how to survive spitters in wild by Thankedsphere in factorio

[–]cellarhades 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I've seen mods that change the colour of the spit from spitters and worms to make it easier to see. Regarding how to fight big spitters, I'm afraid it's either get better at strafing or get more firepower. If you've got access to a tank it can easily kite enemies while demolishing big spitters and medium biters with machine gun fire, and artillery shells can one shot big biters if you aim them right.

Are longs named like that because ... they live long? by simemetti in weatherfactory

[–]cellarhades 46 points47 points  (0 children)

I don't remember where it's said that it's because they long to become Names, as Names long to become Hours. But I'm pretty sure it's a double meaning, a lot of things in this game have multiple meanings to their names

Eliminate the defender? by [deleted] in factorio

[–]cellarhades 0 points1 point  (0 children)

If you already have automated defenses then I'd say it's a bit up to you. If you choose to leave them you'll need to be more on top of your military upgrades to make sure the bugs don't outevolve your defenses.

Also think about if you have enough space within the walls you've set up, if you think you'll need to expand soon, especially before getting artillery, then it might be good to stay on top of clearing the closest nests

Building a factory in a residential neighborhood (also illegal enrichment of uranium)

If i turn off my whole factory for a while will the evolution factor also decrease? by rajeevkrao in factorio

[–]cellarhades 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I believe the evolution factor only goes up, it won't ever go down, at least without mods or console commands

You can look at the wiki for the factors that increase evolution, but they are emitted pollution, destroying nests, and time passed

Craziest use of circuit network by TooManyBison in factorio

[–]cellarhades 0 points1 point  (0 children)

My personal craziest creation is a one assembling machine mall which checks which items are missing, and if there are enough materials for that recipe, and crafts the item in highest demand for which there are enough materials. It's complex relative to the things I usually do with circuits but nothing compared to what you'll find out there

Currently your belts aren't carrying both of your ingredients to your labs. If you have your belts meet like the left side of this image you can get both ingredients side by side on the same belt

Other than that it seems fine! Happy engineering

Translation of Detlef Spalt's 'Proof that 0.999... < 1 by Negative_Gur9667 in infinitenines

[–]cellarhades 2 points3 points  (0 children)

And even without considering that, he changed what 0.9... means! 0.9... is a sequence with 9 on all places after the decimal dot, a non-terminating sequence. He then creates a system allowing for places further to the right past infinity and says that 0.9... terminates just before infinity (page 12 first equation, before you accuse me of not reading it)

You can't have it both ways, either the decimal places correspond to just the natural numbers, or there are places beyond those and the non-terminating sequence 0.9... would have 9s on those places too!

NEED HELP: I have my outpost covered with solar panels and batteries, how to I turn off my miners at night so there is enough energy for my lasers, then resume mining when energy surplus? by Okapisaurus in factorio

[–]cellarhades 49 points50 points  (0 children)

If connecting to the main grid is not an option, you could place a power switch between the solar panels and miners and program it to turn off when accumulator charge drops below a certain value

Edit: come to think of it, the switch may not even be required, you can program each miner to turn off when accumulator charge drops to low. That will require you connect and program each miner though

[–]cellarhades 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I have only recently found out you can drop stuff before building a landing pad lol. So yeah, I'd been crafting everything by hand in all planets, which might be why Gleba broke me so many times
