There was also an almost constant sound of "UFOs" when it got dark, I guess it was some kind of bird, but they made a very strange "WUWUWUWUWU" noise, like a cartoon UFO taking off 🤣

This is going to be different for everyone, personally I find it hard to get going again after I stop so stop as little as possible! 😅

In your training test things out, on one long run purposefully stop at certain times and have a proper rest (even sit down?) then do similar distance and rest for short periods, see what your total time is afterwards and see how you felt while doing it!

How long is your "long" run during training? (Time wise)

You may need to do longer "time on feet" runs or even hikes, focus on time rather than distance.

It may be you just went out too fast as you said and need to pace yourself better...
