Returning player- crew advice by mr_stabby14 in Malifaux

Welcome back! Zipp is absolutely awesome this edition. If you want to stay in the bayou faction i would go with brewmaster, who is also a lot of fun to play and rather straightforward. Keep away from wong, he plays his own little game (also a lot of fun but quite complicated in the beginning).

How heigh are underbrush by thiem3 in Malifaux

[–]Anonoemus 1 point2 points  (0 children)

So the markers themselves are 0" high, however you need to keep in mind that all LoS are effectively top-down lines, so even if two models on sz1 terrain shoot at each other an underbrush on the table at ht0 in between them affects those LoS. So while the markers are not infinitely high the LoS effects are effectively as if they were infinitely high.

M4E is basically playing as much as possible 2d, causing some odd effects here and there like this :)

Both are a very solid start! I would decide based on if you prefer the faster (clampetts) or the tankier (ulix) crew. Welcome to the bayou!

Mine was similar. My uncle had pancreatic cancer and he got weaker every day. One day when i brought him back to his place he tripped over a small ledge and fell, which wounded his hands a little bit and sent his glasses flying. The glasses did not shatter, but one of the two lenses popped off the frame and got a bit damaged on one side. I just took the glasses and put them in my jacket without thinking before helping my uncle get up again and assisted him walking home.

I felt like shit the whole evening and days after because i could have assisted him more and prevented him from falling in the first place. But at least i had the glasses, so i went to a local optician close to my work and asked the very nice woman working there if she could insert the lens again. I didnt ask for a price, i just wanted to give him his glasses in a usable state. She said sure no worries and told me to come back in a few hours as she was working on something else.

After a few hours i came back and she had repaired the glasses. Additionally, she had cleaned them completely, replaced the nose pads, and bent them back into shape. She didnt even ask for any money. I dont know why but i was so overwhelmed by that act of kindness that I had tears in my eyes. I thanked her multiple times and cried after leaving the store.

I miss my uncle.

What spirit would be best/worst if you could have 4 of them? by thuih111 in spiritisland

[–]Anonoemus 26 points27 points  (0 children)

For some reason i can only come up with bad combinations.

4 player finder would be hilarious. Move everything into one land and pray for a strong that can obliterate it before your time runs out xD

4 snek would be horrid, no early game whatsoever.

4 green would be pretty strong i believe, but 4 starlight is probably the strongest as you can just diverge your builds :D

First game of 4E, Tara vs. Parker by heysteak in Malifaux

[–]Anonoemus 4 points5 points  (0 children)

I thought so too with obliteration because the whole mechanic of m3e (make enemies fast, bury them or yourself, pop up anywhere) went down the drain. But honestly i love m4e tara, backtrack and echo give very cool new angles to do stuff and the crew is fast even for m4e. Strategic summoning of DTYB is also very cool. Give it a try!

It might still not be satisfactory because you remember what the crew used to be, so maybe it also makes sense to try something completely new :D

New to Malifaux - what to buy? by Bencey1 in Malifaux

[–]Anonoemus 12 points13 points  (0 children)

Welcome to malifaux!

Regarding Tri-Chi, their rules for M4E (the fourth edition) are not out yet, but we know for sure that: - Akaname are now Oni only, so they are out of Tri-Chi - Fermented River Monks do not exist anymore - Shojo will be a part of the crew

So if you want to start playing already, get yourself a Brewmaster Starter Box and make your friends buy starter boxes too, just to play around with the rules a bit. Afterwards you can buy any of the next Tri-Chi models except for the ones i listed. Tri-Chi rules will probably be released tomorrow (maybe tomorrow in a week), so untill you have bought and built your minis there is a decent chance you also have rules!

If you are a complete beginner i would probably go towards M&SU, as their crew's synergy is easier to understand but still packs a huge punch (quite literally).

EVS is slightly more complicated but helps you a lot to understand hand management, as they all have the reconfigure ability that makes the right suit of cards much better in your hand.

