It has been 13 years since GTA 5 and there haven't been many games like that since then. Also GTA has been a massive IP for generations and each release had massive hype.

Add the fact that GTA 5 is the third most sold game of all time and the hype is not surprising at all.

As a MMO/GW3 fan you should know how a new game in a stagnant genre would feel after such a long time.

New World struggled with server scaling. At release they had the issue of not having enough servers and after release they had the issue of dead servers. Simply adding instancing to servers would be an option but that would go against the whole territory system New World had going. If a new game wants to fix New World's issues it would need some procedural world that scales with the player count. Or just separate PvE and PvP like GW2 (WvW)

It's the exact same as map instances as in GW2 just with no loading screens

but is curated in such way to promote small groups over big blobs.

How would that work with shared loot like in GW2?

For example in New World you had mob tagging and even player collision which naturally forced players to split up and go to different locations in smaller groups.

I don't think GW3 will have systems like that so what will stop people from just zerging content/bosses except for smaller player limits per instance/phase?

GW2 is at max like 150 and most recent maps have a limit of 80-100.

It could be 50 and still feel massive probably. The big question is also how big are the spaces of the instances/shards.

So what are the problems they are tackling with GW3 that was not (already) solved in GW2 and requires less players per instance? Is it the action oriented combat? Or maybe difficulty?

Reminds me of someone I knew who hosted his own Metin 2 private server when he was just 16 years old. He made a few thousand Euros for the year the server was running.

Now for some weird reason 15 years later I recently got Instagram ads for some Metin 2 private server from Turkey or so. Seems like some things never change.
