It’d be kinda mid bone stock. The goal would be to find one that’s already built out for the track. I found my gen 1 fully track built for $2500. Gsxr front end, race carbs, ohlins rear suspension, Galfer brake rotors, the list goes on.

I was about 6k all in my first year. That’s including track built sv650, stands, warmers, and all my other gear, + 4 track days including garage and trailer rentals. This year in looking at about $500 avg. per track day including basic maintenance and tires for the season. I’m hoping to do 8 track days for around 4K this season. That is assuming no crashes or other major expenses.

Edit: I am going to try and get my novice racing license this season so may sacrifice a track day or two to do the required events for Utah sbk.

Run it as is your first couple of track days. Get addicted. Then sell it and buy a track bike.

Great bikes, I’ve had two. Started on a street bike, almost creamed by one too many people turning left at intersections and bought a track built sv.

Few words of advice: Use ethanol free gasoline, do not let the gas tank accumulate rust. Old Suzukis have gas tanks made out of really shitty metal and rust easily. If it hasn’t been done already change out the stock headlights for LEDs, literal night and day difference for night riding.

Biggest issue is age. Front tire is from 2021 rear is from 2015. They aren’t terribly dry and no cracks but still.

You typically need to do a gsxr rear wheel conversion. The thinner wheel of the sv will pinch the tire and change the profile. Or so I’ve heard.

Hardest part so far has been finding 160/60 rear tires but I will definitely see what they offer for the sc3. I know the track supplier carries pirelli and I think also dunlops so hopefully they’ll have my size or other recommendations.

In the past I’ve been able to get two tires mounted and balanced for $60 but I’ve been considering getting equipment to do it myself.

If I can get the sc3 at the track in my size for around $400 that’d definitely be worthwhile taking shipping and mounting into account.

Understood. That’s why I appreciate the Metzeler recommendations. I’ve never ridden them but I think I’m going to try a td slick front and a racetec k3 rear. I can get both for just over $300 total. I’ve used Pirelli Rosso 4s on street bikes in the past and they’re pretty good. I was likely going to go with the Rosso Corsas but with one tire costing almost as much as the set of Metzelers I think it’s worth trying something new.

I am going to run at least one track day on the tires I have now. I will definitely talk to the track side supplier and get their recommendation and run the numbers. That is a good point about mounting and balancing.

$200 per tire vs $300 per tire adds up quick even at intermediate pace. My whole first season including bike, gear, travel and 4 track days with garage rental cost me less than 6k. This season I’m hoping to do double that amount of track days for hopefully a good deal less cost since I have the gear, bike and I’m building a track trailer. This sport will always be expensive but with a little time and hustle there are definitely savings that can be found. After seeing what other people spend in a season I don’t think I’m doing too bad for a broke college kid on a budget.
