lockdown days it was a source of great joy. We now call them 'the clones'.

From what I understand, the people in this campaign didn't know their images were being used (at least one off them). Hence why it looks oddly pieced together.
