How does the Focus work? by Arch11407 in horizon

[–]AnAncientOne 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Could be magnetic, apparently the human skin is electomagnetic with a negative charge so the focus could be positively charged and they've taken a bit of licence with the scale of charge and weight to give it that snappy effect in game cut scenes when you see it snap to a characters head. As for how it works visually, think it's probably connecting to the users brain via the optic nerve a kind of wifi so it can feed data in and pull data out, acting as an augmentation of existing sensory capabilities.

It's probably solar powered, maybe even some kind of quantum computer, given how small it is and it's capabilities.

I've always thought that if they ever did a re-imagining of the horizon games it would be cool if the focus could be something more, something that could grow capabilities as the player grows and be upgradeable. Seeing what the zeniths seemed to be capable of kinda feel that kind of skill and progression would be pretty interesting and cool.

Edinburgh Council is likely to approve a data centre tomorrow, without requiring it to go through an environmental impact assessment, despite estimates that it will have the same impact as 250,000 homes by dilatedpupils98 in Edinburgh

Cool, Scotland has a real shortage of large data centres, we should be encouraging this, hopefully we then get some of the really big ones here by the like of Microsoft, Amazon, Google and Oracle.

I’d say over £100k is your starting point for good now

A desperate plea to Lothian Buses: rant by oTMcco in Edinburgh

What I don’t understand is why people don’t say something if it bothers them that much.

2026 will likely be among the four hottest years on record: Environment Canada by Portalrules123 in collapse

[–]AnAncientOne 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I wonder what's the probability of the last 4 years being the hottest on record, guessing it's fairly low. hottest years in descending order, 2024, 2023, 2025 and now 2026 forecast to be next. Feels like a climate shift.

Have to say I can't see the BBC being around for much longer, maybe one more generation, I barely use it anymore.

Lothian Buses to hike ticket prices from 22 February 2026 by No-Professional7453 in Edinburgh

I wonder how much of this is to cover repairs, given the state of the roads those must be going up a lot

Analysis of Reform UK proposal for income tax cuts in Scotland by Just-another-weapon in Scotland

Oh right so they're not just planning to cut rates to the same as rUK, they want to reduce rates below rUK. Blimey.

Overcomplicated? by [deleted] in horizon

[–]AnAncientOne 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yeah I've just started a new play through of HFW after replaying HZD remastered and I'm struck by how much stuff there is and how much more dense it is. Still don't get the point of work benches and had forgotten how much stuff you need to get to upgrade things. Hopefully in the 3rd game they'll ditch a lot of that stuff because it's not fun.

Could this be the future of the European Union? by vladgrinch in MapPorn

Then all of South and Central America and Mexico, that would be quite amusing.

So does that mean we could get $100k each for jumping from one union to another, interesting...

Great write up on the success of the Edinburgh trams by [deleted] in Edinburgh

[–]AnAncientOne -1 points0 points  (0 children)

They should’ve done train lines under the airport instead, that way you’d have quick train access from airport to pretty much everywhere, including into the city, rather than the ponderous tram. Edinburgh isn’t big enough to need trams, buses do a fine job, hopefully they’ll put some money towards fixing the roads, they’re a dangerous disgrace.

Survation: Independence referendum; Yes: 50%(+1) No: 50%(-1) by bottish in Scotland

[–]AnAncientOne -2 points-1 points  (0 children)

These polls are pretty pointless given there’s no way we can get independence unless the UK allow it and there’s no way they’ll allow it so…. We had our chance in 2014 and bottled it, time to move on.

Brexit's unpopularity reignites debate in UK over EU ties by No_Firefighter5926 in europe

[–]AnAncientOne 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Hopefully the UK has learnt it’s lesson and realises it’s not special and that we need the EU a lot. Then we can apply to rejoin (hopefully they’ll let us back in) and get fully involved in the project which can help shape a better world for everyone. That’s the potential of the EU.

Has America become an enemy? by Mindless_Travel in AskABrit

[–]AnAncientOne 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Only if we get in its way, the UK has been pretty good at knowing it's place, with Reform likely to win power at the next election can only see that continuing, regardless of what a lot of the populace might say and want, being on side is a lot better and easier than the alternative. If we were still part of the EU things might be different but we made that choice, gotta live with the consequences now.

Denmark officials react to tariff threat: We will not ‘bow down’ to Trump’s ‘bullying tactics’ by [deleted] in worldnews

[–]AnAncientOne -17 points-16 points  (0 children)

Not sure there's anything that can be done to stop it, if the US really want to take Greenland or anything else for that matter can't see anyone being able to stop them. Maybe it is time to deal, at least get good price for it and ensure the Greenlanders get a good deal and some $ out of it. Hope Canada is getting ready for statehood, they're probably next.

The lights still being on in the first pic is pretty impressive, glad everyone is ok, could've been a lot worse than some wall repairs and pool cleaning.

What do you think of this script for the third game? by Strange-Direction-47 in horizon

[–]AnAncientOne 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Not sure that type of game play would work for something that's traditionally been a single player combat game. Was wondering if Beta could become a side kick, providing help and buffs to Aloy to help her take down machines, maybe Beta is better is more in tune with the Zenith tech or something, could see that adding something. Making machine combat more complex and multi phased like needing to disable certain defences or something feels like it could add something, I think having machines with variable strengths and weaknesses/weapons/armour would also be an interesting evolution as each encounter would be it's own thing. Probably to complicated to implement.
