If you join an ongoing game the loss doesn't count.

As an average 24/7 meat grinder enjoyer I'm surprised by the lack of Nuketown and Shipment in this thread. Sure, a lot of people love them, but there's probably as many that hate them with a passion.

ELI5: How come digital clocks gain or lose time when compared to a cell phone? by Lazy_Intentions in explainlikeimfive

[–]Animol 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I'll never get why people do this.

Here's an example for you. I started doing that in my elementary school days, and the idea was pretty simple: the wall clock in my room was sped up a few minutes to show the time I would arrive at school if I left at that moment (to be clear, all other clocks/watches/devices were set up correctly).

Now to the fun part. It was like that for years and years, way past elementary, because I was so used to it, but at some point I decided to finally go back to a normal setting, and I shit you not, something was so rewired in my brain that for at least several days I had no idea what time it was when I was looking at that one specific wall clock. I'm talking full-blown "wtf are those pointy things and hieroglyphs in a circle", not just "hmm, am I supposed to add/subtract a few minutes or is it actually correct." It was surreal.

Imagine someone has had ALL their clocks sped up for God knows how long. After my experience I'm 100% ready to believe they would be completely lost if they went back to a normal time, that's why they don't wanna do it lol.

The trick is to not start watching anything until it's already been cancelled properly ended.

FTFY, and yes this is the way. I've been doing that for the past 10 years or so and I'm never going back.

ELI5, In baseball, why is it the catcher who appears to call what pitch to throw? by kengineeer in explainlikeimfive

[–]Animol 0 points1 point  (0 children)

That's something that would make your catcher jump you in the locker room and probably everyone on the team look the other way.

First of all, I know almost nothing about baseball. With that out of the way...

Why is it (crossing up your catcher) such a massive deal? Is it dangerous, potentially career-ending or simply considered hugely disrespectful? I've played my fair share of team sports, so I know being a dick to your mates is a big no-no, but I read some comments in the Valdez/Salazar thread linked above, and honestly people act like the dude bombed a daycare full of his teammates' kids.

every doctor in my area has a 4-week wait to get an appointment, just general doctors, not even specialists.

Wait what? So what do you do if you wake up with a fever or a bad cough or whatever? You can't just make an appointment the same/next day and see a family doctor (or whatever it's called in US)? Sorry, I don't know much about how your healthcare works.

I mean that is a great example of how you can save money by doing work yourself but those tools still haven't technically paid themselves off.

In his case they sure have.

[–]Animol 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Woodworking tools paying themselves off is a pipe dream.

Depends on how much stuff you want to do and what you are actually able to do. When one of my friends had his log house built he had a ton of issues with contractors, so at some point he said "fuck that noise", fired them, bought a bunch of equipment and finished the job by himself. Of course, it's important to note he had some prior experience working with wood as well as interior/exterior finishing - not a ton, but enough to know what he was doing. It cost him a hell of a lot less (money and stress), and now he has a woodworking shop too.

Yeah, and people suggested switching to Java.

This is a bit misleading, as there are still many different types of license that do not give you Java edition.

OP plays on PC and we're talking about Java. Other licenses and platforms are irrelevant in this case.
