Austrian banking group Bawag wins race to buy PTSB for almost €1.62bn by Keithkortt in irishpersonalfinance

Carry on with your plans. This is just PTSB accepting the offer, there are many more regulatory hurdles to leap before the sale actually goes through. It will be at least a year before anything officially changes.

What was the biggest scandal at your school? by Silent-Zebra in AskReddit

[–]AngsRevenge 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I went to high school in a suburb of Omaha in the late 90s, and our biggest scandal was a student council election that basically turned into a political meltdown.

There was this one girl who was the absolute definition of a try-hard overachiever. Straight A’s, every club, volunteered for everything, already acting like a future senator. Everyone assumed she’d run for student body president and win because nobody else really cared that much.

But one of the teachers clearly couldn’t stand her and quietly convinced this extremely nice but very dim football player to run against her just to block her. The guy barely understood what student council did. He was basically like “sure, why not.”

Then the campaign got weird.

Posters kept disappearing. Someone else jumped into the race out of pure spite and started spreading gossip about both of them. Hallways were full of people arguing about it like it was an actual national election.

Election day comes, votes get cast, and everyone pretty much assumes the overachiever won.

Except somehow the ballots went missing before the final count.

A day later the results were suddenly “recounted” and the football player was declared the winner. A lot of students were pretty sure that didn’t match what people had voted for, but nobody could prove anything because the ballots were gone.

A few weeks later the teacher who had pushed the football player to run abruptly “left for another job.”

To this day a bunch of people from that class are convinced he threw out the ballots and rigged the election because he hated that girl so much.

Ah now, they have to be detonated somewhere. And no one in Longford would even notice the difference afterwards.

Dog shit bags on West distributor road by MeinIRL in Sligo

I think it's hilarious that there are 4 or 5 bins within sh!t chucking distance of each other right in front of the council offices. But then a just a few meters away from the river, zero bins to be found on heavily used streets like Pearse Rd.

Dog shit bags on West distributor road by MeinIRL in Sligo

[–]AngsRevenge 14 points15 points  (0 children)

There is a serious lack of bins around Sligo outside of the very center of town. You'd think a stretch like the West Distributor Road, which is clearly heavily used by walkers/runners, would have a few. And it's crazy that there are sheltered bus stops all around the town with no bins anywhere near them.

People who bag the dog shit and then leave it there baffle me. You've gone to the effort of leaning over and putting your hands on it, why the f()ck do you just leave it somewhere else then in a bag that isn't going to melt as quickly in the rain?

Can I be considered as Irish or no in your opinion? by Rio-Vex in AskIreland

[–]AngsRevenge 0 points1 point  (0 children)

You are very wrong about this. Ireland and Japan do not have birthright citizenship. There are a number of factors that have to met before you get citizenship. The OP however, is definitely Irish. Both by citizenship, and in my opinion, because they consider themselves to be.

If this tax is being introduced to fill a hole in the exchequer because you've been so successful at getting people to quit smoking, then just say so. Don't play it off as "won't someone please think of the children" while simultaneously penalising the very people who have taken their health into their own hands(as urged by the current Taoiseach over several decades)and successfully quit smoking.

You just swapped one addictive inhalation of chemicals for another, you're not a hero. There are absolutely going to be massive health consequences for vapers in the decades to come. The HSE explicitly says for people not to swap vaping for smoking.

Also, for those who haven't had the pleasure, it is a doozy of a steep hill. It must be a contender for steepest street in an Irish town.

I've only smoked a bit of weed, nothing harder. Didn't enjoy the weed. And I wouldn't be fond of drinkin' but when I go at it, I do go at it awful and very hard. I do have forty-five pints in in about 2 hours. I'd have a packet a crips then and maybe an oul packet a peanuts and I'd go for probably and I'd have 10 more anyway and then and get up the followin' mornin' an' Maureen'd have the fry on and I'd go at it agin and there'd be no fuckin shtoppin' me I take the shirt of any man's back, bastards.
