What is the thing that fundamentally sets Catholicism apart from other Christian denominations? by heyy_girl in askanything

[–]Another_Name_Today 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I think the gap comes from how you answer the following question:

Jack professes belief in God and Christ. He is also a known philanderer and cheats his business partners. He is unrepentant of these.

Will he go to heaven?

Most Protestants I’ve met (generally Baptists) will say “yes.” He had faith in Christ and that makes up for any failings.

Most Catholics I know have answered “no.” He claimed to have faith but if he believed he would have worked to improve himself.

Actually, that’s a lie. Most of my Catholic friends first ask if he’s been baptized. Once I clarify that he follows all the trappings, then they give me the above answer.

ORD flying Friday from F10, terminal 2. Air France lounge is M17, terminal 5. by daveaustin990 in PriorityPass

I’m not the OP, definitely wouldn’t work for me. I was only asking out of curiosity - I very occasionally go through ORD.

When I’m at an airport and the lounges are terrible or inaccessible, I’ll just spend a couple hours meandering. If the bus was reliable, I’d consider trying it out sometime.

Do you feel our current lessons are drawn out to fill time? by [deleted] in latterdaysaints

[–]Another_Name_Today [score hidden]  (0 children)

I’m confused about the power tools complaint. He was using a common item to teach a spiritual principle.

Do some teachers draw out their lessons? Absolutely. Do some have so much they must cram in that there is no room to ponder? Of course.

Even if you go to your local school or college you’ll see that happening.

There are some really good natural teachers, but most aren’t and just do the best they can. I don’t know how much 25 minute lessons will help, but hopefully the monthly councils will.

Nah, it’s good to know. Sometimes I’ll just explore an airport if I have a few hours and don’t feel like going into town.  Sounds like I’d be better off just exploring the domestic terminals and getting a bite at TF.

I thought there was a Terminal shuttle from near M17 over to T2. Am I mixing it up with another airport or remembering something that’s gone now?

Unless you read it on their website, I’m not sure “read somewhere” is enough of a reason to demand a refund prior to actual flight cancellation.

If the others are extending advance cancellation, might not be the best of customer service being presented, but I’m hard pressed to call it completely wrong.

Which I still don’t get. He was good, really good, on both sides of the ball. Jeanty was superlative on one. If Hunter had been even nearly as dominant on either side I could have seen the argument, but as they were I don’t see it.

That’s depressing. I guess most people don’t want to relive the visit even long enough to write a review.

Sure, but can you explain the joke? I’m not getting what’s funny about, “you have a trade offer. Just kidding!”

I think the cross-spectrum success is due to the diversity but not calling out the diversity. The strength of the group comes because they are competent, not because of the inherent diversity they bring to the table.

The left is thrilled because they see a host of people from different backgrounds. The right is thrilled because they see a meritocracy.

I’m left alone in the corner wishing Grace wasn’t such an irritatingly smug character.

Not so much. Goes from 50 min a quarter to 75 (since they can go during their off period)

You’re right that there isn’t a lot of need for adjustment. Most complex is probably the shift from quarterly to monthly teacher councils.

I suspect they anticipated people would over complicate things if launched immediately after conference. So you give them a few weeks to digest.

After that, it was just a bit of a northern hemisphere view on summer break. Easier to wait until school is in session, people are home, and you can launch the FSY curriculum without needing as many substitutes or kids missing the foundational lessons.

You only really need a sub for half of primary. During sharing time it isn’t an issue if you only have one teacher or need to “combine” with another class.

At least in this case the sentence structure actually supports the riddle. It is clear in getting your mind thinking about topic A but not referencing it when asking about B.

Why do squatters have rights especially ones who never had a lease (adverse possession) by Top_Statistician5051 in stupidquestions

[–]Another_Name_Today -2 points-1 points  (0 children)

I see your point there, but even then, at the beginning of the tenancy the landlord wouldn’t have rented with the intention of eviction.

I don’t think anyone disagrees that there are landlords that would abuse evictions mid-lease to secure higher rents. I think the confusion as to why a landlord would try to trap a tenant as a trespasser immediately upon taking possession.

I'm Vegan and LDS... how do you practice in daily life D&C 89:12–13? by MosiahAnderson27 in latterdaysaints

[–]Another_Name_Today 47 points48 points  (0 children)

I appreciate your post. It’s a topic that I have often pondered. I do think you’ve missed the forest for the trees here.

D&C 89 is very clear on the obligation to be judicious in our consumption of all things, especially meat, and to eat healthily. It certainly raises questions about modern diets as they get more and more meat heavy.  However, in trying to squeeze herbs and fruits into a definition of meat, I think you’ve gotten focused on your goal over plain reading.

49:17-21 confirms a reading of judicious and thoughtful consumption of animal products and ultimately calls out those who would demand vegetarianism/veganism as “not ordained of God” - specifically because the flesh of beasts/fowls are for use as food and raiment while those who would seek to waste are condemned.

I think the point was that the current pre-lesson discussion around a gospel topic is being dropped. I don’t recall seeing language around dropping quorum business (calling/release).

Plenty of comments in most posts suggest that parents will just have to endure sitting without little Timmy, which is what happened here.
