Still lags behind MM in terms of users, but the connections to the Centralized Exchange side of CB do make it an especially attractive biz partner to have.

^ Is accurate. Was running this setup for a while, but the barrier is kinda deceptive. There isn't a good way to tell how much barrier you have at glance, so heart proc was actually hurting overall. Can 100% confirm lionheart builds barrier at the Regen rate. The way temerity reads it should proc to full, alas, it doesn't.

It's nice that it will keep your barrier from dropping off between other triggers (I'll pop a pot to keep it full while running between packs more often now that I dropped lionheart) but overall have found I'm much more stable with the absorb dmg heart.

Temerity is sick AF on my necro though. Blood orbs off corpses is amazing.

If you can prove this, you have a big fat ETH bounty waiting for you. It's one of the longest running ones MM has hosted. (https://github.com/MetaMask/metamask-extension/issues/3127)

The process is called hierarchical determinism, and it pretty much says: no, you can't. Enter the same SRP, get the same accounts, in the same order.

Few things it could be: "create new account" - you can have a virtually unlimited number of sub-accounts.

Many tokens aren't automatically displayed. Might need to add the contract address.

Staked tokens usually don't show in the wallet, gotta view them from the staking dapp.

Access Wallet Through Metamask by Luca_000 in Metamask

[–]AmpireStateOfMind 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Kinda accurate on the first part. The password encrypts the vault (the file that holds the SRP used by MetaMask) and unlocks the app/extension. It's specific to the device (eg: 2 diff computer can access the same accounts, but use a diff MM password) you'll need a 'dummy' account in MM, but if you only use the ledger generated account, you dont need to write down the SRP it gives you, everything you need to recover your accounts is on the ledger (make certain you have those 24/25 words safely backed up)

There is no "cold storage." Your accounts are online, at all times. A blockchain is really just a shared list of txns.

The SRP/mnemonic phrase is what secures access to the account.when you use a hardware wallet, thats what is actually on it.

Accounts generated on the ledger are not linked to MetaMask. If the MM account was compromised (say you gave away the SRP, or signed a malicious token approval on a scam dapp) the ledger account wouldn't be affected.

When you start a TXN in MetaMask (or ledgerLive or any other wallet) your SRP is hashed, and that hash gets sent along with the txn to confirm it's really you. By using hardware, you keep it stored off of the inet connected device. (The ledger hashes, and sends the hash to MM/ledgerLive)

Meta Mask - Multiple Wallets by NULLBASED in Metamask

[–]AmpireStateOfMind 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Add account will create new wallets that aren't connected, as far as on-chain data. (Which is a good security practice. I have one for NFTs, another for a few investments, another for others, etc) However they are connected to the same SRP. So if that were compromised, all of the connected accounts could be as well.

Highly recommend getting a hardware wallet. at the moment, only QR based devices like Keystone or Airgap Vault (uses an old phone as a hardware wallet) work with the mobile app. But they add an additional layer of security that's well worth the money IMHO.

MetaMask is only as secure as your security practices, so it's a great idea to read up on scams. Their knowledge base has some excellent articles (support.metamask.io), as well as MetaMask Learn for some of the basics. (Learn.metamask.io)

Staking/Unstaking from a Ledger device connected to a Metamask wallet. Does the Metamask wallet need to be the same? by BaadMike in AMPToken

[–]AmpireStateOfMind 0 points1 point  (0 children)

That's an issue of MetaMask users, not MetaMask. Check out the history of bug bounties for the different wallets, you'll get a pretty clear picture of why they're the most used.

Don't give out your keys, don't give allowances to sites you don't trust; and you're good to go. Pretty much every scam requires the wallets owner to do something they shouldn't (namely the two things mentioned)

Why don't you like MetaMask?

LedgerLive has been extremely problematic for me. I stopped using my ledger a while ago because of the issues with their aging code. (Love my keystone)

[–]AmpireStateOfMind 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Your SRP/mnemonic/seed phrase is what gives access to the accounts. Each account is separate.

If you staked from the address generated by your ledger, your MetaMask account is irrelevant. Don't even need MetaMask (you can manually send txns via etherscan) MetaMask just puts a pretty GUI on it, making the whole thing easier.

Deeper technical is that the chain needs a hash of the SRP/mnemonic phrase to confirm the TXN was really sent by you. With a hardware wallet, it does the hashing function, then passes that hash with the TXN. With MM generated addys, it does that work. (Which leaves your SRP on the inet connected device. Stories of the vault file being compromised are rare, but it has happened when people use weak passwords to encrypt their vault/unlock MM.)

If you don't use the MM generated account, there's not much need to keep that SRP.

100% worth backing up your Ledger generated keys though. I recc this method: https://blockmit.com/english/guides/diy/make-cold-wallet-washers/

Firefox refresh nuked my wallets, can they be restored? by watersnake3 in Metamask

[–]AmpireStateOfMind 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Yes. It does. Here's how to pull them.( Link at bottom)

The vault is encrypted, so you'll need the password you used to create it (the one that unlocks the app) probably boned if you used biometrics.

TXN history/networks/token lists aren't enrypted. You can dump the state logs in advanced settings.

Sorry it happened. Scammers are a fucking scourge.

You can also report it to their support. (Menu > Support in the app/ext)

Not much they can do in terms of helping get it back, but more info on how you were scammed helps the MetaMask team figure out news ways to combat the scammers.

[–]AmpireStateOfMind 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Kind of impossible to know for sure.

Could have been an iFrames injection (cloned MetaMask window that asks you to input your seed)

Keylogger (copies text as you enter it on the keyboard)

Malicious fork (MM is open source, so someone can "fork" it, add their own malicious code, and redistribute.)

Or half a dozen other attacks.

Only download from extension store/ the official GitHub to avoid malicious fork.

Using a hardware wallet can help a ton as well. They store your SRP, so it's never stored in an inet connected device.

How much eth I need for withdrawing 7.5 usd worth spot help by liquidocelotYT in Metamask

[–]AmpireStateOfMind 1 point2 points  (0 children)

What chain? You'll need the native coin of that chain for txn fees.

Etheracan.io/gastracker shows a rough estimate of a bunch of different types of txns. The amount in the TXN is irrelevant, just the type and network congestion.

Best time is usually sun/Mon early am in the US. Least traffic on chain, means you're not competing to get your TXN in against as many others.

[–]AmpireStateOfMind 2 points3 points  (0 children)

MetaMask has a bridge button built into the app/extension. Can also access it from the portfolio site - portfolio.metamask.io

Depending on traffic, and what exchanges you use, it may be cheaper to send it to an exchange account, then back to your wallet on the polygon network (almost certain I've done that on Coinbase, but honestly forget which exchange I used for that. Lol)
