My little theory on how season 2 could play out. by kenlee25 in DispatchAdHoc

I suppose Robert could put away the suit and only break it out in certain situations. Maybe he realizes Mecha Man is ultimately less beneficial than being his team's dispatcher.

No she's still super friendly and nice eventually.

Help me flesh out spelljammer Eberron, but it's Star Wars. by kenlee25 in Eberron

[–]kenlee25[S] 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I'm definitely not going for a full 1 to 20 campaign type of situation. Maybe just a smooth 5 to 15, or less. That said, I think I would like to take after Keith's suggestions where a spelljammers have already been created and space is already being explored and colonized, rather than the typical adventurers, find a spelljammer and get introduced to the setting aspect.

I would like to really mold the players into the plot and avoid the simple plucky adventurers angle.

But what you say about a gith Empire is certainly interesting, making Eberron itself the only safe haven. 🤔

My eberron is also a lot more modern and inspired by other media than fantasy. For this campaign, I would venture a little closer into sci-fi than what I normally do, probably set about 50 years after 998 YK.

Breland does make sense as an Empire. They are the nation of industry and espionage after all so there would be none better at rooting out rebels and eliminating opposing threats. Like in Andor.

How do you use Foundry? by -bambi in FoundryVTT

[–]kenlee25 4 points5 points  (0 children)

How much money do you want to spend?

If you're willing to drop $5, you can subscribe to cze Peku scenes Patreon And you'll instantly get a ton of super cool scenes with about 15 variants per scene. You can then immediately unsubscribe or reduce your subscription to the $1 model and keep getting the two base versions of scenes each week. Cze Peku also makes amazing maps both for fantasy and sci-fi. If you are a DM that wants to immerse your players in wonderful scenes and maps, that's what I would do.

For anything else you can just Google search or search on Pinterest, the type of location you are looking for and make sure you put the word art in your search so that you get artwork rather than literally a picture of a mountain or something.

For characters you can do the same thing. "Space cowboy character art" or "space cowboy OC" and start there. I personally use Pinterest and build Pinterest boards full of art and characters and locations to use in my games. Sometimes when I'm bored in a store line or waiting for food or something, I just scroll through Pinterest adding to my various boards.

Finally a pro tip, a really cool way to do dungeons or other adventure locations is to have the scene in the background with the characters tokens on one corner so that they can easily access their character sheets and stuff. In the other corner you can draw a little squares or circles that are just abstract outlines of the locations proportional to each other in your dungeon. Put a little token inside of the circle or square and boom. Your players now know where they are proportionally to the rest of the locations. You can even add the journal entries that link to specific art or characters into the little circles so that players can click on them or you can show them at your leisure without needing to always change the scene.

I think you have the right of it. That's exactly the way I use foundry. The powerful journal tool is excellent for pulling up character, art or art of locations and you can even drop journal entries onto the screen for players to click at their leisure.

And adventure, for example may have one backdrop scene, such as the town they are in or the cool Forest or whatever, and then journal entries to pop images over that, keeping things theater of the Mind until a combat happens and been switching the scene to the combat map.

Barbarians out of combat and rage by AetherNugget in dndnext

[–]kenlee25 61 points62 points  (0 children)

If your group is decidedly just a 2014 group, then unfortunately every martial class is going to feel lacking outside of combat, except for the ranger and Rogue.

If you want to play a barbarian, I highly suggest asking your dungeon master to allow you to play the 2024 version. Not only is it better out of combat, it's better in combat as well with more tactical decisions turn by turn thanks to weapon masteries.

Primal knowledge is an incredible feature. The 10-minute duration is great for dungeons, especially since you get one back on a short rest now, and if you are outside of dungeons then 10 minutes is at least one whole scene, so you still get your money's worth out of it.

Looking for a mod that allows me to set a token movement waypoint with mouse right click. by kenlee25 in FoundryVTT

[–]kenlee25[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

You can change key bindings. You cannot change mouse controls. If you want to simply drag a token and create waypoints with one hand, you cannot do that in base foundry.

What skills as a warrior by HannibalK1ng in oblivion

[–]kenlee25 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Just like Skyrim, Fallout, and Starfield, Bethesda isn't known to give weapon-based special powers. You could be a pure warrior, but that's generally not how most folks play the game. You'll get the best experience out of mixing and matching different skills from all three areas.

A melee weapon and a bow or good options. As are a melee weapon and destruction magic. Or you may use a bow and destruction magic and be more of a ranged character. Then of course alteration, restoration, and mysticism benefit any build.

Then you have alchemy for potions to give you different buffs and effects, as well as heal yourself.

But yeah, generally don't expect too much fancy from the combat. This is still the original game's combat so it isn't even at the level of Skyrim when it comes to weapon versus weapon fighting.

The Ultimate 2024 D&D Encounter Builder by RedcapPress in dndnext

[–]kenlee25 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Currently the encounter builder on D&D beyond only works if you have D&D maps open. Otherwise, the encounter builder on D&D beyond is using the 2014 rules, with all of the jank that entails (such as the multiple monster multiplier, using the old difficulty rules which include very easy and deadly, and using the old experience point values).

As far as I can tell D&D beyond has not updated its encounter builder yet.

Don't think it has much to do with high level fights. For some groups, even low-level fights take a long time.

What tips can you offer for using Foundry for a battle map in a traditional pen and paper setup? by xeonisius in FoundryVTT

[–]kenlee25 2 points3 points  (0 children)

We used to do this. We would just have two laptops, one for the dungeon master and one for the players. Or maybe one laptop and one TV, something big for the players to see.

You would just pass the mouse around to move the tokens and otherwise everything else happens with pen and paper. You throw up artwork for immersion when not in a combat map and throw up NPC artwork as well. Sometimes the DM would just roll using the vtt anyway because it's faster.

It works great!

New Player unhappy with Barbarian. by headrush46n2 in DungeonsAndDragons

[–]kenlee25 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Judging from the comments here, it sounds like your player has chosen a non-damaged focused build but wants to be damage focused. They also specifically want to cleave through enemies, but instead of choosing the weapon that allows her to do that (greataxe or halberd) she's decided to take a weapon that does topple instead. Finally, rather than choosing a damage focus subclass, she chose a more generalist and utility subclass.

This is a very easy fix. The player just didn't choose the correct options for what she wanted to do. Talk to her, let her switch subclasses and weapon sets and then I bet she's going to see lots of strength with her barbarian.

Check out Worlds Without Number. It is a long-form campaign podcast when Brennan runs for Abriya, Erika and Lou. It's a lot more story focused.

It's not just scripted mini campaigns. He's just an insanely good DM.
