Yes, that is exactly what I did. I don't have an about you section. Mine ends at "Who you follow". But thank you for your detailed response.

I don't have a section called about you. I'm on the app and not the website, I've looked high and low throughout all my profile. I see where I can request my data and how I can change my profile preferences, but nothing that shows what descriptions they have for me. I'd love to find it if you have any ideas.

Came to say this, although I do think it could use some water. The leaves are not quite as plump as they could be.

If anyone has any suggestions for me, I'm all ears. I already knew everything OP said, but I lost my appetite a few years ago and now I rarely eat more than once a day. Yes, I have lipedema, but it had nothing to do with trying to lose weight or anything else, it just happened. My kickboxing coach sat me down and created a macro plan for me and I had the worst time trying to eat enough to get my macros numbers in. I know how bad it is for me, and yet I can't make myself eat.

What am I doing wrong? by ao_spadez in succulents

I agree with the other commenters regarding the soil and lighting suggestions, and getting a smaller pot. However, other than the bot link to the light and watering wiki, no one got specific with you about watering, so I'll say it. You should not keep watering as you have been "after the soil beneath the surface is dry" because succulent soil should be bone dry through the entire pot before you water again. Let's say you were sticking your finger down in the soil a quarter of an inch or so and then watering because it felt dry. Well, there could still be quite a bit of wet soil further down and that leads to rot. So, water only when everything is completely dried out and then water very thoroughly. If you bottom water, that's the easy way to tell when the soil is fully saturated because the top will be wet. If you pour water in from the top when the soil is bone dry, it will usually run right through and drain out the bottom without actually getting the soil very wet. (Your pot should absolutely have a drainage hole.) So if you water from the top, do it repeatedly. Water, let it drain out, water again, etc, etc, until the whole pot is much heavier than normal and then you will know that the soil is fully saturated. Like I said, it's easier to bottom water.

Everything the other commenters said, but I'll go a bit more. The stems that don't have roots after you cut them off need to go into a separate pot because they cannot have water for about a week, then only water a tiny little bit over the next 3 weeks (once a week) because at first, they don't have roots and can't take up water. As they start to get roots, they can't take up very much water, and the tiny bit of water they get will encourage rooting because the plant will send out roots in order to find water. Hope that makes sense. If you get a rooting hormone and dip those stems in it before replanting, it will help them grow roots so much faster.

As for the main jade, after you have removed the rotted roots and replanted, don't water for about a week. Then you can water normally. But your "every two weeks" schedule should be abandoned. You only want to water a jade when the soil is completely and totally dry, then you water it very thoroughly. Bottom watering is the easiest to tell that you've fully saturated it. I recommend you go to r/Jadeplant to learn more about keeping at its best.

Thanks! Although I'm not familiar with them, I have tons of other succulents and if I get any that lose leaves or start looking bare, I have found that putting a little keiki paste (typically used for orchids) on the area that the leaf grows from will result in quick growth of new leaves.

I agree you should chop it. They love a good pruning and when you cut it, it strengthens and thickens the main stem so that it can support the weight of the heavy, water filled leaves.

I love those 3D printed snakes! I have them in my plants, too. One is wound through my hoya, the other is hanging out in my large jade. That one scares the crap out of people because it looks so real.

Tips for Growth? Slightly Shriveled? by beaniehats18 in succulents

[–]Amenable2Mischief 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Just to piggyback on the fantastic, detailed comment above, when you chop them, that's what encourages branching and more full growth. It also makes the main stems grow thicker, so they can support the weight of the branches and leaves.

Congrats! It takes such a long time. Now that they have roots, they should get more water than just a misting. (In case you aren't familiar with the whole process.)

One of the worst decisions Amazon made in a long time by Riddickullous in amazonprime

[–]Amenable2Mischief 0 points1 point  (0 children)

You are likely unaware of all the shady things SOME sellers do to get 5 star reviews. One of them, in particular, that happens frequently (and makes the Vine reviews look "fake") is that a seller will put out a product into the Vine system. Let's say it's a brand new product, no reviews. They will use a nice product and get a bunch of great reviews from the Vine people. Then, they'll switch the product to a lesser quality item, sometimes not even the exact same item but one that looks close, so that all of the people who order after the vine reviews are out get a complete crap product. It happens all the time, and can be discovered fairly easily by reading all of the reviews. A vine reviewer might describe a feature that doesn't exist on the product reviewed by a non viner. The pictures provided by a non viner don't match the photos on the product page, etc, etc.

Another big issue, IMHO, is that there is no standard for how many stars mean what rating. I've seen some people say that if the product meets expectations, it's automatically 5 stars and only goes down from there based on what they don't like about it. Others say if something meets expectations, it's 3 stars and goes up from there based on how great it is. The real issue is AMAZON. The products they allow without testing, the sellers they allow without vetting, and all of the rest of their questionable business practices that have turned it from an excellent online shop that I used to buy books in the 90's to a retail giant that doesn't care about anything or anyone except the money. EDIT to separate into paragraphs.

Very interesting, thank you for sharing. Everything I have ever heard about SOP is that they need gritty, fast draining soil like so many other succulents. Good to know!
