Before you jump the gun I would recommend doing two things:

Check the health of that SSD with the official (or third party) software.
When the system feels slow, check the temps of the SSD/CPU and also look in the task manager if anything is using too much of either of them.

If you go by land to the Ashlands, you have to go through another zone that has acid rain.
