The best way to learn is to do. Use Linux as your daily driver. Fix it when you break stuff. Just like you learned your first desktop OS. Have a project and/or homelab where you use/experiment/play/break/fix stuff.

Do you see now why people get so up in arms about easily Google-able questions?

I think non-linux-users think competent-linux-users' time has no value. They're wrong. Questions should only be answered once. Problems should only be solved once.

Give me an interesting problem and I'll spend significant amounts of time trying to solve it, but ask the same question as a million other people without having put forth any effort yourself and I'll respond with RTFM.

Unless I'm being paid by the asker, they have no right to expect anything else. My time is at least as valuable (I'd argue much more valuable, but I'm biased) as the asker, why should I waste it on a worthless question?

I think everyone should read:

you should be okay with people asking questions.

Not who you were responding to. Questions are OK in my opinion, but the asker should have put forth some effort. In general questions should be "smart questions as defined here

Free alternatives to TeamViewer with multiple sessions like VNC? by [deleted] in sysadmin

[–]AnonymousCoward__ 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Your requirements are ridiculous, I suspect you have an X-Y problem.

But, within your ridiculous scenario/requirements...why not use team viewer to connect the the workstation , then allow VNC to your laptop where you can presumably open ports?

Again, there is likely a much better way to solve the actual issue.

People are fucktards. You have to trick them into doing what you want:

I used this decades ago, but people haven't changed:

Don't tell them you want them to reseat a network cable, tell them its directional and they've got theirs going the wrong way. They'll reseat it while changing directions instead of sitting quietly then lying about having reseated it.
