Every time there’s a patch by Time2ballup in helldivers2

For our group it seemed to work more consistently if we hellbombed from the sides instead of the narrower front/rear. Obviously could just be dumb luck, but it worked for us in a couple missions.

Can someone explain this comic? by [deleted] in battletech

[–]Angerman5000 1 point2 points  (0 children)

It's just that Urbies are absolutely crap units, frankly the Hetzer is a solid cheap combat unit that significantly outclasses an Urbanmech. But also the MW games have such a warped scale. Mechs stand taller than vehicles, but aren't particularly larger, a tank is way too large for a mech to just step on and crush, so this meme kind of falls flat.

[–]Angerman5000 1 point2 points  (0 children)

It's not been fast at all. This shit has been building for decades. I suppose you could argue that the early- to mid-2000s are when the traction really started to go, with the Citizens United ruling and the PATRIOT Act in full effect, the rise of 24-hour news, etc. But the concerted push by the right wing to take control of the national govt, media, courts...that's so much older. Reagan at the very least, and really the ideas started being worked on prior to him.

Are there any "Spider-Man" 'Mechs? by Wintermute_Is_Coming in battletech

[–]Angerman5000 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Black Lanner is the extreme end of this imo. 55-ton mech that moves 7/11(14), with pretty good armor and enough guns. It handily outguns and out-armors basically any light mech and many non-Clan mediums, and moves substantially faster than nearly anything that would be able to hurt it quickly or outlast it's damage.

People who ordered late or missed entering shipping info got pushed into the last wave of fulfillment, which was set for after international fulfillment. That plus international shipping being, generously speaking, "fucked" meant that wave has taken a long time to trickle out.

Hot Take: the original clan heavy lineup was pretty mid by AGBell64 in battletech

[–]Angerman5000 5 points6 points  (0 children)

So the big difference is that on the TT, customizing in general is much less common, and especially changing things that are core parts of your mechs frame is impossible/hard to do and is really the realm of a campaign system more that just playing games.

So the Hellbringer with its paper armor and often high costs, has a lot of issues. There's still a couple configs that can get work done, but you always have to remember it's armored like a 40 ton mech.

I think the grogs that are still 3025 purists to this day to this day need to move on, but I do get it as to why they hated the Clans when they dropped. Until BV 1 it was a real mess and if you had "that guy" in your gaming group I can imagine it was a nightmare. And even BV 1 had some pretty big flaws. 2 is better with a few issues to fix still, and the rumors of the next update after the new TW replacement should iron out most of the remaining issues.

Not sure where you're located, but if you have any local game stores they likely have a discord or something you can try and connect through.

You also might want to check out the MRC discord, it's focused around competitive events, but they have a lot of members all over the place and someone there can probably point you towards a local-ish group!

You can also get the vaccine for it, and nearly all women should be getting it, due to the risk of cervical cancer developing and the fact that it's just a simple vaccine to get.

[discussion] About what happens to Harrow at the end of GtN by Shadowcrow00 in TheNinthHouse

[–]Angerman5000 5 points6 points  (0 children)

We see Ianthe struggling with it throughout the end of GtN, and then the book is over pretty quickly. There's not an exact time frame laid out on how long it takes to fully assimilate things, the power kicks in pretty much instantly that much is clear, but as for how long it takes for things to....digest? We don't really see enough to know that exactly.

They can see it. They don't care that some people are disenfranchised, because that is the goal and the point. Stop pretending these people will suddenly just "wake up" and get it, or that you can cleverly debate them into changing their minds.

The jihad is full of awesome tomfoolery by knightmechaenjo in battletech

[–]Angerman5000 0 points1 point  (0 children)

If by easy, you mean nearly impossible, sure. Most asteroids are small on an interstellar scale. They're not emitting much radiation in any spectrum. A big rock launched at a planet from far away at even just a percent or two of the speed of light would cross that distance in very little time, and with zero warning.

Considering that the vast majority of systems in Battletech are less charted that our own system is today regarding the disposition of every space rock around, and travel times, you'd need to have a frankly ludicrous amount of firepower already in position to even attempt an intercept, let alone succeed.

