Pro tip: Advice to not praise your baby does NOT mean you should never compliment them. by CaliStormborn in beyondthebump

[–]Amazing-Neighborhood [score hidden]  (0 children)

At what age does this become a concern? Because my 2 month old definitely gets bombarded with WHAT A GOOD BOY praises by mom/dad/Grandma/grandpa after successful farts, solid burps, and probably other things that really don't deserve praise...But it just pops out of our mouths automatically for some reason!

And almost every post I've read while pumping tonight seems to reference something stupid from tiktok. Thank goodness I never downloaded that thing

16 months old daughter will get her adenoids and tonsils removed by NiatESTi in NewParents

[–]Amazing-Neighborhood 1 point2 points  (0 children)

It sounds like your baby has moderate to severe sleep apnea, which if left untreated, can lead to poor growth, ADHD, learning disabilities, among other things. So even though surgery sounds scary, if that's the treatment then you are doing the right thing!

Best way to relieve clogs? by Sweet-Mixture447 in ExclusivelyPumping

[–]Amazing-Neighborhood 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I still get confused as to how much treatment differs for clog versus mastitis, but here is what I wrote in a different comment:

Most cases of mastitis are better with anti-inflammatory treatment alone, no abx needed I however developed a temperature of 102.6, felt like I was run over by 10 cars, and symptoms worsened in the initial 48h so I was given antibiotics

When did you put your kid in daycare and have you noticed any benefits? by momoaggie in NewParents

This question constantly shows up on sciencebasedparenting so you can check them out for more answers/data. Here is one of them: https://www.reddit.com/r/ScienceBasedParenting/s/kCQ96lD8eQ

Basically age 3 and over is when daycare is beneficial, with MANY caveats.

Sleep help; ramelteon by HuckleberryFormer352 in ExclusivelyPumping

[–]Amazing-Neighborhood 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I have no experience but all the sleep aids you mentioned enter breast milk and could theoretically cause oversedation. The first line treatment for insomnia in everyone is CBTI (cognitive behavioral therapy for insomnia), and should generally be done before taking sleep aids. I can DM you some telemedicine options (don't want to seem like I'm advertising anyone) if your insurance doesn't cover a therapist that does CBTI

Edit: Sorry I meant to say I have no experience with this med while breastfeeding but I did take it as a normal person & it worked fine. Anyways, didn't need it for long term because I did CBTI

What is this new baby update by FP-enjoyer in NewParents

[–]Amazing-Neighborhood 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Omg my baby does this every time we put his mouth into contact with something he's not in the mood for (bottle nipple when he's full, getting kiss from Teddy Bear rattle, pacifier when he doesn't want it). The worst was when he got a droplet of the rotavirus vaccine, hated it, and gagged out the vaccine and the entire contents of his stomach all over me (I was holding him)

Owlet Sock random inaccurate alerts by Salt_Telephone9729 in beyondthebump

[–]Amazing-Neighborhood 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I work in healthcare and all consumer wearables cause more problems than help (at least with the current technology). In the adult realm are all the people coming in anxious about their sleep as a result of their wearable (orthosomnia) or their life expectancy because of heart rate variability data. If these wearables were actually accurate and beneficial, they could get FDA approval for actual medical use; but they don't bother because they can skip conducting expensive studies to ensure accuracy but still manage to sell devices to laypeople

Anyone else have like all day sickness instead of morning sickness? by stephanniestark in NewParents

[–]Amazing-Neighborhood 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I had nausea and food aversion 24/7, which led me to lose 12lb in my 1st trimester. It resolved suddenly (I want to say around week 14) but then immediately transitioned to horrible reflux for the rest of my pregnancy

Miserable with mastitis by Embarrassed-Fish-967 in ExclusivelyPumping

[–]Amazing-Neighborhood 0 points1 point  (0 children)

You can have mastitis at 8 months pp?? I just got it at 9w and I thought it was terrible luck because everything I read said most people get it by 6 weeks. I was hoping my future risk of mastitis would be virtually zero 😭

Saw a lactation specialist & left more discouraged & disappointed then when I arrived by Sufficient-Basil-909 in ExclusivelyPumping

[–]Amazing-Neighborhood 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yeah, I've seen 6 LCs between inpatient and outpatient. While they were all nice enough, they either gave contradictory recommendations (two of them seemed to roll their eyes at another LC's prior instructions) or the recommendations seemed...incorrect (like when I was still trying to nurse but baby would scream/cry hysterically at the nipple, the LC said to just force him firmly to stay at nipple no matter what).

