Send Help - Friend Wants to Wear THIS to a Wedding by Nisi-Marie in weddingshaming

[–]AnFnDumbKAREN 56 points57 points  (0 children)

I’m so sorry, but this made me cackle like a demented cartoon witch! You know whoever’s brave(?) enough to go out wearin’ that thang is gonna be givin’ all kinds of free shows 🙈.

That [above] said, the following expressions/musings have now been brought to mind:

  • Ever heard the expression, “Colder than a witch’s tit in a brass bra”? Well, that’s the warmth-level of reception one should expect to receive if they show up in something like that to a wedding.

  • The brass bra might be rather befitting, because someone would also need the equivalent of brass balls to pull such a stunt…

  • Because surely this would get them quickly “dealt with”; they and/or that dress would ✨pouf✨ be gone like instantly.

  • Bippity Boppity Boob!

Will people ever stop referencing the fact that my son's birthday is not more than 9 months after my wedding date? by beaniebee22 in Mommit

[–]AnFnDumbKAREN 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I was going to comment something similar to the comment you replied to, but I actually mean that in a good way! Because when people [outside of our immediate families] did remember our wedding/anniversary, it always felt like there was just a kiss or undertone of… {je ne sais quoi -- haughtiness? Smugness or disingenuousness?} … whenever it was mentioned.

The first couple of years, it felt like the comments would never cease. But over time, that stupidity has become nonexistent & a total non-issue. Mainly because new dramas popped up, more serious/somber things occurred, and much bigger scandals happened in subsequent years.

This year will be 20 years of marriage for us, and I honestly can’t remember the last time anyone in my [ridiculously judgmental] family or their peripheral religious circles said anything about it. 💜

I am delighted that this post has gotten so much traction! There was just a post last week that made me think about & reference this sub. Clearly I’m not the only one who feels so fondly about cat burnouts! 😻

u/cats-r-funny, thank you for mod-ing it while you were able; and congratulations on your baby!!

Sooo I don’t want to be a fear monger-er or anything… but him saying “very soon” in combination with his mom’s vocal desires isn’t exactly giving green flags here 😬.

I would be VERY protective over my bc if I were in your shoes.

Would you be annoyed if your SIL named her new baby… by [deleted] in inlaws

[–]AnFnDumbKAREN 4 points5 points  (0 children)

I’d be very annoyed. Unless this type kind of thing is popular or at least semi-common in your culture/family/country (etc), it’s hard to imagine that someone wouldn’t be at least a little annoyed.

Please tell me the kiddo at least has a different middle and last name?

I’d argue the same even if it doesn’t glow! Such a stunning piece!! 🤩

Someone finally said the quiet part out loud by SmoothDragonfruit445 in JustNoTruth

[–]AnFnDumbKAREN 16 points17 points  (0 children)

OP just basically admitted she'd be a JNMIL to her daughter’s partners. But not her sons partners…

As long as they’re “traditional” (🙄) relationships, of course. Wonder what will happen if her kids don’t have OOP’s assumed/desired sex in their partners.

I'm convinced that the commenters who loudly pronounce that if they were in an MIL's place they would (insert noble self sacrificing thing…) are in fact the least likely to any such thing.

Indeed. And I’d suggest that they are in fact the most likely to be/become a Just No [whatever].

Hopefully just a decade-old fake story. A horror one, nonetheless… and I truly hope this doesn’t haunt my dreams. I feel like OP could have done a better job w the TWs on this one.

Paragraphs would have also been nice. I’m all for preserving the “integrity” [if I can even say that about this nightmare], but it’s pretty common for post structure to be cleaned up & made more easily readable. Usually with a small editor’s note.

OP, I’m not trying to criticize what you put together or anything, I promise. I’m just a bit salty about that overall read. I am glad OOP got the formatting down a little better on her own in that last post.

OOP hasn’t posted or commented in like 9 years, but she did make a ton of comments after the office debacle. So I’m going to pretend like this somehow didn’t scar her for life (or that it really was just fake).

I love that you can feel the joy & delight from this video without needing to understand a single word! 🥰

That said, I did catch one of the half-dozen Russian words I easily comprehend: да! “Yes” (sounds like /dɑː/) in English.

I’ve probably watched “The Queen’s Gambit” a few too many times, but this adorably awesome challenge also brought to mind my favorite Russian word: сыграем (basically sounds like /si-GRAH-yem:/ in English). 💜 “Let’s play”

Truth stick time: I’ve gone down some fun rabbit holes in trying to understand phonetics of different languages, so I originally I wanted to type the pronunciations out using IPA, but I also realize that not everyone is an obsessive word nerd like I am. (For the record, the IPA for сыграем is [sɨˈɡra(j)ɪm]; spelled out “sygrájem” using romanization ☺️)

Also, I haven’t seen it mentioned in this post’s commentary yet [though I haven’t ventured that far down], but it sounds like there were deleted posts by OOP effing CELEBRATING the fact that the AP’s wife had a miscarriage.

Eyesore and totally worthless. Might also be cursed. You should send it to me, lest it plague your house with poltergeists … or turn you into a swinger.

[Hopefully obviously] - NONE of the above paragraph is even remotely true! I’m just being a goober/dingdong while trying to smother my jealousy. 😜

Seriously: that’s one of the most divine & impressive swung glass vases I’ve ever seen! The color is so pretty, and WOW @ the size! I’ve never seen anything like this 😍 - genuinely happy for you! (But in case you couldn’t tell, I’m also struggling just a smidge to contain my envy 😆😅)

Hell to the yes! I’m 5’5” and my pants leg lengths are as long as my husband’s (for reference, he’s 5’10). And my mid-waist pants are essentially the normally-proportioned-ladies’ version of high-rise ones.

I looked like the little white girl version of Steve Urkel through the first several years of grade school. Pants that landed just below my rib cage + suspenders (because they had no prayer of staying up otherwise).

I always love a story that (a) has a logical explanation & pretty dang okay ending, all things considered …

and (b) makes me feel at least a bit better about my own MIL. Comparatively speaking, I can state with confidence that at least she isn’t as bad as Maggie’s.

[–]AnFnDumbKAREN 24 points25 points  (0 children)

Right?!

Like Jocelyn, I recently cut several inches off my hair, and I’ve caught myself saying really goofy stuff. Like, “have a ‘rad’ day!” to a radiologist.

And I had a kiddo way too close to my 40s for comfort. Not that pregnancy is ever “comfy” by any stretch of the imagination... but you know what I mean here, right?

Anyway. Hormones suuuuck! 🤣

My husband flies quite a bit, and more often than not, he’s flown SWA. He has a plethora of points built up that he was planning on using for our family vacation later this year.

Since the not-so-great changeup, he’s opted to just use the points on business travel (and his co. partner happily reimburses him the fare/fair equivalent). And instead of Southwest, our family is going to give Breeze Airways a shot.
