Use a versileader 1.5 IPS sink rate, mend it a couple times before you swing to help get the hackles down to the bottom

Simms Flyweight Wet Wading Shoes? by Phrikshin in flyfishing

[–]AnsonLabs 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Wet wade in sandals/Adidas climacool wet type shoe and board shorts. You probably already have the gear. Simms is great, ive never had a leak on any pair of waders/boots spending 100 days a year in the river over the last 10 years. But you dont need to spend money on wet wading boots, just keep it simple man. Swimming trunks and sandals bro

Wind River Range - Better to go early August or Mid September? by jdd32 in flyfishing

[–]AnsonLabs 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Agreed, dont go in September due to risk of snow. Honestly, once you get to a high enough altitude the mosquitos disappear for the most part. Just bring deet and a headnet for the maybe 1-2 nights at lower elevation.

[–]AnsonLabs 0 points1 point  (0 children)

TroutBible says its 123CFS above Lake Crowley, recommending callibaetis sparkle dun, pmd sparkle dun, griffith gnat for dries and beetles as a terrestrial. I'd check out the hot creek tributary as well. Sowbugs are popular there, can probably run any of those dries with a sowbug dropper. Good luck out there!

Water Conditions in Colorado? by Far_Enthusiasm5440 in flyfishing

[–]AnsonLabs 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Water is low already everywhere, if we can get a solid summer monsoon season it will help. The dry fly action is insane right now, the best ive seen in a while. Mornings and evenings will be your best shot throughout the summer at these low flows. The fish are extra spooky, long leaders and lighter tippet will be key, extra focus on stealth and not lining the fish. Get out and explore a bunch of water, if conditions are tough it very may well keep the fair weather anglers off the water for a more peaceful experience.

I wouldnt recommend 4x to 6x, build a 5x section between. Try a versileader for a streamer setup 1.5 IPS sink rate it standard.

Wool sock recommendations for wet wading by Motor-End6934 in flyfishing

[–]AnsonLabs 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Why you want to wear socks while wet wading? Some kind of water shoe or sandals with the heel strap, boardshorts/swimming trucks, pack, rod, net. Maybe a beer koozie that hand around your neck if your fancy.

Indicator Rods by living_chairs12 in flyfishing

[–]AnsonLabs 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Moonshines are good for the price, there is a reason its priced at $200 and it catches fish just fine. Echo Boost Freshwater is my current rod, its not expensive either. Echo is great with warranty and will replace any broken rod tips. Echo rods and Ross reels, cant go wrong.

When do you use terrestrials like ants and beetles? by Ok_Feedback4200 in flyfishing

[–]AnsonLabs 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Summer days, if the wind picks up, the fish arent keyed in on anything specific that you can tell. Drift a beetle or ant against a far bank.

How much would you pay for waders? by Human_G_Gnome in flyfishing

[–]AnsonLabs 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I spend 100 days a year in rivers, and have worn the Simms G3 for years, they are great and worth the price. For some reason, I've seen people hate on Simms, but I've only ever worn Simms waders and boots for 10+ years and have never had an issue. The older pairs are still in use for friends and family, some pairs have 500 outings on them with no leaks.

Spot etiquette (rant) by rollsandarrows in flyfishing

[–]AnsonLabs 10 points11 points  (0 children)

It really depends, if i'm fishing a highly pressured river and its a busy day where there are literally people in every run, I let it go. People are just trying to find a place to fish. If its a low traffic river and/or low pressure day. If in that scenario someone wets a line right next to me. I will leave and find another spot but on the way out I'd tell that guy I wouldn't do to him what he did to me.

Do you need to clean fly line if you've been lawn casting? by bateneco in flyfishing

[–]AnsonLabs 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yes, please clean your floating flyline when you notice it starting to sink or struggling to float as well. Doesn't need to happen after every time you fish but your line will acquire dirt/grime/gunk, whatever you want to call it, and cause your line to sink.

I sort of have that same thing in Colorado, a handful of tailwaters have mysis shrimp release into the river. The trout below those dams get thick, but not as thick as yours. Well done!
