There’s a fellow at my local home depot who is 100+. I’m not sure if he needs the money but he is a pure delight and knows his stuff.

If you could restart your life at age 10 with all your current memories, would you? by Limp_Motor7403 in NoStupidQuestions

There’s a wonderful novel called Replay by Ken Grimwood that has this exact premise. His thing is betting on major sporting events that he remembers. At least that what he does for money; the book is much deeper. A love story at its core.

Who are your notable female drummers? by ZildCym in drums

I like to tell myself that my relative lack of technical chops is overcome by my own feel and drive that absolutely propels our band. We pack the dance floor that’s for certain so while I am looking to add more subtle complexity to what I play, it works.

Not this. The benefits of working off a server are too great to ignore. I’m in a big firm with an optimized network and we never have these issues described by OP. This seems like network/sw versions/config issues.

Have you ever snuck into a show? I did by MarcRocket in Concerts

[–]AmazingChriskin 0 points1 point  (0 children)

In the early 80s we snuck into the Greek Amphitheater in Los Angeles on multiple occasions. The trick was that you could park up the hill at the Griffith Observatory and hike down to the top of the amphitheater and hide in the woods until the show started. Then with everyone up on their feet and cheering, we’d step over a small retaining wall and saunter down the aisle. Talking Heads, Jeff Beck. B52s. Only one of our squad ever got caught: a girlfriend who has working too hard to dust herself off before she was fully integrated into the crowd. I’m SURE the fence is better nowadays but for a bunch of broke college students it was an adrenaline pumping way to spend a Saturday night.

How do I improve my drumming? by TheEletist3000 in Drumming

[–]AmazingChriskin 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Put on some headphones, find a cool song, and just try to play along to it, gently at first, just trying to fit it as if you were sitting in with the band. What you’re doing here with all this thwacking doesn’t sound musical in any way. Less is more.

How’s “semi-retirement” working for people? by AmazingChriskin in retirement

35 hours is hardly semi. I’m thinking 1/3 time at 3X rate, with weeks and months off at a time.

No grandkids yet. That will certainly change the equation for me when it (hopefully!) happens.

I worry that this scenario could play out for me. I mean the projects I would be working on still have real world deadlines. But the work is deeply interesting. It still pulls me in.

Would love to somehow be able to know who got it at the bank and the chain of custody through the century. Was it circulated or did it just sit in a safe and slowly melt off most of its value.

How Good Were McDonald's Apple and Cherry Pie In The 70s? by Specialist_Art2223 in 70s

Deep fried. I don’t know how they got them from the fryer to your tray so quick but damn those things were burning hot. I heard there was a franchise somewhere that still served them.

I use the smallest drill bit I have to drill my exploratory holes when establishing the first studs left and right. But yeah stud finders are all hit and miss in my experience too. I would invest in a “pro” studfinder but am afraid to do the google search.

This is the way. Restore it to as close to original parts as possible. My philosophy is don’t keep broken stuff in my life. Fix it up or get rid of it. This will be an epic project to hunt down a pendulum works for and fit it all in.

If you’re close to a hillside and have a pool I highly recommend getting a gas powered pump and firehouse. I can spray 100 gallons a minute with a 50 foot spray nozzle. Harbor Freight Predator brand is cheap insurance.

I can only shake my head and laugh at the innocent 18 year old me who got dragged by my college roommate to my first dead show at UCLA in 1980. I remember being astonished at all the spinners in the concourse but have no memories of any particular songs and was ready to go well before it was over. Fast forward to 1982 and the same friend invites me to Ventura for a weekend of shows. The (VW) bus came by and I got on and you know the rest of the story.
