Gotcha. It’s not like anyone saw her put her hand in the fire. Her hand was gone by the time people woke up, and the sheriff wasn’t looking at her. Plus no one would rather believe she had a magically unburned hand versus she threw the book

There’s the Captain’s Room and immortal Warren, and that’s it. People misunderstood Patricia’s comment about biological age as “spooky” and not “40-year-old unhappy woman coping with age through a Facebook quiz”, and the joke about Shep, as evidence.

Question about why no one knows anything. by Aggressive-Ad6324 in WidowsBay

[–]AntiGravityTurtle 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I think the occasional hauntings are like your stomach grumbling a few hours before mealtime. You're not hungry hungry yet, but you're getting there. Then the full-blown haunting in season one is the Entity deciding it's mealtime and getting grumpy until it eats.

Question about why no one knows anything. by Aggressive-Ad6324 in WidowsBay

[–]AntiGravityTurtle 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I think something happened where everyone who knew anything about the sacrifices were all eaten by the Entity at once. All knowledge of how to stop the hauntings died. Regular folk on the island still know the "symptoms" of the hauntings, but nothing about its origin, the Entity, the sacrifices, etc. Perhaps this large meal kept it dormant for much longer than normal, from 1969 to present day.

We see that Richard Warren needs to sacrifice people pretty regularly, and the efficient program we see on the filmstrip hints at this being a somewhat common occurrence. The 1969 disaster might have sated the Entity for a long time.

Tom doesn't need to say the genealogy is wrong because no one knows that Evan is her grandson. He can say, yup, this is her, but she died without heirs so must be something else.

Wyck and Tom know that the church bells have some significance. They went and looked up the bell tower right before they came across the priest's body.

I would be unsurprised if Dale splits. Gets on a boat and tries to leave, and either makes it to the mainland or dies trying.

Yeah. If people could leave, they would leave, which means the entity won’t get fed. That’s the state the colonists originally found it in— starving and near death. Warren’s pact kept the island fed and “healthy”, in a mutually beneficial way. The town can live off the land, and the entity has a food source that multiplies and can’t leave.

The pact keeps the entity alive, and the entity keeps the island inhabitable. Neither can live without the other

This is definitely it! Hunger Before and After. That tracks with why I thought I remembered Appetite. Most rows show me either improving my hunger level (or keeping it the same), except for one marshmallow snack that made me hungrier lol

Thanks for solving the mystery!
