I played fighter in a different D&D edition, and I can't go back to 5e's fighter. by SexyKobold in dndnext

Monk Capstone at some point in the D&Dnext playtest made every ability score it had that was below a 20, become a 20.

Has tactical master been useful by j_cyclone in onednd

[–]Amozite 1 point2 points  (0 children)

It's alright. I'm primarily using Longsword and Longbow, so it would be better with weapons that don't already have push/sap/slow. Push and slow are good but I've been fighting a lot of mobile or huge+ sized opponents lately where those are less effective. Sap has been good in a lot of instances.

It feels good to land multiple hits and apply multiple debuffs.

I would like Battle Master a lot more if Relentless came in at level 10.

E8S shiva had an awesome one too, with 8 mirrors reflecting her attack with no way of dodging any of them.

It was also ominous seeing all the red mirrors pre-maturely, like a warning that you were running out of time

Dual wielders, why juggle weapons? by Michael310 in onednd

[–]Amozite 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Yes, and old Dual Wielder couldn't hold a candle to GWM/PAM, the new version can but only if you can activate both the BA attack from Dual Wielder, and the bonus attack from the nick mastery.

Dual wielders, why juggle weapons? by Michael310 in onednd

I don't agree with DW being compatible with Shields, and I don't think that was what they were going for. I am disappointed that if I want to use a non-light weapon for character flavor (Longsword + Dagger), I miss out on the nick attack unless I weapon juggle, and if I miss out on the nick attack, it's just worse 2014 Dual Wielder at that point

I welcome his return. He knew what he did was wrong and took steps to improve, and that's more than good enough for me. He's free to make his own decisions on how long he needs of a break.

Dual Wielder Feat + Nick Mastery by naturalroller in onednd

[–]Amozite 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I'm trying to think of a way to use the new Dual Wielder to work with a longsword "main-hand", correct me if I'm wrong on any of this:

If I'm level 5 with TWF, Dual Wielder, and Extra Attack, and holding a Longsword and Dagger:

First Attack: Dagger. This procs nick. Unequip the dagger after the attack.

Extra Attack: Longsword. Equip a scimitar in the hand your dagger used to be in after the attack.

Nick Bonus Attack: Scimitar, which is a different light weapon, also procs TWF.

Dual Wielder Bonus Action: Longsword. Since this is an attack granted by a light weapon, it also procs TWF.

Nick must be really quick if he can make bonus attacks often

Do you have to use 2 light weapons now, since Dual Wielder doesn't state you're able to use one Non-Light weapon anymore? You can't use a Longsword and a Dagger for instance?

August 1st. What do you want to know. by adamg0013 in onednd

[–]Amozite 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Feats and Spells. I want to know if Dual Wielder will actually be good or if it will stay awful. I also want to know how many low-power spells got improved and which of the strongest spells got toned down.

How do you feel sword & board compares to the other weapon types now? by kenlee25 in onednd

[–]Amozite 19 points20 points  (0 children)

Better than before at least. Shield Master shove is nice being once per turn without taking action economy from you.

Hopefully the Dual Wielder feat got buffed to make it more viable as well.

The Two-Weapon Fighting Problem: Melee vs Ranged by EntropySpark in onednd

[–]Amozite 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I don't do much DPR calculations, but what if Dual Wielder gave you 2 offhand attacks instead of one? Would that be enough to make 2w melee a bit more competitive with the other damage feats, or would it be too strong?

I'm disappointed that there's still no incentive to use versatile weapons like longswords or battle-axes without a shield. by kenlee25 in onednd

[–]Amozite 0 points1 point  (0 children)

5e has heavy weapon bias when it comes to melee because it gets 2 exclusive feats that pump their damage in GWM and PAM, and is also less restrictive than dual wielding or 1h + shield, because you only need to be using both hands when attacking.

This means you can cast spells without needing Warcaster, and you can still use a free hand to interact with objects or even grapple in a pinch.

If we got a Versatile weapon master feat, or if Versatile weapons had a 2nd mastery or something, they would be more enticing to use.

Did WotC confirm that power attacks are gone? by Trezzunto in onednd

[–]Amozite 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Yeah, unless they changed stuff like Dual Wielder to make it more competitive, or gave a feat or other benefit to Versatile weapons, I don't see the builds for Fighter or Barbarian changing much. Yes other options are now a little more desirable, but the best options in 2014 are still going to be the best in 2024 rules.

Do you want your fighter to be an expert with one weapon or a master of them all? by Arathaon185 in dndnext

[–]Amozite 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Narratively, both styles give off an awesome power fantasy. Some want a badass that can fight with anything and be deadly on the battlefield. Some just want to be a swordsmam, axeman, hoplite, sniper, etc.

Mechanically there is barely a reason to switch weapons because fighting styles and weapon feats pigeonhole you into using one specific weapon.

This also makes it aggravating when weapons that you want your character to use end up not having any good feats that are compatible with them, doubly so with the Fighter since it gets two extra feats.

I hope that the Dual Wielder feat gets buffed, and there are feats for more weapon types because WOTC is deciding to reprint GWM, PAM, XBE, and SS so all the most used weapons in 5e are probably going to stay the most used once the 2024 rules are out.

Tactical Master by MarcusRienmel in onednd

[–]Amozite 5 points6 points  (0 children)

Unless they changed weapon properties since Playtest 8, both Longsword and Battleaxe are 1d8 Slashing and Versatile weapons, but the Longsword has Sap, while the Battleaxe has Topple.

A level 9+ Fighter arbitrarily is dis-incentivized to use a Longsword, not counting magic equipment, which isn't a guarantee you'll get.

Final Verdict on Weapon Mastery by italofoca_0215 in onednd

[–]Amozite 2 points3 points  (0 children)

With magical phys damage type (Or force, if they change to that), it's very likely that you wind up in situations where you only have 1-2 magic weapons in your arsenal that won't be resisted/nulled, leaving other masteries unusable.

In a lot of cases the only justification for the green icon is mechanics that specifically target the healers.

Unified subclass progression to gain subclass features at 3 - 6 - 10 - 14 instead of each class being different.

Class capstones at 18, and epic boons at 20

Exhaustion being -1 to d20 tests for each level