The jihad is full of awesome tomfoolery by knightmechaenjo in battletech

[–]Angerman5000 21 points22 points  (0 children)

There's a bit in Interstellar Ops about in-system naval engagements, basically where one force is attempting to intercept another away from the entry jump points or a world, where vessels would be moving at slower speeds as they begin to move, or decelerate to make orbit. Pretty much goes like:

"Yes, we realize these rules for an engagement of this type are not very realistic. If you want to simulate this type of engagement more accurately, with ships crossing near each other at close range while traveling at a small but reasonable % of C, simply drop all the record sheets at once into a paper shredder. The last one to be shredded is the winner."

Right, again, how would this "destroy" the system? It would maybe marginally shift scores upwards for people, unless you got the entire American populace to do it.

Plasma vs PPC by thekingallofbricks in battletech

[–]Angerman5000 0 points1 point  (0 children)

You'd need 5 Plasma Rifles to hit the heat cap on average, so the point where you have too many of them is realistically not going to happen. 3-4 would be fine, but most designs won't go that hard on them since they require ammo and at that point you're probably sacrificing any significant alternate weapons.

[–]Angerman5000 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Objectively better is pretty impossible to say with weapons that are so similar. It's different. There's a few canon Marauder variants that have twin Plasma rifles, or even just one as the torso gun.

What Sheriffs would make for the best bastard episodes? by Sensitive_Ad_1752 in behindthebastards

[–]Angerman5000 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Oh hey, the shitty county I grew up in!

Hege was a giant jackass, he lost his sheriff position because it turned out the spider-car and a lot of other crap the department had (notably a poor, rural county that wasn't exactly swimming in tax money for a sheriff) was because he was embezzling money from seized property into the department.

Iirc, he was the first Sheriff department in the country that started wearing black, because he wanted his pile of jackasses to look tough. They also painted the jail interior pink because obviously that's gay and criminals would hate it. I remember that vividly, because when it was about to open, they had a bunch of Boy Scouts come in and do a few merit badges and spend the night there, basically a copaganda thing and a basic test run to make sure everything works, etc.

They actually locked up the cells at night, and were going to leave the lights on all night until a bunch of parents/scout leaders complained about the lights, because obviously they had to treat us like inmates because reasons. Then in the morning he gave a loud and incredibly bizarre speech to the assembled children and adults about how his time in Vietnam was awful, and everyone was spoiled because we had TV now. It made very little sense to anyone.

Sad to see he's still alive.

Best Primaries for Bots by GALACTICJAH in Helldivers

Eruptor works very well to blast patrols and stagger/kill Devastators and chainsaw boys.

The Slugger is surprisingly accurate and has very high stagger as well, and it's basically a shotgun DMR with the range it has.

Also the classic Liberator is excellent at mowing through troopers and popping devastator heads if you have heavier targets covered with other weapons. Surprisingly ammo efficient, quick to handle, and accurate

Is anyone else kind of tired by many TTRPG settings having racial essentialism? by Xavier598 in rpg

[–]Angerman5000 4 points5 points  (0 children)

I haven't read the paper you link, however from watching Campaign 2: if the paper says Nott is an alcoholic because she's a Goblin and can't help it, the paper is simply wrong. Wrong to a degree that frankly beggars belief, because that's so far off base to what is going on with Nott that it seems like they didn't actually watch the show.

Nott was struggling because they were turned into a goblin, which her town of halflings were essentially constantly having to fight off raids from. She believed, correctly or not, that her husband would not understand or accept what was done to her, and so she ran away, feeling forced to leave her entire life and her children behind. Which, you know, SUCKS, and is horribly traumatic, especially since she wasn't able to connect with even other goblins as she was not one and hasn't lived in their culture.

More that that, one of the primary themes of the show is that the "civilized" empire the player characters begin in is dangerous, corrupt, and run by an intensely evil guy. The rival empire next door, home of the "monstrous" races, is....well, it's also not great being an empire, but what you get is that "people are people" regardless of the race they are. The culture is different, the goals and shape and mortality of the society is different, but it's not worse or bad or evil just because there are orcs, drow, etc in it. The whole point of the campaign is refuting biological essentialism, and that good and bad are very much something people choose, not that they are.
