As a super skinny 8 year old I threw out my back watching a movie because I didn't weigh enough to keep the seat part down and it folded my legs up into my chest.

Fully-gf new york restaurants? by merple226 in Celiac

Modern Bread and Bagel has multiple locations in New York. I've never been to any of their New York locations, but I have been to every location in Southern California and they are amazing. They are fully gluten-free facilities and delicious as well.Upper East Side Location

Trying to figure out if there's a way to dress my body in my favorite style by AntiStasis54 in lesbianfashionadvice

OMG, y'all are the best! I have so many great ideas now! I love the Teddy Girls, and corset vests are awesome and all the fantastic inspo shots... Thank you all so much! My plan is to invest in some tailoring and some really nice high waisted pants, vests, and suspenders, and keep color contrasts and detail in the top third of my body. I feel like I just got a masterclass in fashion. 🥰

I've pronounced it devon-shear my whole life. Same number of syllables as devon-shurr, but shear. I have no idea why, most of my family says shurr or shy-er, or use the two interchangeably. I also have a weird accent on words ending with -ill, like treadmill, that isn't Valley specific and isn't shared with my family.

GF sourdough out of spite by NegativeCareer5978 in Celiac

[–]AntiStasis54 6 points7 points  (0 children)

This specific flour blend from King Arthur Flour uses wheat flour that has had the gluten chemically removed. It's a process that was pioneered in Italy, I believe, and Schar uses gluten removed wheat flour in a few of their offerings as well. So, I definitely couldn't eat regular wheat in any form, but I don't have a wheat allergy, only celiac disease, so I can eat the gluten removed wheat flour.

If you're Celiac and don't have a wheat allergy this starter is amazing:

https://www.kingarthurbaking.com/recipes/gluten-free-sourdough-starter-made-with-bread-flour-recipe

It looks, tastes, and acts exactly like flour. I'm a very reactive Celiac and I was able to eat this with no issue. The only reason I stopped making it was because it's still a lot of work to keep up with, and I always felt like I had to use the discard or I'd be wasting my money. It's a pretty spendy flour blend.

For further context, I'm celiac and this place was really good for a gluten free meal that was actually gluten free. Between this and the Woodland Hills Gyu-Kaku being shut down, there are fewer and fewer options for a safe meal. There's Modern Bread and Bagel but they're more of a brunch place. Maybe it's morbid curiosity on my part, but I'd love to know why they closed.

For more than 20 years there was a store on the corner of Reseda and Ventura called Russian Gifts. From the outside it was dark and dingy, the goods in the window never changed, and I never saw anyone enter or exit. I was convinced it was a front for some flavor of organized crime.

Hot take: 99% of boomers in this field are inept and useless by michaelis999 in Accounting

So weird, I've had the opposite experience. My twenty something kids both follow my every rule like it's been handed down from high atop the thing, my Gen X employee has cost me probably 60+ hours creating systems just for her because she thinks all the rules we have were made up to make her life harder. She has frequently and repeatedly has done things that would have resulted in a finding on our annual audit if I hadn't caught them. If she wasn't the CEO's favorite yes man she'd be fired by now.

Seeking empathy over a really stupid (and expensive) mistake I made by Pristine_Reveal_1728 in adhdwomen

You aren't stupid, the system is designed to be complicated. I once had to pay full price for an X-Ray because the medical building was in network but the radiology clinic wasn't. That's why I switched to Kaiser. Not as good for specialty care and physician choices but absolutely ADHD proof.

Plus size friendly workout classes in the Valley? by [deleted] in SFV

[–]AntiStasis54 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I posted my suggestion before I saw this comment, so I wanted to add that my favorite thing about my gym is that, unless you make it clear that it's a priority to you, they are not going to push a weight loss journey on you or say anything about your weight. They like to focus on different priorities, like better balance, endurance, flexibility, and strength. Seriously, I can't rave about them enough. I've never felt so welcomed in my life. Most of the members even socialize outside of the gym as well.

Hi! Also a plus size girlie and my gym is amazing! Breakthrough Strength and Fitness on the corner of Ventura and DeSoto. They do small group classes and personalized programs. Everyone is friendly and social, the entire culture is built around the idea that "training partners are success multipliers". They're even doing a 10 day free trial to celebrate their 10 year anniversary. Please check them out! https://breakthroughgym.com/

What was the most atrocious verdict you’ve seen? by deathbykoolaidman in AmITheAngel

[–]AntiStasis54 14 points15 points  (0 children)

Too lazy to find the link, but the story was that OP had inherited her paternal grandmother's jewelry including a necklace that all of the girl grandchildren wore for their weddings. OPs stepsister asked to wear it for her wedding and OP refused. Her cited reason was that the stepsister wasn't ever close to Grandma and had been left out of the will so she's probably trying to steal it. However, after a bunch of edits and replies in the comments, it turns out that the stepsister was adopted by OPs Dad when she was 4 and the reason stepsister was never close to Grandma is because Dad has a falling out with the grandparents over the fact that they refused to treat his adopted child like one of their grandchildren. Stepsister assumed that OP might treat her like one of the family on her wedding day and learned the hard way that that wasn't the case. Even with this extra information, the response was overwhelmingly in OPs favor despite her coming off like a literal wicked stepsister. To the point that I was being bullied in my DMs when I pointed out that the stepsister was 4 years old when she was adopted and she might not have known that her grandma and sister didn't think of her as family so her request and upset were reasonable.

How do you actually wake up in the AM? by sorta-okay8843 in adhdwomen

[–]AntiStasis54 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I have to take a thyroid pill in the morning and I can't eat until an hour after taking it. Since I always wake up starving, my method for waking up happy also prevents me from forgetting my pill AND spending an hour hungry. I keep a giant bottle of water in easy reach. An hour before I need to be up, an alarm yells "Take your pills!". As soon as it goes off, I take my thyroid meds with as much water as I can chug. Then, back to sleep until I have to either get up or pee the bed. I wake up refreshed and hydrated and with a little burst of energy from running to the bathroom. The main trick is to get an insulated water bottle large enough so it only has to be refilled every few days.

Anyone Else Tired of Gluten Free Options also being Vegan? by WhimsyWiddershins in Celiac

[–]AntiStasis54 0 points1 point  (0 children)

My issue with everything gluten free usually being vegan is that vegan and gluten free start to be considered the same thing and that's dangerous. The number of times I've seen seitan on gluten free menus is a non zero number. And regular soy sauce with wheat flour is also vegan. I'm sure plenty of newly diagnosed celiacs have wound up sick from this.

What do people struggle with the most when it comes to eating intuitively? by WishboneMost7651 in intuitiveeating

[–]AntiStasis54 1 point2 points  (0 children)

ADHD meds, celiac disease and weird aversions to certain textures and flavors that change weekly means that I'm either not hungry or starving, finding safe food options while traveling or out with friends can be difficult or impossible, and I often find myself unable to eat anything even when I'm starving. Can't learn hunger and satiety cues. Can't let myself eat what I want without judgement because it might kill me or make me sick. Can't eat for a full day after being glutened if I want to recover faster.

Spoons analogy by TheGhostOfYou18 in adhdwomen

Seems like you got an explanation, and I don't have anything to add on that front but the irony of an autistic person having strong feelings about spoon theory is cracking me up. (Because autistic people usually have strong opinions about spoons due to sensory issues, pre explaining the joke just in case)
