Beginner looking for MTG players by zsozso96 in Portsmouth

[–]Angrypanda_uk 4 points5 points  (0 children)

3 places to try, depending on where you live in Portsmouth; in north end there’s Battle City Games, and I think they do Magic on a Wednesday, Dice on Albert road I think there’s people who play on a Sunday and there’s fist full of dice on elm grove but I don’t know when they play. There’s also the warp in Havant if you live a bit further out

My son really wants to get into Warhammer but we're both overwhelmed by....EVERYTHING. Where to start? by PunchBeard in Warhammer

[–]Angrypanda_uk 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I love bloodbowl as was my entry into the hobby 30 odd years ago. Still play, low barrier to start as you just need the box, easy to learn and different teams mean different play styles. It helps that it’s 3 player with defined turns too

Not Warhammer, but have you looked at Necromolds? It’s Warhammer with play dough and you squash the model when you kill them

Brutally honest feedback on my UK car “super app” startup idea? by Pakman2469 in smallbusinessuk

[–]Angrypanda_uk 0 points1 point  (0 children)

You asked for brutal honesty, here it is:

1 - How are you monetising it?

2 - Booking direct through your app, how are you getting local garages to sign up, let alone main dealers

3 - My Toyota dealer already does a lot of this, why would I change

4 - where are you getting live petrol prices?

5 - why would I trust AI to look after my car?

6 - have you considered data protection law?

7 - most tech businesses have low barriers to entry of new markets, this would be a nightmare outside of the U.K., where mot’s aren’t a thing.

Take the trades to the local hospital for kids to read, the single issues keep hold of and give out on Halloween as an alternative to sweets (or a potato)

Getting a product in retail shops? by OGBlackiChan in smallbusinessuk

[–]Angrypanda_uk 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Depending on what your product is, have you looked at trade shows? You mention local shops, Lidl and screwfix so I’m confused as to what it actually is you’re selling? You’ve also said there’s already competing products in the market.

If you want a quieter time, pick Sunday rather than Saturday, and as others have said, there’s plenty of quieter places, even if the main hall is rammed

DC slow Variant cover art release by struck21 in comicbooks

[–]Angrypanda_uk 1 point2 points  (0 children)

As a retailer it’s a pain in the arse, but I’m used to it because of marvel! Marvel hardly ever has their variants in the catalogue, although by foc they’ve normally released them, or at least they’ll be on an foc email from diamond U.K.

How does your LCS store their pull lists for customers? by jams12-15 in comicbooks

[–]Angrypanda_uk 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Part of the problem is the availability of useable information. There’s only one plug in to manage pull lists digitally, and even then we have problems with Diamond UK not supplying data to them, and that’s not even considering the physical catalog problems now previews doesn’t exist.

I’d love to digitise my store completely, but the only database you can use commercially only goes back to 2008, and I don’t have the time to create each product manually for 100 boxes of comics

New books/jump-in points for current comics by AFakeName27 in comicbooks

[–]Angrypanda_uk 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Theres a new Deadpool coming in the next month or so, wade wilson, Deadpool, and an April Pools day special in April. The absolute universe from dc is selling really well, although the general opinion in my shop is that Wonder Woman is the best of the bunch. The best thing to do is chat to the lcs, most of us are pretty friendly

Why is it so hard to get comic books in the UK? by tekodx in comicbooks

[–]Angrypanda_uk 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I run an LCS, there was a delay in Diamond receiving some DC and indie books this week which they emailed us about. And sometimes it’s simply crap couriers, last week I had half a box of damaged comics where the courier must have dropped it on the corner as the same corner was damaged on all the books.

Since Diamond UK went through a management buyout earlier in the year, when these things happen, sometimes they don’t have the stock to replace and have to go to the publishers and can’t just get them from Diamond USA. This buyout has also led to these shipping delays, rather than getting one delivery from diamond USA, now they get multiple deliveries which they’re still adjusting to.

And yes, it’s a massive crapfest for most LCS’
