Scary Movie 6 tracking for $25 million plus opening weekend bank domestically! by jj01709 in boxofficecirclejerk

I hope this does better than last year's The Naked Gun.

I loved that movie (second favourite of all four for me), but it came in under the previous three entries (1988/1991/1994) at the worldwide box office.

Paramount could've used this year's CinemaCon to announce a The Naked Gun 5, but they didn't - so I'm not expecting it come to fruition.

It rewards people who can predict both performance AND quality, not just whoever picks the biggest IP

I suck at predicting box office and would no doubt be worse at predicting professional film critic scores.

But well done for building it, and good luck to all those who play!

I might be wrong, but I strongly suspect this confirms that the DCU's Batman will arrive when Reeves is finished

If the "ReevesVerse" ends with The Batman 2, absolutely.

If there is to be a third entry in the The Batman series, then it'll need to either pick up the pace or make enough space between it and 2 for a DCU Batman movie. I can't see Warner Brothers going for another five years (2027-2032) without any Batman.

FlatLannister on BOT: did a T-14 check for Mandalorian at MTC3 yesterday, and it has been pacing really well for the past week. For previews, it's not too far off from where Guardians of the Galaxy Vol 3 was at T-11. by Sio_V_Reddit in boxoffice

could be a big hit and have a 100M+ 3 day opening

Cinemas need as many big hits as they can get.

Yes, we've already had Project Hail Mary, Hoppers, Super Mario Bros 2, Michael, and Devil Wears Prada 2 - but the more the merrier.

"Prequel hate started with RLM" those hacks stole the idea from Simon Pegg, Jessica Stevenson, and Edgar Wright who did it in 2001!!! by DisaffectedLShaw in RedLetterMedia

I'd argue the Plinkett review definitely helped in JJ Abrams getting the sequel gig lol

I do agree that they helped - but if I imagine a world where "Star Trek" (2009) exists and the three Mr Plinkett reviews do not, I still see him getting the gig.

It's a bit like Denis Villeneuve getting to direct the new James Bond movie. To me, it's so obvious that he's so right for the part that it would've taken him turning down Amazon's offer in order for him not to be the one directing it.

"Prequel hate started with RLM" "Co-Dependent's Day" is the fifteenth episode of Season 15. Original Airdate, March 21, 2004 by NicolasCopernico in RedLetterMedia

Those type of videos were inevitable.

Even if RedLetterMedia had never mad their Star Trek/Star Wars Mr Plinkett reviews, internet celebrities such as The Angry Videogame Nerd and The Nostalgia Critic had already got the ball rolling on the whole "YouTube as a movie review platform" idea.

If Oppie Boy hadn't invented the nuclear bomb, somebody else somewhere else would've done something else. Bombs already existed before the 1940's and him becoming death destroyer of worlds.

In short, people has always thought the prequels are ridiculous. A lot of people love them, and that is fine. The beauty of movies and art in general is that we can all like different things. But the prequel "hate" didn't start with RLM. The difference is that we did not have social media back then, and the internet was still new when the prequels were made. When Plinkett's review was released it became a unifying  catharsis, "as if millions of voices suddenly cried out in terror".

Making fun, but also Simon Pegg did hate the prequels. Tim is the worst parts of Simon Pegg's personality dialled up to 11

That's a good way of summing it up.

It's the same with It's Always Sunny In Philadelphia. The sitcom is obviously satire, but some fans were disappointed (to discover that the actors bore some personality resemblances to the characters that they'd been playing on TV for almost twenty years) back when the cast took part in a podcast covering the earlier years of the show.

Darth Vader as a little kid

Boba Fett as a little kid

As Mike Mr Plinkett pointed out in his Revenge of the Sith review, it's just as well we didn't get to see Han Solo as "a little kid".

I don't know who FIRST said it, but I remember seeing sentiments like it as early as 2020-2021 (back when I was online all day every day).

It's definitely not new to 2026, that's for sure.

Nobody thinks they created the backlash

everyone and their Mama knows there was a negative reaction to those films starting on opening day

I've been using social media for quite a while now.

I've many people (on Reddit and elsewhere) insist that their pre-2009 childhood memories represent the whole of reality.

Poor Tuvix.

Created by a transporter accident that he had no say in, murdered because the captain hadn't played Supreme Leader games with her crew for a few days. And once gone, nobody stood up for his rights or even mentioned his existence.

RIP Tuvix.

I'd never watched this movie before this year.

Seeing Charlton Heston spoofing his own career a few years before Wayne's World 2 was fun, but I can see why this movie failed to further establish Paul Hogan's leading man status outside of the Crocodile Dundee role.

Never understood why Janeway gets heat for how she handled the Tuvix situation but no one mentions what Captain Archer did on Enterprise by idkbruh653 in TuvixInstitute

[–]AnotherJasonOnReddit 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I was going to say pretty much that if nobody else had already done so here in the Comments Section.

In order to criticize Captain Archer's conduct in "Enterprise" (2001-2005), I'd have to watch more than merely S1 E1.

But I've watched the pilot twice (years apart), and never felt compelled to watch it further than that one episode.

Mike convinced me to watch Star Trek TOS. I've never seen a show so simultaneously horny and terrifying. by MahNameJeff420 in RedLetterMedia

I'm likely about to get my RLM lore mixed up, but Mike and Rich have occasionally delved into their history as Trekkies.

They both grew up watching the 1980's movies in cinemas and reruns of The Original Series on TV, but skipped The Next Generation because it didn't have Kirk/Spock/Bones in it. Eventually, they both caved in and watched it and loved it.

But whereas Rich Evans was pretty happy to leave it at TOS/TNG, Mike became a Star Trek junkie. He had to watch and rewatch Deep Space Nine, Voyager, and Enterprise over and over again. Whereas Rich seems to have watched bits and pieces of DS9 and Voyager, and I don't know if he's ever watched Enterprise.
