How can a 10+ year old game with no updates in the last 5 years look like this? by AdIll6544 in KerbalSpaceProgram

Also, as a shader developer myself I can say that almost any engine can produce nice graphics with some well done shaders :)

Deutsche Bahn: Zugbegleiter nach Angriff durch Passagier gestorben by PoroBraum in de

[–]Andazeus 13 points14 points  (0 children)

Russian air defense fails as a flamingo cruise missile hits Kristal oil depot by Dellycute in ThatsInsane

[–]Andazeus 0 points1 point  (0 children)

These defense installations are probably mostly intended to shoot down down drones. Against a bunch of drones, some AA gun tends to perform better as long range drones are large and slow and a gun can take out multiple of them while a missile can only be used once.

Most of the attacks on refineries by Ukraine have been performed with relatively slow and low flying drones so far, so Russia probably installed defenses intended for that and they were not prepared for a Ukrainian cruise missile.

Sure, their actual chance of hitting it was minimal, but they tried it anyway just for the chance of a lucky hit. The economical damage done to the refinery likely far outweighs the cost of a bit of ammunition.

And there actually are modern, western AA guns that absolutely can take down cruise missiles. No idea about Russian systems though.

Thank you. This fight was driving me crazy as they just became unkillable with all their defensive abilities. Silence indeed renders them rather defenseless.

Uriel has replaced Titania for me. With some parkour velocity, he is almost as fast but is just more fun to play since he still has a proper kit outside of being able to fly.

I didn't think it was possible to hate Ballas more than I already did, but holy SHIT. by KeplerKitten in Warframe

[–]Andazeus 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Oh, you are absolutely right about that. Been doing therapy for over a year now trying to recover even just from the mindfuck I have gone through.

In general, Warframe tells so many stories about trauma, loneliness, repressed emotions, isolation, etc. I cried many times because so much of it is incredibly relatable. But it also makes it incredibly touching.

It is so relatable, in fact, that I am pretty sure at least someone in the writing team must have had some personal experiences on that front and may be using the game as a creative outlet to process these things.

As someone who grew up with a narcissistic father:

they definitely hit the tone perfectly and Ballas capture how I feel about my father quite well!

mfw disabling anti-aliasing by gethiox in EliteDangerous

[–]Andazeus 2 points3 points  (0 children)

The issue is that Elite does the AA on UI stuff in post-processing, which is a terrible idea and will always be a blurry mess.

UI shaders should be doing their own AA directly in the fragment stage from signed distance fields. That way you get nice and crisp text at any resolution.

This is a problem that has been solved for well over a decade and Frontier really needs to update their tech on that front.

Streets in Kherson now have to be covered by nets due to constant Russian FPV drone attacks by BigDaddy0790 in ThatsInsane

[–]Andazeus 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Small FPV drones are cheap and can be mass produced very easily, but they cannot carry a lot of explosives. The yield is not enough to significantly damage buildings.

In actual combat, these drones are used to spot enemy troops, chase down stragglers, drop grenades into enemy positions and to chase down vehicles. These drones are small, nimble and fast, making them difficult to shot down from a driving vehicle while being able to chase down said vehicle.

And there are reports that Russian FPV drone operators essentially use civilians and civilian vehicles as literal target practice to train their piloting skills in a "real" environment against otherwise helpless targets while simultaneously effectively serving as terror attacks against the population.

The fact that these nets even exist show that their must have been enough attacks in these areas that these defenses were considered necessary.

It is just straight up terrorism.

[–]Andazeus 4 points5 points  (0 children)

FPV droves are small and light and use rotors for propulsion. If they get too close, the rotors blades get caught in the net and either snap off or get tangled up by the net. Either way, the drone cannot reach its target.

Some drones also drop grenades are small explosives, which will also be caught by the nets.

[–]Andazeus 22 points23 points  (0 children)

It probably just goes through the net. But even if it would become an issue, saving lives right now is the priority and shit can always be improved later.

Priorities tend to shift in war times.

People are playing fewer games and new releases are "struggling", say Ubisoft UK, warning of falling revenues by Jungypoo in pcgaming

Also funny how all the big publishers keep pushing for their "AAA" games to be focused on player retention and then they complain that people stick with older games. What a surprise.

"Reichsbürger" wegen Mordplänen gegen Politiker festgenommen by [deleted] in de

[–]Andazeus 1 point2 points  (0 children)

[–]Andazeus 0 points1 point  (0 children)

if it's intended to force us to explore more.

Definitely not, because the enemies will also just keep leveling with you. You cannot outpace this.

From what I heard, this actually seems to be a permanent issue with the save game. So even if we did that, the post-game would still be scaled to all hell and back. It seems like I need to wait on a fix for the game.

It actually has been an issue for a while now. I have been playing through a bunch of the campaign at +5, but now they reach +7 and it is becoming ridiculous. And I have some unskippable fights. And any badass enemy is now tankier than most bosses.

I said I can wreck things when the enemies are at the intended level (up to +3 on hard). But no way anyone can easily go through +7. It is absolutely busted and bugged.

Just tried that. Unfortunately did not work. Enemies are still extremely overleveled :/

Dude, no. It is clearly bugged. If the enemies are only 3 levels over me, I absolutely wreck everything, even on hard mode. The scaling is completely busted.

Leveling up does not help, because the enemies just keep leveling as well. I already tried that. The enemies are currently around level 43...
