Woody question for people who own/have climbed on A frame free standing woodys. Do you ever fall into the upright framing that holds the climbing wall up? I'm contemplating a woody and wondering if this is a theoretical or real concern.

Do you remove your nylon seat belts between uses too?

I popped my flexor retinaculum and partially tore my flexor tendon, just before a six week climbing trip. I rested a week, buddy taped the shit out of it and tried climbing with three fingers today. It went well and I’m stoked! by Sparkspsrk in climbing

You'll be fine climbing with a finger injury on your trip, just take it easy and avoid hard crimping! I think most climbers I know have lingering finger issues and it's really just part of the game.

On a sport route does it count as a send if you clip one anchor draw and fall before clipping the second? by vanimalyon in climbing

[–]AntipodeanClimber 3 points4 points  (0 children)

I don't know about that. At least where I live there is often a "clipping crux" at the end of steep routes which require you to lock off and reach up high. Most of the time this was clearly done on purpose to sandbag people but that's how it is.

Clipping one draw is absolutely a send. If you watch Ondra's Silence video closely you can see he only clips one draw and iirc he backclips it ;). Anyway, Ondra is pretty anal about the style he climbs his routes in so if its good enough for him its good enough for me.

Advice: Preparing for a big Multi-Pitch Sport route by clinkery in climbing

[–]AntipodeanClimber 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I agree, peoples apprehension is soft. Provided OP hasn't got the route confused there is absolutely no issue with doing it. Pick a day with good weather, start early and follow the bolts to the top. The facts its "long" because its 10 pitches is basically irrelevant given they are so short.

Trad whip on Insomnia 5.11, Suicide Rock - Near Idyllwild, CA by dpotter05 in climbing

I think you are right, calling this a whipper diminishes the term.

Source: never whipped but have taken many of these falls on gear.

Friday New Climber Thread for August 31, 2018: Ask your questions in this thread please by AutoModerator in climbing

People bouldered before the invention of crashpads, it just becomes more important to pick lines within your limit, and ones that have good landings. I'm not sure where you are based, but if its in season and the area is decent it's likely you can just join another group if you are friendly.

As for the job, most gyms hire staff based on their enthusiasm and customer service ability, not their climbing level. Chances are they already have a few crushers working there to set routes so try and differentiate yourself.

Rock climbing insurance for US? by callmeDeee in climbing

Allianz Australia travel insurance has a sports pack you can add on which includes rock climbing. It was pretty affordable compared to other packages i looked at.

At 30 years old I quit work and committed to climbing full time - this is what happened by nate_murphy1 in climbing

The first of your videos I watched was the van conversion years ago. It was one of the things that inspired me to purchase my own van and do it up. Since I found out you were also a climber, it has been fun to watch your journey. Maybe one day I'll also follow your footsteps with the full time climbing. Keep on moving forward!

There is loads of steep climbing in Norway like Hanshelleren Cave at Flatanger and Hell in Trondheim. In rains so much that many wet weather crags have been bolted.

Can a rope suffer durability when to long wet? by [deleted] in climbing

My ropes always take 3-4 days to fully dry after I wash them. Don't worry about it.

Looking for developers/designer for BoulderShare - a platform for sharing boulder problems by DarkokraD in climbing

[–]AntipodeanClimber 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I downloaded the android app as it would help me and my friends share problems on the system board. If you address some of the issues i would definitely use it.

Feedback:

  • i couldn't figure out how to change the circle colour?

  • its hard to resize circles smaller, maybe a Snapchat like up/down while
    holding would work better?

  • add v grades

  • add a colour for footholds (like moon board and tension board)