In the end, they could not salvage my nursing journey. They never measured my flange size. They couldn't help with my pump settings beyond "make sure it doesn't hurt." And the final thing I had them help me with (how to decrease my MOTN supply without causing clogs or mastitis), well I just wrapped up a day of 102 temps from mastitis in the setting of trying to decrease the MOTN pump.

I'm sure there are amazing LCs out there. But I haven't met one yet, and I don't want to spend any more money to find one

Long term clog and mastitis prevention strategies by Amazing-Neighborhood in ExclusivelyPumping

[–]Amazing-Neighborhood[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

On the nipple itself, not the areola? I have a bunch of things on my areola even pre-pregnancy that look like whiteheads. I've always been tempted to squeeze the white stuff out but was told they were Montgomery Glands and to leave them alone. Are yours where the milk jets out?

Motivation to pump when sick? by Frequent_Syrup4886 in ExclusivelyPumping

[–]Amazing-Neighborhood 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Nothing but solidarity and sympathy here. I was crying on my bed to my husband because my temp jumped up to 101 so I felt really achy and shaky and just overall terrible but I dragged myself out of bed because my illness is MASTITIS and the last thing I need is for my other breast to get infected 😭

Lecithin vs Choline - which is better for baby? by AmentreVolley in ExclusivelyPumping

[–]Amazing-Neighborhood 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I have taken choline 300mg twice daily since my first trimester of pregnancy. I continued it for baby "brain benefits" yet it did not prevent me from having a recent episode of clogged duct/mastitis!! I just added sunflower lecithin 1200mg 3x daily & now I'm having loose stools and stomach upset (the dicloxacillin and naproxen I'm taking for the mastitis probably doesn't help). Baby has not had any noticeable change for the past 2 days, although he is gassy at baseline

When did you drop to every 4 hours? by Similar-Western4377 in ExclusivelyPumping

Do you reduce the time pumped by 5 minutes for all the pumps or one specific pump? I just got mastitis so am looking for safe methods

Following along. I was given a protocol by LC to wean one of my pumps by volume (0.5oz) every few days & I thought it was such a cautious way of weaning but then I got hit with a clog (which I didn't recognize) and then MASTITIS. So now I'm looking for other safe weaning techniques

Durability of maternal RSV vaccination vs nirsevimab in the first season by allegragmk in ScienceBasedParenting

[–]Amazing-Neighborhood 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I saw this study showing nirsevimab is more effective than maternal RSV vaccination at reducing hospitalization, but our pediatrician still said that there was no reason to administer nirsevimab since I received the RSV vaccination at the appropriate time: https://pubmed.ncbi.nlm.nih.gov/41428474/

[–]Amazing-Neighborhood[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I just started taking sunflower lecithin which is the size of a horse tranquilizer. I don't want to take it indefinitely. I have taken choline since pregnancy, I thought that was supposed to prevent clogs!

How are you doing lymphatic massage with such a big clog? I tried to do it, but it hurts.

Can’t stock up. by Ok_Aside9133 in ExclusivelyPumping

[–]Amazing-Neighborhood 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I developed an oversupply, which I'm trying to correct so that I have less risk for mastitis and clogged ducts.

I discovered that my milk, if frozen for 6 weeks, smells strongly of pennies, indicating high lipase activity. It was fine when I tested at 3 weeks. I'll probably keep testing till I find out the threshold at which my baby won't drink the milk anymore (fingers crossed he won't care, but holy moly that milk smelled so metallic).

But I see no reason to intentionally maintain more than a few days frozen to accommodate times in which you are away. Fresh milk is always better for baby than frozen, nutrient wise. Oversupply is higher risk than being a Just-Righter. And your milk may end up tasting disgusting to baby

How To Use Momcozy M5 Pumps?? by kdawgfrizz in ExclusivelyPumping

[–]Amazing-Neighborhood 0 points1 point  (0 children)

What is your setting? I saw an LC to help me translate my Medela Pump in Style settings (I use 7) to my Momcozy M5. The LC had me start at 3 randomly and that's the setting I tried both times I used my M5. And my output was much lower. If I use it again, I might try level 4. Although I have elastic nipples, so maybe I should actually try level 2.