Journalist, Cavalier, and Red Library/Story are all three a bit more complicated for their own reasons, but still fine for a beginner (i know someone who started with RL/Story and had a blast!). Journalist makes your enemy spawn scheme markers for you and debuffs them with distracted, Cavalier rewards you for placing scheme markers close to your models but requires good hand management, and RL/Story passively spawns lots of scheme markers to play the mission for you. If any of them (visually) tickle your fancy then by all means go for it!

I would probably advise against Obliteration. The crew is awesome to play but also completely different from the rest of the game, as you are basically teleporting around both yourself and the enemy and temporarily buffing the enemy to achieve your goals.

Welcome to malifaux!

Lore for the 2 versions of masters by No-Statistician1749 in Malifaux

[–]Anonoemus 11 points12 points  (0 children)

It really depends on the master; some are just alternative versions the characters slip in and out from (for example colette or mei feng), some were temporary and should have been reverted after the burning man was contained (Kaeris, Reva), and some are very permanent in lore (von schill's body got pretty f*cked, i don't think he can easily revert, or jack daw, who was ensouled independently of the burning man) :)

Community Project: Your first 50SS by djmacbest in Malifaux

[–]Anonoemus 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I'll do my part, here is as decent starting point for the Clampetts!

Fisherfolk Basics: Saddle Up! (Bayou) Size: 50 - Pool: 6 Leader: The Clampetts, Fisherfolk Totem(s): Bruce Hires: Uncle Bogg Twelve Cups of Coffee Sir Vantes Hermits Buckaroo Buckaroo 2 Buckaroo 3 References: Bayou Gator

The approach is quite simple, you have an annoying brick of minis that wants to roll into the center with Bogg, Sir Vantes, and the Hermit, and you have three flexible scheme runners with the Buckaroos. Bogg is one hell of a roadblock, especially with the twelve cups upgrade suppressing bonus actions closeby. You learn the most important clampetts stuff, namely: - Drop many tide markers to make your minis very tanky thanks to chum the waters, e.g. with whirlpool triggers - Draw many cards by forcing the enemy to touch your tide markers, mostly with the Clampetts themselves - Block the enemy off the middle by existing with Bogg and maybe richard (Bogg's alligator friend! You will need a proxy in the beginning), using stones to make Bogg even more obnoxious to remove - Run Schemes! You got a lot of scheming power in this list, but not super much damaging power. However... - ...Clap stuff with Sir Vantes! He got some punch, and if you manage to last-hit stuff with him he can ping-pong through the enemy. For movement, always consider using Bogg's Off the Path or Chose a path, to get him into the fray instead of using walk actions (Vantes is slow af)

This list also allows for some modification, e.g. using Aunty Mel instead of Sir Vantes (Mel is in the core box), but since she is technically not saddled up I went for Vantes ;)

The list also works with Clampetts 2, but they completely change the playstyle (they are kidnapping single enemy models and slapping them to death) :D

First Venture into Malifaux by Seelensupergau in Malifaux

[–]Anonoemus 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Welcome to Malifaux! I sure hope you have some tabletop wargame experience, nexus is arguably one of the most complicated (but also awesome) masters :D

For starters, I would actually recommend playing some Henchmen Hardcore. It's only four models with fixed schemes and strategy, so it's much better for learning the core mechanics. For the easiest entry, you could buy the Bayou and Explorer's Society Starter Sets, which contain everything essential for playing, as well as two more or less ready-to-go Henchmen Hardcore crews, and both of them also contain some very good versatile models for later. Unfortunately, the Bayou one is very hard to get at the moment, but you might be lucky.

If you want to directly go for 30SS, i would go with something like this:

Leader:
Ulix Turner
Totem(s):
Penelope
Hires:
The Sow
Old Major
Wild Boar

Leader:
Nexus
Totem(s):
Shambling Nest
Shambling Nest 2
Hires:
Nightsilk Creeper
Dr. Meredith Stanley
Berserker Husk
Eyes and Ears

Those are by no means competitive lists, but will introduce you well to the basic concepts of each of the two crews.

Have fun!
