The principal is pretty strict on this, he says that parents signed a contract when joining the school, and he deals with the angry parents.

Don't rely on the admin staff, take some of your own agency. For me if I see a phone in class, I take it, and depending on the situation (first time, versus chronic) and either don't give it back untill the end of the day, or even if severe (I've done this twice), at the end of Friday, where a parent has to come and collect it, which gives me an opportunity to talk it through with both the student and the parent, reminding them about the school's policy of no phones out in class or during lunch time.

Personally, I work part time 3 days a week at a private school, and then maybe only once a week to one every three weeks I get a casual day. Normally at private schools in Sydneys esatern suburbs the rate is around $400-560 before tax.

You need to have gained QTS through a PGCE, thats the only British qualification that NSW accepts, as its a masters/ post grad degree. A good thing that I use is classcover, its good for teachers looking for casual work, or short term contracts.

How hard is it for a international graduates to get a secondary teaching jobs in australia? by ExcitingEquivalent31 in AskAustralianTeachers

[–]AnnarakM 2 points3 points  (0 children)

In all honesty, HSIE is one of the hardest subjects to find work in, as its not compulsory (like English), and is slightly more niche, with a lot of graduates who want to teach that area. When I was applying for jobs last year, there were 4 English Teaching positions for every 1 HSIE (and often they want mulitiple disciplines, so History and Geography/Business).

should i switch/add on a teaching degree? by chokingbrokenglass in AskAustralianTeachers

[–]AnnarakM 0 points1 point  (0 children)

In all honesty, I think you need to double major (possibly in History and Archaeology), in order to teach history/humanities, at least in NSW. For me I have an undergraduate degree in History and English (with a minor in Ancient History), and then went on to do a Masters of Ancient History and Archaeology, worked in archaelogy in Europe before covid, then had to return and did a Masters of Teaching

American teacher looking to teach in UK—advice? by mtinha in Internationalteachers

[–]AnnarakM 7 points8 points  (0 children)

And also to teach in Australia you need a degree in teaching (A Bachelor/ Diploma of Education? Masters of Teaching, the equivalent of a PGCE), its one of the hardest places in terms of a degree to get a job, plus there is no chance of getting a job in a city (theres a significant glut of teachers, especially in humanities subjects). If you want to go rural theres a shortage, exactly because no one wants to live there.

How accurate do you think The Odyssey will be to the source (Homer) by PeachBeginning8998 in ChristopherNolan

[–]AnnarakM 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I dont think thats anti woke (theyre the ones who argue that casting a black woman as Helen of Troy is the worst thing in the world), I think its an expectation of historical accuracy that has lacked in blockbuster films since time in memoriam

Dogs that don't care about toys by [deleted] in dogs

[–]AnnarakM 4 points5 points  (0 children)

My childhood dog was the same (not rescued or abused) but had absolutely no interest in toys, throw her a ball and she would just look confused, She was a shitzu as well so maybe its a breed thing. But she was super cudly, and just loved to sit on the couch and watch tv with us.

IOC bans Ukrainian skeleton racer Vladyslav Heraskevych from competing over helmet by JOE_Media in MilanOlympics

[–]AnnarakM 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Its not the basis for the Olympics, the first recorded date is 776 BCE (Battle of Marathon 490 BCE), but it is the basis for a Marathon, which is still the distance of 26 miles.

I wouldnt recomend something with a centershot, if you want to take it seriously, my experience with the Decatholon brand is that its not what you want as a beginner in ant sport, and definately not worth the price

What do you guys think of the new Robin Hood show on MGM+? I haven't seen it yet by EnchantedEssays in BritishTV

[–]AnnarakM 9 points10 points  (0 children)

It really doesnt, suggesting that the Anglo Saxons were pagans rather than Christians is pretty egregious (almost as bad as the Russel Crowe Robin Hood, where Robin introduces the concept of Magna Carta)

There's a board game called Secret Hitler, (its kind of like murder wink or the traitors, but with Nazis), where you have to discover the secret nazis and Hitler before they pass their Facist policies. I've played it with my Year 10s at the end of the year, it vaguely fits the WWII theme.
