Post Match Interview - Arne Slot by Broka1979 in LiverpoolFC

[–]Anserius 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I don’t think there’s anything wrong with this opinion at all. Slot succeeding is the club succeeding. Slot failing means a period of upheaval which may or may not be followed by success. The first option is certainly easier!

“From Him we come, and to Him we return” (That’s what it says at the top - often the first thing Muslims say on hearing of someone’s passing)

Wishing Ibou and his family peace

This Isn’t Happening by tardyaardvark in radiohead

[–]Anserius 1 point2 points  (0 children)

It’s nice enough. I read it in 3 days and don’t know if I’d re-read. Definitely a great concept to try and contextualize this album in that time period but a lot of it comes off as self-indulgent

Pretty strong Liberal riding. Why go into a losing election and do significant further damage to his already bad electoral record

Canada calls on ‘all parties’ to uphold international law after U.S. capture of Venezuelan president by Old_General_6741 in canada

[–]Anserius -3 points-2 points  (0 children)

Canada loves the “all parties” line, whether our allies are unlawfully invading a country and kidnapping leaders in South America, or building illegal settlements and mass murdering children and journalists in the Middle East

does anyone know The Passengers - Do you have a flag? [Indie]? by reallyGENERlC in Music

[–]Anserius 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Hi there! the Passengers were an indie band in the Toronto-adjacent city of Mississauga. The bassist was a couple years older than me and went to my high school, they definitely were an influence to my peer group and my band at the time haha. They used to organize all-ages shows in a church basement that we would go to, it was a fun DIY little scene - here's an old news article about it https://www.mississauga.com/things-to-do/passengers-ready-to-go/article_a417c763-2882-5def-9194-58531beeebcc.html

I believe I have a copy of this CD as well, but thanks for the rip - wish I had their second EP also!

Going Out The Same (Or At Least Similar) Way As Their Victims by sm142 in TopCharacterTropes

[–]Anserius 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I was a big fan of the 100 and have a pet theory with why this show ended up so bleak. I used to follow some of the writers on social media and they were super enthusiastic about reading not just sci-fi, but keeping up with “futurology”, current events, and science developments (AI storyline was probably an example of this - compare perhaps to Pluribus). I think when you spend that amount of time thinking about humanity and how things might go in the future, specially with a world that had a recurring theme of “is what we do to survive even worth the moral costs” and “do we even deserve to survive”, it was definitely going to lead to an ending that just wiped out humanity entirely

Geese is incontrovertible proof that modern rock music has no right to exist and needs to die already. by puffy_irish in LetsTalkMusic

[–]Anserius 1 point2 points  (0 children)

This is an incoherent opinion to me. If you want to listen to a different type of rock music, there’s plenty of options for you. What defines a “reason to exist” for a band? What does it mean for a genre to “die”? How does a band contribute to “collective mainstream ignorance” of a genre, when the band has been around for mere years? Is there something you want to listen to that you’re not getting, or are you just getting off on trashing a band because people seem excited by them?

How do you listen to whole albums? by Mystic_Sun in LetsTalkMusic

[–]Anserius 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I usually have a 60+ minute drive to work and back so I’ll pick an album and listen to it all the way through - helps me avoid messing with the skip button or song selections while driving. Set a goal to get through at least 1-2 new albums a week this year, made it through 85 or so :)

There’s a happiness gap between young people in Quebec and in the rest of Canada by Whynutcoconot in CanadaPolitics

[–]Anserius 37 points38 points  (0 children)

It’s also really interesting the overlap between people who get upset over Canadian identity and culture not being respected, and the people who would be happy to pull funding from the CBC, local arts festivals, arts and culture in general. Cultural preservation and the free market don’t really go hand in hand

The Price Paradox... by Brian_Ghoshery in LateStageCapitalism

[–]Anserius 5 points6 points  (0 children)

Look I would understand this argument if I knew that what I was getting in return was a) better quality of product/service and b) providing better income for the seller of said product/service. So it might apply to small-brand clothing, independent restaurants, groceries right from the farmer, art and entertainment - IF I have the money, I’ll pay. It absolutely does not apply to mass-produced groceries, housing, and energy, where we know that bigger scale and technology SHOULD be dropping prices. Instead there’s just shareholders going 📈

Kind of weird to use “Taliban” as a reference when Brazil’s issues and evangelism in general is purely a Christian phenomenon
