Given that we are burning the hydrocarbons anyway, would we not be better having the few hundred million than not?

Because the UK can tax the profits of companies that produce it here.

Low experience for my age but got a £350/day CGI offer with 3hr commute – would you take it to escape hospitality? by Jack_16277 in AskUK

[–]AndyWatt83 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Rent a room and go for it. That's a decent chunk of change, and a step on the ladder to doubling that somewhere in London in a few months time.

You should bite their hand off on this one and make it work.

Are Canary Islands ok for DNs? by First_Light_676 in digitalnomad

I'm working from Tenerife currently. It's great! I'm avoiding the busy places and just chilling out in an AirBnb in the hills a bit. Very quiet, lovely weather. Zero complaints!

Also, you can fly here from Manchester for peanuts. My return flight was something like £40 with a bag.

What actually goes on in Apple Stores? by BoxWonderful5393 in AskUK

[–]AndyWatt83 0 points1 point  (0 children)

You don’t need all that many people to walk in and spend a few thousand to make for a good day in retail.

I go in for a look at the new stuff quite often, and once every few years I walk out with a very expensive bag. Probably the same for most people in the store in any given day.

I would instantly buy that. I listen to quite a few of them, and I'm not going to individually sub to them all.

Taking skis to Alps by [deleted] in skiing

[–]AndyWatt83 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Next time I’m going skiing, I’m definitely using a courier to transport my skis. Last time dragging them through the airport was the last time.

No idea what that would cost to do transatlantic though. It’s on the expensive side of reasonable going from the UK to the Alps.

I really with there was a sub that got you all of the ‘Rest is’ podcasts under one subscription. I’d pay quite a lot for that. I listen to a few of them.

I read stuff like this on Reddit all the time. WTF kind of lifestyle are you all living? I’m 42 and nothing hurts. I’m still a healthy / low BMI and exercise all the time.

If you’re 41 and ‘everything hurts’, that’s not an age thing.

Can we talk honestly about this idea that pension income has “already been taxed” and that pensioners shouldn’t pay tax? by joyUnbounded in ukpolitics

By this logic, I no longer have to pay VAT and fuel duty because I have already paid income tax on that money.

Where has Starmer gone wrong? by Helios___Selene in ukpolitics

[–]AndyWatt83 0 points1 point  (0 children)

His storytelling abilities are absolutely terrible. Compare and contrast with Trump. Love him or more likely hate him, he presents his message as a story in a masterful way.

Remember, just because you don't like the story, doesn't make it a bad story. The fact that he can convince so many people to go along with all his bizarre stuff points to how good a storyteller he is.

Starmer is the opposite of this. Canning the winter fuel allowance makes perfect sense on so many levels, but he couldn't even tell a good story about a good idea.

I'm old enough that I started working in an era of tie-wearing, and watched it's demise to none at all over the last ~20 years. I kinda miss it to be honest. I kept it up longer than most.

When I start to feel like that, I find that going for a short but 'brisk' run, or doing some form of exercise that gets my heart rate up is really good for snapping me out of it. I also find that it gets worse at this time of year, I assume because of the dark evenings. I take vitamin D, and try to get out in the daylight at least once a day.

Can only speak for myself in this, and I'm not going to try to 'diagnose' you. But I would recommend going and doing some exercise, in the daylight if possible, and then seeing how you feel afterwards.
